This post contains spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 3.
But what about Alexander?
Sure, the third season of Star Trek: Picard gave Star Trek fans everything that we wanted to see, from the Enterprise-d crew reunited on a restored version of that beloved ship to a reconciliation between Jean-Luc Picard and Ro Laren. But for all the good done in the series, Picard‘s third season never answered the big question on the mind of every Trekkie: what about Alexander, the son left to, and often ignored by, Worf after the death of his mother K’Ehleyr?
If Picard showrunner Terry Matalas gets a chance to make his ideal spinoff series, Star Trek: Legacy, we would finally get the answers we want, and frankly, deserve.
Matalas shared his idea during the Trek Talks 3 telethon, a charity event to raise money for the Hollywood Food Coalition. During a panel reuniting the...

This is Day 130 of the WGA strike and Day 57 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
There was fan convention energy on the picket line outside Paramount offices in Manhattan on Friday as more than 100 people marched in a Star Trek-themed rally put on by the Writers Guild of America East.
The first of two “United We Trek!” pickets in New York and Los Angeles drew a show runner and actors from spinoffs of the original Paramount-owned franchise, a Star Trek novelist, and a contingent of Trekkies marching in Starfleet garb.
On another hot morning in the late-summer heat sink of Times Square, picketers incorporated Star Trek catchphrases into chanted refrains such as “Live long and prosper/We want their offer” and “Paramount, let’s engage/We want a fair wage.”

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
When the Borg first appeared in "Q Who", an episode of the second season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," they instantly became a tantalizing and threatening antagonist throughout Trek's galaxy. At the end of the show's third season, the Borg returned and assimilated Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) into their collective in "The Best of Both Worlds", often hailed as one of the best episodes of the series. To that point, the Borg remained threatening, cold, unthinking, awesome villains.
In the 1996 feature film "Star Trek: First Contact," however, the Borg were ... altered. They became animal, malevolent, and sweaty. Additionally, they now had a queen (played by Alice Krige) who expressed emotions, and -- most frustratingly -- could be negotiated with. The idea of the Borg being fallible, emotional beings made them a lot less threatening. The non-threatening...

They’re back!
What fans have hoped for since “Star Trek: Picard” was first announced four years ago, has come true: all of the main “Next Generation” cast will be returning to the “Star Trek” universe for the final season of “Picard.” LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner will all star opposite Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard in what showrunner Terry Matalas is billing as a final send-off for the characters. Watch the announcement video below.
“I remember watching the premiere of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction,” said Terry Matalas, season three showrunner and executive producer. “So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.

“Star Trek: Picard” Season 2 will see Jean-Luc squaring off against an old adversary: the Borg Queen.
Variety has confirmed that Annie Wersching will play the Borg Queen in the second season of the Paramount Plus series. Wersching will now be the third actress to take on the role after Alice Krige played the leader of the Borg Collective in the film “Star Trek: First Contact” and in “Star Trek: Voyager” series finale. Susanna Thompson also played the character in multiple episodes of “Voyager.”
Exactly how the Borg Queen will factor into Season 2 is unknown, but chances are it will involve some manner of time travel. An early trailer for the new season, which also gave fans a tease of John de Lancie returning as Q, hinted that time would be a major theme of the next installment of the series.

I am one of those Star Trek fans that when they announced Patrick Stewart was coming back to play Jean Luc Picard I wasn’t all that fussed, we currently had Discovery which I was totally in love with and honestly I just didn’t think I really needed to tread Tng waters again.
My interest in Picard did slowly start to creep up though as the time got closer to release on Amazon Prime and little nuggets of information were falling into our laps. Voting for Emmy nominations ended on Monday, July 13, and I’m nothing if not the patron saint of the overlooked; you can still find me lamenting the longtime snubs of shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Gilmore Girls” and “The Wire.” This year there are a number of programs I love that are at risk of falling through the cracks (and in some cases not for the first time). I’m praying that some of them surprise us on July 28 when nominations are finally announced. Here are the top eight dark horse contenders I’m holding out hope for.

