Pioneer geophysicist; a graduate of the University of Wales and McGill University in Montreal, Davies was a lecturer in McGill's Physics Department when he applied for a position on the Byrd Expedition of 1928-30 as a geomagnetician. In 1932-33, he led The Canadian Second Polar YearExpedition to Hudson Bay, and would remain in the forefront of scientific study, particularly in research concerning the ionosphere, electronics and radio physics, until his death.
