Synopsis:
In 1989, emergency responders received a 911 call from Maria Rossi confessing to three brutal murders. The courts found her insane – but something else found her first.
Twenty years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade), followed by film-maker Michael (Ionut Grama) who wishes to document her journey, has found that her search for answers had led her to two rogue priests who reveal that her mother is in truth possessed not by one powerful demon but four! Now, it’s up to Isabella to face pure evil and work to overcome its claim on her mother’s soul once and for all.
Sometimes there’s nothing quite like a good, old fashioned Exorcism flick that features all the staples we’ve come to know and love and fear - Contorted bodies, speaking in tongues and the troubled protagonists that have to overcome all the odds.

Recently members of the press were invited to a bone-chilling event at La’s infamous Linda Vista Hospital to explore the realities of exorcism as revealed in the upcoming DVD release of the film The Devil Inside (Blu-ray/DVD review here).
While there we got much more than we bargained for.
Originally opened in 1904 by the Santa Fe Railroad, the once heralded hospital fell into disrepair by the 1980s and became known for its high number of patient deaths. Now long-abandoned and rife with tales of terrifying happenings throughout the decades, the hospital provided an ideal setting for a foray into the world beyond what we see...
Attending press learned about the hospital’s chilling manifestations from members of the "Boyle Heights Paranormal Project" and spoke with cast members from the film Suzan Crowley (“Maria Rossi”) and Bonnie Morgan (“Rosa”) as well as Maja D’Aoust, the White Witch of Los Angeles.

Following on from the surprising decision to screen William Brent Bell's new docu-exorcism horror flick 'The Devil Inside' in various churches around the world the UK decided to get in on the action and took the almost sacrilegous decision to preview the movie the night before its general release last Friday at the Round Chapel in Hackney, London. Bell co-penned the script for 'The Devil Inside' along with Matthew Peterman. Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Ionut Grama, Suzan Crowley, Bonnie Morgan and Brian Johnson all star in the movie. It's currently running in theatres here across the UK and you can check out a special audience reaction footage clip from the Hackey-based event below. ...

News reaches us that The Devil Inside has, despite a critical bashing both here and in the Us (including a bad film review from us), still somehow managed to take the top spot at the UK Box Office this weekend! And whilst we wouldn’t normally bring you news on a bad film reaching the top of the UK charts, this news does actually give us the opportunity to bring you footage from the screening we sent our intrepid “joe public” reviewer to – as she appears in the video! Look out for her at the 53 second mark…

Blending the possession elements of The Exorcist with the video-camera stylings of Paranormal Activity, new horror film The Devil Inside has topped the UK box office on its first weekend of release.
It belongs to the found footage genre in which a film is presented as an amateur recording of actual events, giving it an added sense of grittiness and authenticity. It's a documentary-style technique that may well make filmgoers ask if what they are seeing is real, thus offering an immediate suspension of disbelief.
So what better way to see how viewers responded than by pointing a video camera at the audience, too?
Following the earlier reaction footage, taken at a screening in America where the film was released at the start of January, comes a new video from the first UK screening last week. Like the Us showing, it was held in a church, which no doubt added to the creepy atmosphere.

We’re doing something a little different for this review folks… If you’ve read any of my reviews of documentary-style or found-footage horror flicks you’ll know I have a particular disdain for the sub-genre. Couple that fact with the terrible reviews that came out the Us when the film opened over there and I knew I’d give The Devil Inside a bad review. So I thought in the interests of balance and fairness, why not see what joe public thinks of the film? After all, despite what critics say about these types of movies they still attract an audience. Hence we tracked down a found footage film fan who has a fondness for the Paranormal Activity movies (again another franchise I...

The Devil Inside is both the latest exorcism movie and the latest found footage from an incomplete documentary film to hit cinemas, which smashed the Us box office when it opened in January to the tune of $33 million dollars. Not bad considering it cost less than a million to make and eventually went on to gross 83 times that worldwide and hasn’t even opened in the UK until today.
The setting for our press screening of the film was a suitably spooky Round Chapel in Hackney, which provided incredible acoustics for the film and having actual nuns and priests acting as Ushers and singing hymns in Latin added to what was already a great, Gothic setting for the screening. Odd considering the fact the film begins with the same tagline that is splashed across all the posters, ‘The Vatican does not endorse this movie’.

