Eddie Murphy is back with a badge for the fourth franchise installment of his beloved series, with “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”
The upcoming Netflix film, which teased a first look earlier this year, marks Murphy’s long-rumored reprisal the iconic character Detective Axel Foley. The ’80s-era franchise first began with Foley as a Detroit detective turned temporary L.A. police officer for an uncover mission. Now, after having worked in L.A. sporadically for decades, Foley teams up with his estranged daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) to take down yet another conspiracy.
Along the way, Foley lands a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and police captain (Kevin Bacon), but his old confidantes, including Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton), are still in the mix. Also returning? Franchise co-stars Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.

Three decades after he last graced our screen, Axel Foley is back, back, back. Eddie Murphy is returning to his most famous character in long-awaited fourquel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F – and he’s got a whole new squad with him. While there are familiar faces returning (Judge Reinhold’s Lieutenant Billy Rosewood and Bronson Pinchot’s Serge among them), expect plenty of newcomers too: Taylour Paige as Foley’s estranged daughter Jane, Kevin Bacon as police Captain Grant. And, most importantly, there’s Foley’s brand new police partner: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Detective Bobby Abbott.
While Foley’s unpredictability is his greatest asset, Abbott is a much more measured presence. “This character is a bit strait-laced – I am an actual Beverly Hills cop, whereas Axel Foley is a cop from Detroit who finds himself in Beverly Hills – but he’s not a simple straight man,” Gordon-Levitt tells Empire. He,...

Whenever Jamie Foxx steps up to a microphone, one can expect to be entertained.
And that’s precisely what the Oscar and Grammy-winning superstar plans to do when he hits the road to discuss the circumstances around his sudden hospitalization nearly a year ago.
On Sunday afternoon, Foxx offered attendees of the African American Film Critics Association’s (Aafca) Special Achievement Awards luncheon a sneak peek at the tone of that material — a mix of heartfelt reflection with some top-notch zingers — while accepting Aafca’s Producers Award alongside his Foxxhole Productions partner Datari Turner.
2023 was a big year for the company thanks to the back-to-back successes of Netflix’s “They Cloned Tyrone” and Amazon’s “The Burial.” But while Foxxhole’s movies were shooting to the top of the streaming charts, Foxx was fighting for his life after suffering a medical emergency — the nature of which has not been disclosed.

Actor-director Ben Affleck and actress-singer Jennifer Lopez rekindled their romance in 2021 after almost 20 years. However, the ‘Argo’ star had a request. Ben didn’t want their relationship to play out in front of her followers, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Ben made the revelation in the new Prime Video documentary ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’.
“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media’,” the actor and director, 51, recalls.
“Then I sort of realised it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water’.”
As per ‘People’, despite Ben’s apprehensions, the couple has made it work, getting engaged in April 2022 and tying the knot in Las Vegas that July.

Before Ne-Yo became a household name, the budding performer was working tirelessly as a songwriter behind the scenes, and his breakthrough came in the form of then-16-year-old singer Mario.
Released in October 2004, Ne-Yo wrote “Let Me Love You” for Mario’s sophomore album Turning Point — the follow-up to his hit “Just a Friend 2002” — and the smooth R&b track became an international hit. It topped the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine weeks and spent 11 weeks on top of the Hot R&b/Hip-Hop songs chart. It earned Mario his first-ever Grammy nomination and helped the teen singer transition to a performer with an adult fanbase.
But Ne-Yo admits, “I remember when I wrote that song, I did not think Mario was going to be able to pull it off.”
“Mind you, I hadn’t met him yet,” he adds. “All I knew was that he had just turned 16 and I’m like,...

T-Pain made headlines last year when he released a cover of the Black Sabbath classic “War Pigs” and knocked it out of the park. Now, the rapper/singer has gotten the attention of Ozzy Osbourne himself.
The Prince of Darkness took to X, formerly Twitter, to repost a live clip of T-Pain covering “War Pigs.” Like the aforementioned studio version of the cover, T-Pain kills it here as well, delivering a soulful vocal performance — no auto-tune required.

Animation and fantasy go hand in hand. In the 80s, there was a boom of fantasy epics in the land of cartoons that had nothing to do with the House of Mouse and everything to do with adult content. This was helped along from the previous decade by creator Ralph Bakshi, who had started things off with Fritz the Cat and would be the first to do a feature-length version of Lord of The Rings with his animated film and the trippy flick Wizards (and later – the cult film Cool World).
During our fave decade, Anime would find a welcoming home in the US with several classics that would be released during that time. Canada would also get into the mix with Heavy Metal (which we’ll get to.) But Ralph Bakshi decided to join forces with one of the biggest names in fantasy art for a new entry into...

