His second wife's name is Ginger, the famous character name of his ex-wife Tina Louise; internationally known as "Ginger" on Gilligan's Island.
In 1964, he had the Rolling Stones on his talk show, in their first TV appearance in the US. Other guests included Bob Dylan, Malcolm X, and Alabama governor George Wallace.

Later in life, he joined the budding computer software business. He headed The Software Toolworks, and helped to develop widely-used programs such as the Chessmaster games.