A Woman has reacted with sheer terror at a screening of exorcism thriller The Devil Inside, which goes on general release in the UK tomorrow.
Following the film's strong opening in North America in January - despite some harsh reviews - it will be interesting to see how UK filmgoers respond.
Paramount has indicated how at least some viewers have reacted with a new video of a special screening held in a church.
The footage of the audience shows one frightened woman squirming, twitching, gasping and jumping at the supernatural events in the movie.
The clip is embedded below, along with a reminder of the synopsis and trailer.

Fernanda Andrade said one of the defining characteristics of her character from “The Devil Inside,” Isabella was hope. “I think I started [exploring the character] from exploring the event itself,” the event being Isabella’s mother’s (Suzan Crowley) brutal murdering spree which landed her in the Catholic psychiatric ward, the idea being that she was–and still is–possessed. “[Isabella] has dealt with it her entire life, and is defined by it, so she goes out in search of the truth. With the search, there’s the hope that she isn’t insane and that she can have her mother back but there’s also the fear of ‘Could it happen to me.’” Being able to...

Despite what the advertising claims, The Devil Inside looks more at the various causes of malevolent behavior than the attempts to treat the symptoms. When science says possession is a product of the mind, maybe all there is to cause a person to be possessed is a switch than a demonic spirit.
Although most of the cinematography is buried by the use of the shaky-cam format, there are small parts of this movie to like. With the film offering very close-up shots of the eye as part of the visual tale, the video editor is imbuing this film with symbolism. If the eye is truly the window to the soul, as some holy texts lead readers to believe, this film certainly has plenty of those framed shots. By examining how the eye reacts,...

Hey, kids! It's time to fuel your disdain by bringing you some newly released clips for Paramount's The Devil Inside! Incidentally I'm appearing daily at the Del Mar Rubio's restaurant from 5-6 pm in San Diego in case you wanna show up and blame me for everything else that's gone wrong in your life because I'm one of six people in the world that was entertained by this flick. Be warned, though... if you spit at me, you're likely to end up having a really bad day!
The Devil Inside is playing (much to your chagrin) at your local theatre, right now, and given the expected unheard of drop in box office attendance, it's not likely to be there very long.

In my ten years covering the genre, I don't think I've ever seen a harsher backlash toward one film as I have with Paramount Insurge's The Devil Inside. Despite the jeering, spitting, throwing of garbage, and my own public text-based crucifixion for daring to think it was pretty good, the film managed to pull in $34.5M during its opening weekend. Given its success, a sequel is a no-brainer, right? Maybe, maybe not.

For decades, The Lost Boys earned the top spot on my "movies that cheated the audiences at the end" list. By rewriting vampire lore in the last 8 minutes, the entire movie was ruined for me, no small feat given my proclivity to suspend disbelief (and yes, I revisited that film and the review is coming soon).
But the reigning champion was dethroned this weekend, as The Devil Inside delivered a brutal kick to the gut to moviegoers. It's unfortunate, as the film is pretty good, keeping the audience either deathly silent or screaming at all the right moments. But as the credits rolled, most of the audience at the screening I attended went from shrieking to jeering and booing at the screen.

But as the credits rolled, most of the audience at the screening I attended went from shrieking to jeering and booing at the screen.

Box-office prognosticators, beware: "The Devil Inside" defied all industry expectations with its $34.5 million debut this weekend.
That's more than double where most estimates put the film just a few days ago. And despite mixed reviews, the supernatural horror thriller earned more than 34 times its estimated production budget of less than $1 million.
Perhaps the devil is in the details: "Devil" made 49 percent of its weekend total on Friday and was the only new wide release in theaters, with the exception of the acclaimed drama "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." The Cold War era espionage tale, which expanded to 809 locations, had the weekend's second-best per-screen average, just behind "Devil" at 2,285 locations.
Nevertheless, the Paramount-distributed "Devil" had the third-biggest January opening ever, just behind 2008's "Cloverfield" and the 1997 re-release of the first "Star Wars.

It's the latest micro-budget film to storm the Us box office - but is The Devil Insider worth the bother? Here's Ron's review...
When Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) was a small child, there was... an incident. Her mother Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) killed three members of the clergy while the two priests and a nun were performing an exorcism on her without the Vatican's permission. Isabella grows up, and her mother gets shipped off to a mental hospital in Rome, right in the shadow of the Vatican.
Fortunately for Isabella, being so close to the Vatican gives her a unique opportunity to meet a pair of priests, Ben (Simon Quarterman) and David (Evan Helmuth), who practiced unlicensed exorcisms using a unique mix of medical science and religious rituals to determine who is simply mentally ill and who has an actual Satan infestation. Of course, this unique combination of situations makes...