Exclusive: After the Hall H triumphant of 2019, Jean-Luc Picard will be back in the Comic-Con house again this year. However, due to concerns and restrictions over the coronavirus pandemic, the Sir Patrick Stewart-led CBS All Access series will be making its appearance remotely at this year’s Comic-Con@Home on July 23.

Nearly two decades after he last played USS Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart admits he was initially wary to assume the mantle of the legendary Star Trek character again. “You know, there have been other interested parties, I say that very politically, over the past 18 years who have approached me about reviving Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Picard or something like that,” he said during Deadline’s virtual Contenders Television event. “I always thanked them kindly and moved on,” he added, stressing how proud he was of the Tng tales told on both the small and big screens from 1987-2002.
However, as Star Trek: Discovery took off in 2017 and with the success of Logan that same year, Blunt Talk star Stewart found himself considering changing his mind after a meeting with executive producer Alex Kurtzman and his team. “If you can find that transformation of the man and his spirits,...

We’re heading into Emmy Awards season, and CBS is starting up its “For Your Consideration” campaign on many of its shows. Trek fans will be pleased to know that the network is pushing hard on Star Trek: Picard, which aired its smash hit debut season earlier this year. Fan and critical response was positive for the bold Next Generation sequel series, and CBS is hoping to turn that into a swathe of Emmy nominations for the cast and crew.
As well as suggesting the show for Outstanding Drama Series, the campaign to get the one and only Sir Patrick Stewart a nom for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series is leading the way. Stewart has received four Emmy nominations over his illustrious career, but never for Trek, so it would be a big deal if he could get some recognition for Picard.

Editors note: The Star Trek: Picard Podcast is a weekly series of in-depth and informed discussions with the stars and creative team behind CBS All Access’ series on the ideas, strategies and geopoetics behind the 10-episode first season of the Patrick Stewart-led sci-fi drama. The podcast is sponsored by CBS All Access and hosted by Deadline’s Senior Editor Dominic Patten.
“He has no idea where he is at, because he has no idea what the future now might hold for him,” Sir Patrick Stewart says of where the former Enterprise captain is at the end of the Star Trek: Picard Season 1 finale, which just dropped on CBS All Access. “Which is what I think makes the matter of Season 2 so exciting,” he adds on our podcast today of where things could go for Picard and his crew next.
With the 10-episode first season behind them, with thoughts for friends lost, some verse from the poet Horace, mortality and this time of coronavirus, listen here to Sir Patrick and Picard Ep Akiva Goldsman on “Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2”:
No extended recaps, but helmed by Oscar winner Goldsman, the conclusion of the two-part Picard finale finds Jean-Luc revitalized and heading into the galaxy with Jeri Ryan, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Evan Evagora at the very end. How the 94-year old Starfleet Admiral got there in the Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman penned ender is, of course, as Picard and William Shakespeare say “such stuff as dreams are made on.”
Or as Sir Patrick says on this last podcast of the first season: “I decided, if ever there was a time to live, it was right now.”
As I said, take as listen, and then please join me in thanking the whole Picard team and everyone at CBS Studios, especially, Lauri Metrose, Jennifer Verti and Bonnie Kim. Also, a massive thanks to Sir Patrick, Akiva, Alex Kurtzman, Jeri Ryan, Jonathan Frakes, Jason Zimmerman, Kristen Beyer, Michael Chabon, Jonathan Del Arco, and Hanelle Culpepper for joining us on the podcast these past 10 weeks. And a big shout out to our amazing producer David Janove for all his great work.
Thanks for listening.

“When I sat down and watched the first episode of ‘The Next Generation’ the night it premiered, my first reaction was, ‘I don’t like this,’” Michael Chabon told IndieWire. “’What is this crap with the bald actor? And a counselor on the bridge? And why do you need this first officer — like, who’s the captain here? And this android’s just a knockoff Spock.’”
That sentiment reflects some of the current fan pushback to just how radically different the novelist and screenwriter turned showrunner’s own series, “Star Trek: Picard,” has been from what viewers were used to on “The Next Generation.” Of course, by “a certain point in the second season” Chabon had come around to “Next Gen.” These things take time, and the shock of the new can be very real.

“In some ways, I think from the beginning, as soon as we started to conceive of what became of the episode called “Nepenthe,” we always viewed it as to a certain degree a kind of pause, or respite,” says Star Trek Picard showrunner Michael Chabon of the seventh episode of the CBS All Access series. “You know, we have all the elements in play by this point …the entire mystery has been laid out in all its particulars, it hasn’t been resolved yet, that’s coming,” the Pulitzer Prize winner added.

Star Trek: Picard started strongly but felt like it was dragging its heels midseason. The first episode presented a genuinely cool conundrum and believable motivation for the titular captain, but it feels like it’s taken most of the series for him to get from A to B. Fortunately, the last few episodes kicked things up a notch, with Picard finally teaming up with Soji, Data’s sort of-daughter. But this week’s episode, in particular, should generate a lot of discussion, as it not only shows Picard’s long-awaited reunion with Riker and Troi, but kills off a beloved Next Generation character, too.

The return of Jeri Ryan to the Star Trek universe in Star Trek: Picard is one that’s been welcomed by fans, especially as Ryan has taken her character Seven of Nine to new places. The actress has recently commented on loving how Seven’s developed since Star Trek: Voyager and how she fits into the new CBS All Access show. However, Ryan has also revealed how she initially panicked when she received her first script for the series.
According to the actress, her decades-long absence from the role meant she needed some support from co-star Jonathan Del Arco to get back into the character, explaining the situation as so:
“Jonny saved me. I was panicking… He saved my ass, totally, because I was panicking, totally, when I finally saw the first script. And I know, for this character specifically… I had four years of playing a character that was very specific.

As well as the variety of The Next Generation stars who have returned alongside Patrick Stewart for Star Trek: Picard, the CBS All Access show has also brought back Seven of Nine from Voyager. Last seen in 2001, Seven had never crossed over with other corners of the Trek universe before, so this was a big deal for fans. Not only that, but there was a legitimate story reason for her to feature, too, what with both her and Picard being ex-Borgs who’ve reclaimed their humanity.
Across her two appearances so far in the series, episodes 4 and 5, we got to see how different Seven – or, to use her human name, Annika – has become over the past 20 years. In a tragic place after the death of her surrogate son, Seven is fueled by a thirst for vengeance when Picard encounters her. It’s a far cry from the very regimented, controlled woman of Voyager.

We are earthbound no more! Well, by the end this third episode of “Star Trek: Picard,” anyway. But throughout much of it, especially once Santiago Cabrera’s compelling new character, Rios, was introduced, it felt like this show was finally about to achieve warp velocity. And at the end, when Jean-Luc uttered his immortal catchphrase “Engage,” it felt like “Picard” had done just that.
There were still a few bumps in the road getting there, though.
“The End Is the Beginning” opened with a flashback 14 years earlier right after the synths had destroyed the Utopia Planitia shipyard and left Mars in flames. Picard has a pivotal meeting with a shaken Starfleet Command — they apparently, fearing for their greatly depleted resources after the attack, were so committed to calling off the rescue armada they had been going to send to Romulus that they were even willing to accept Picard’s resignation instead.

If we should really consider Star Trek: Picard‘s first three episodes the series premiere, as producers told us, where do we stand after Thursday’s Episode 3? (And where is Jean-Luc heading? And with whom?)
The episode first flashes back to 14 years ago, with Raffi catching Jean-Luc on his way out of a big meeting. He pitched Starfleet higher-ups a plan to keep the Romulan evacuation going, but they called it “unfeasible.” He told them to either accept his plan or accept his resignation… and they accepted the latter, a stunned Jean-Luc tells Raffi. “I’m here with a formal invitation,” said Patrick Stewart when he appeared on “The View” on January 22. “It’s for you, Whoopi. Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of ‘Star Trek: Picard,’ and all of his colleagues, of which I am one, want to invite you into the second season.” Yes, Stewart offered Whoopi Goldberg the opportunity to reprise her iconic “Trek” role in his new CBS All Access series, which has already been picked up for season two. And thank goodness Goldberg said yes. Watch Stewart’s proposal above.