Simon Quarterman, The Devil Inside North Americans want original, high-quality stories, pundits are always reminding us. Make good, original movies and you'll have lots of butts warming movie seats. Well, the warm butts are back in huge numbers thanks to … The Devil Inside, a derivative, cheaply made horror flick with a 7% approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' critics and an "F" CinemaScore rating from moviegoers. As per figures found at Box Office Mojo, on its first weekend in early January, The Devil Inside grossed an estimated $34.5 million. That's nearly half of the prestigious The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's take after three weekends — including two weeks during the height of the holiday season. Paramount clearly has found another Paranormal Activity cashcow to milk from. Give them original, quality movies and they'll come. In large part as a result of The Devil Inside's box-office allure and of the continuing success...

If you watched Paranormal Activity and its sequels, and thought to yourself you could get rich by copying that formula (and doing it badly), you might be William Brent Bell, writer and director of The Devil Inside. This movie tries to do for possession what Paranormal Activity did with poltergeists.
Made for a miniscule sum (although it probably looks cheaper than its actual budget), The Devil Inside is at best described as inept and at worst blatantly disdainful of the audience. It is the only film I have seen where the audience as one booed and hissed as the final credits began to roll.
The Devil Inside presents, documentary-style, the story of Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) as she attempts to uncover the truth about her mother, who is confined to a psychiatric hospital in Rome. Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley), has been confined since the death of three people during an attempted exorcism.

New 'The Devil Inside' movie delivered lots of weird thrills, drama & crazy ending. Paramount Pictures released their crazy, new thriller/horror flick "The Devil Inside" into theaters this weekend. I just got through checking it out,and at the very least,I found it to be quite interesting as well as entertaining. It served up some wild, exorcism scenes that ended quite brutally, and more. The movie stars: Fernanda Andrade, Isabella Rossi, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Ionut Grama, Suzan Crowley, Bonnie Morgan, Brian Johnson, Preston James Hillier, and D.T. Carney. In the flick,a lady named Maria Rossi called 911 back in 1989,claiming,she killed three people. She was eventually sent to a Catholic psychiatric hospital in Rome,Italy, where she continued to just get worse. Next,it cut 20 years to 2009,where her daughter named Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) goes on a journey to look for answers as to what happened to her crazy mother.

Suzan Crowley, The Devil Inside All Hollywood needs is a good movie and North Americans will return to movie theaters. Well, The Devil Inside is apparently that "good" movie: with an 8% approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' critics, the horror thriller/exorcism "documentary" earned $2 million at Thursday midnight screenings at 1,400 sites. That's considerably more than Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' $1.25 million in mid-December. As per Deadline.com and The Hollywood Reporter, The Devil Inside is expected to collect $12-15 million on Friday (including the Thursday midnight screenings) and $25-30 million for the weekend. If those estimates are correct, the cheapo horror thriller at 2,285 locations will definitely top the North American box office. According to the Reporter, Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol should rake in around $19 million at no. 2. Distributed by Paramount's Insurge label, The Devil Inside was reportedly acquired for $1m. If it goes half as...

If only this was a sit-com, what an uproarious work The Devil Inside would be. From this critical angle, (perhaps after proper lubrication, Alamo Drafthouse why aren’t you near me?) you could settle in for solid camp. Sober, the comparisons to Rick Santorum’s stance on abortion are uncanny – oops – spoiler alert.
Of course I can spoil this film all I want to. It is, as the Blues Travelers say, the hook that brings you back. The hook here is similar to many a film in this genre; people freaking out, bleeding and a lot of “the power of Christ compels you!” Holy water is spilled and things go boom in the night (thanks to Dolby surround sound).

If I have any complaints about movie-going in general, it's the nearly all of the spectacle is gone. In the days of the great William Castle (who pretty much created viral marketing), there would be all manner of gimmicks associated with his films from seat buzzers to insurance policies to flying skeletons sailing over the crowd. What a fun time to have been a fan! As a tip of the hat to those golden days of cinema, Paramount had a little surprise in store for those who attended the Los Angeles premiere of The Devil Inside.

Normally one doesn’t associate January with horror, but within the past few years we’ve been seeing more and more of those genre films filling up the first month of the year. It’s happening all over again with “The Devil Inside,” the new horror-thriller from Paramount Insurge that’s directed by William Brent Bell. The story, written by Brent Bell and Matthew Peterson, centers on Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade), a young girl who files all the way to Rome in order to figure out if her mother Maria (Suzan Crowley) is mentally ill or is possessed by a demon. She enlists the help of two priests (Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth) as they...