In an emotional moment on Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Patrick Stewart invited Whoopi Goldberg to appear on the second season of CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Picard,” reprising her character of Guinan from “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
Goldberg — who quickly and gladly accepted — appeared to be totally surprised by Stewart’s offer, which he said was a “formal invitation” from himself and “Picard” executive producer Alex Kurtzman.
“‘Star Trek’ was one of the great experiences from the beginning to the end,” Goldberg said with an enormous grin. “I had the best, best, best time. Best time ever!”
“Well, it was wonderful having you, and we cannot wait to have you with us again one more time,” Stewart replied.

Star Trek: Picard’s Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Del Arco: meet the new Borg, not the same as the old Borg.
“The Borg will return, but not in a way you expect.”
Those are the words of Star Trek: Picard creator/executive producer Alex Kurtzman to reporters about the reappearance on the series of one of the Federation’s most dangerous enemies, the civilization-absorbing cyborg collective known as the Borg. And while the first episode of Picard only hints at how the Borg are coming back, it’s been known ever since the unveiling of the show’s first trailer at Comic-Con last year that two former members of the collective -- Star Trek: Voyager’s Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco), from the Next Generation episode “I, Borg” -- are key characters on Picard, with the actors making their first appearances...
Star Trek: Picard’s Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Del Arco: meet the new Borg, not the same as the old Borg.

The long wait for CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Picard” is nearly over. The latest addition to the legendary sci-fi franchise will premiere on CBS All Access on January 23, and its cast and executive producers closed out the network’s Television Critics Association 2020 Winter Press Tour on Sunday with a panel to discuss the upcoming series.
It included series stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, and executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Heather Kadin, and Kirsten Beyer. While the 10 episodes of “Star Trek: Picard” are full of familiar aliens and technology, Stewart noted that the show will explore a different side of the “Star Trek” universe, starting with ditching Picard’s signature uniform.
“I only appear briefly in my uniform, which was one of the rather presumptuous conditions that I laid down,” Stewart said during the show’s TCA panel. “I...

Just over a week before Star Trek: Picard debuts on CBS All Access, the return of the legendary Next Generation captain is as much a tale for the early 21st century as it is for the late 24th century, the Television Critics’ Association learned today in Pasadena.
Our world is pretty fractured, executive producer Akiva Goldsman stated Sunday of the subtext to the Sir Patrick Stewart-led series in the deepest tradition of science fiction. “The marginalization of others, not being open hearted or seeing with empathetic eyes, this seems to be a pervasive problem we all saw as ripe for healing,” The Beautiful Mind Oscar winning scribe added. “Star Trek does its bit to heal social ills.”
“I’m not saying we are turning Picard into a political show, not at all, Sir Patrick chimed in, “we are making entertainment.” Back in the Jean-Luc Picard role for the first time...

Jean-Luc Picard is reuniting with a lot of his old friends on Star Trek: Picard… and yes, that might eventually include a certain security chief with a few ridges on his forehead.
The cast and producers of CBS All Access’ hotly anticipated Trek sequel gathered at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Sunday, and while Picard’s Enterprise shipmates Data, Riker and Troi all make appearances on the series, based on early trailers, there’s no sign of Michael Dorn as the Enterprise‘s Klingon security chief Worf. Some fans have speculated that’s because Worf looks so...

“Star Trek: Picard” will live long and prosper at least one more season. Ahead of its Jan. 23 premiere, CBS All Access has given an early Season 2 renewal to the series, Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content for the streaming service, announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
“The energy and excitement around the premiere of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ has reached a magnitude greater than all of us at CBS All Access could have hoped for,” McNamara said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that ‘Star Trek’ fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story when it premieres on Jan. 23.”

Jean-Luc Picard won’t be the only familiar face appearing on Star Trek: Picard — but one of those faces will look a lot different than you remember.
Ahead of Picard‘s Jan. 23 debut on CBS All Access, TVLine has an exclusive first look at former Borg drone Hugh, played once again by Jonathan Del Arco. But now, instead of the customary android Borg look, Hugh looks almost human, with only a few remnants of his Borg past — some stray metallic bits attached to his face — still visible.