Paramount's The Devil Inside has horror fans divided. Some loved it, some liked it, and some hate it on a level that's borderline irrational. We fell into the liked it category, and to further help you make your decision about whether or not to go see it this weekend, we have another new clip and a way for you to continue the demonic journey of Maria Rossi!
The ending of the flick seems to be the main culprit when it comes to people's opinions on the flick, but let's face it: In the world of horror movies, does anything really ever end?
As a result Paramount has set up a website called The Rossi Files, which is home to all types of viral goodies like never-before-seen footage, archival notes, and more. Click on the image of the newspaper to get started.

Review in a Hurry: The devil is back for the umpteenth time to wreak havoc on shaky cams everywhere...It must be January at the multiplex. Aren't we tired of all these demon possession flicks yet? Well, sure and truthfully, most of it is tired, but this found footage flick has something new up it's heavily crucifixed sleeve, but to give that away would spoil the one genuinely scary part. For most of the running time this demon pic amps up the blurry shots and loud booming screams to signify well, not much. The Bigger Picture: Based on a true story—at least as true as The Last Exorcism or The Rite anyway—Devil is the story of Maria Rossi (an effectively kooky Suzan Crowley), who back in '89 brutally...

Director: William Brent Bell Writers: William Brent Bell, Matthew Peterman Starring: Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Suzan Crowley As a subcategory of the horror genre, the exorcism film does not have the best reputation. For every The Exorcist, there are a dozen Posessed’s and Beyond the Door’s. Yet, when done well, there is rarely something as profoundly disturbing as the image of someone in the grips of demonic possession. The Devil Inside combines traditional exorcism tropes with a quick, well written story to provide a deliciously horrifying package; blood, Bible and all. Writer/Director William Brent Bell appears to have an acute understanding of exorcism film’s successful attributes and its traditional flaws. Recycled trademarks like unnaturally contorted bodies, speaking in tongues, and sexual threats are all present in The Devil Inside, but they do not feel old or tired. The film also avoids any preachy religious characters,...

Nearly thirteen years after The Blair Witch Project introduced the concept of “found footage” films to mainstream audiences while simultaneously harnessing the power of the burgeoning Internet to launch a massively successful viral campaign that hinged on audiences buying into the “truth” behind the film, the found fauxtage horror genre continues to chug almost unstoppably along. Unstoppably, that is, until The Devil Inside, the latest on-the-cheap pick-up from Paramount Insurge, the studio’s indie genre label formed after the massive success of the Paranormal Activity films. Like the Pa films, The Devil Inside was made for little money by some scrappy filmmakers (writer Matthew Peterman and director and co-writer William Brent Bell), but unlike the Pa films, The Devil Inside is almost totally void of originality, style, or even genuine scares, and we can only hope that it doesn’t spawn any of its own sequels. The film follows twentysomething Isabella Rossi (played with reasonable pluck by...

The Devil Inside
Directed by: William Brent Bell
Cast: Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Suzan Crowley
Running Time: 1 hr 27 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: January 6, 2012
Plot: The daughter (Andrade) of a woman (Crowley) who was possessed in 1989 goes to Rome to better understand exorcisms. She befriends two exorcists (Quarterman and Helmuth) who go against church guidelines.
Who’S It For? If you want a multiplex experience that will legitimately thrill you, go see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. If you’re looking for something to satisfy a lust for the disturbing and gruesome, go see Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. You won’t get anything from your ticket to The Devil Inside, aside from more re-assurance that found footage movies are cheap ways for films to suck.
Overall
Don’t even bother with the actual images within The Devil Inside when deducing how terrible the first new movie of 2012 is.

Even though it seems that every January now seems to be a dumping ground for a new religious themed horror film (last year the forgetful The Rite held that honor), I still had an inkling of curiosity going into The Devil Inside. Whether it was the clever yet simple title or the striking poster art of a woman revealing an embedded upside down cross in her inner lip, The Devil Inside looked like it was attempting to create its own universe (and apparently its own franchise) to set it apart from other religious themed horror films and “found footage” horror entries. Unfortunately, originality was left only for the name and marketing for this predictable and conventional thriller.
The film opens with a chill inducing 911-call followed by a police video that shows the results of an exorcism gone wrong. Three clergy members have been murdered and the troubled woman who...