An American Werewolf in London video puts Elmer Bernstein’s rejected music over transformation scene
Writer/director John Landis always intended to use Sam Cooke’s version of the song “Blue Moon” over the famous transformation scene in his 1981 classic An American Werewolf in London (watch it Here), and he let the film’s composer Elmer Bernstein know that up front. He chose “Blue Moon” because he wanted the scene to come off as being sad and painful rather than scary – but while putting together the score for the film, Bernstein decided to go ahead and compose some of his own music for the transformation scene. Just in case. Landis ended up rejecting Bernstein’s transformation music and stuck with “Blue Moon”… but now filmmaker Paul Davis, who generously shared 35 minutes of rare outtake footage from The Exorcist on Halloween this year, has put Bernstein’s rejected music over the transformation scene and uploaded it to YouTube. You can check it out in the embed...

During a 1972 interview with Rolling Stone, Simon was asked to name which Beatles songs he thought would last. “I would pick ‘Yesterday,'” he said. “I would pick ‘Strawberry Fields [Forever]’ — although there is your example of a total record. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are living in a wonderful world. In celebration of Affleck's 51st birthday on Aug. 15, J Lo posted a musical birthday tribute featuring a candid carpool duet. The Instagram video showed the two on the road, singing along to Sam Cooke's "(What A) Wonderful World," with Affleck driving and Lopez filming from the passenger seat. "Dear Ben . . . Happy Birthday. I love you!" she captioned the post as the two belted out song lyrics in the background.
Although Lopez replaced their own voices with the original 1959 track, we already know that the couple shares a deep love for music. As proof, J Lo recently gave an impromptu karaoke performance while on vacation in Italy, and the two also serenaded guests at their 2022 Christmas party (starring Affleck's remarkably heartfelt rendition of John Legend's "By Christmas Eve").

Lithofayne (Faye) Pridgon was Jimi Hendrix’s original “Foxy Lady.” When they met, Pridgon was bold and flirtatious—characteristics that caused Hendrix to feel self-conscious once they were together. The famed guitarist even had rules for her to follow at night clubs.
Jimi Hendrix was devoted to and possessive of Faye Pridgon
Hendrix was certainly more devoted to Pridgon than many of his contemporaries were to their girlfriends. The guitarist had a habit of writing Pridgon “passionate, poetic love letters,” which she kept her entire life.
“He was also fiercely possessive and her naturally bold, flirtatious manner, which had first drawn them together, became unacceptable once they were a couple,” reads Wild Thing: The Short, Spellbinding Life of Jimi Hendrix by Philip Norman.
When Pridgon would join Hendrix at the clubs he’d play at, she was forbidden to dance with other men unless the song was uptempo and there was no body contact.

Jimi Hendrix met Lithofayne (Faye) Pridgon outside the Apollo theater. He was trying to get backstage to talk with Sam Cooke, who he thought could help his career. Hendrix and Pridgon took a quick liking to each other. Here’s how their whirlwind romance began.
Who was Faye Pridgon?
Pridgon was born in Dirty Spoon, Georgia. She was the daughter of a professional dancer and reportedly the illegitimate great granddaughter of Henry Ford, according to Wild Thing by Philip Norman. At 15 years old she had an affair with Little Willie John, who’s known for the song “Fever.” At 16, she was romantically connected to Same Cooke, which is how she got Hendrix backstage that night at the Apollo. It also didn’t hurt that she was best friends with Etta James.
When Hendrix met Pridgon, she was two years older than him. She wore a tight pegged skirt and higher-than-high heels.

Tracy Chapman is making history.
According to Billboard, the singer-songwriter has become the first Black woman to top the Country Airplay chart with a song, as the sole writer.
Luke Combs’ cover of Chapman’s 1988 hit “Fast Car” hit the top spot in the chart dated July 8, meaning Chapman has now been honoured with quite the first.
It’s actually only the second time a Black songwriter has topped the Country Airplay charts as the sole writer on a song since its 1990 debut. The other song was also a cover, with Dan Seals’ version of Sam Cooke’s “Good Times” reaching No. 1 in 1990.
Cooke hit No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the original 1964 version, which was written solely by him.
“Fast Car” hitting the top spot also marked the first time a remake of a pop hit has reached No. 1 in 15 years, after Blake Shelton topped Country Airplay with his...

T-Pain considers himself a pretty talented vocalist - no autotune needed. He even dared to test out his skills by releasing a cover album in March titled "On Top of the Covers" - which includes fresh renditions of classics like Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," and Sam Smith's "Stay With Me." However, T-Pain tells Popsugar there's one song on the album that he was nervous to recreate.
"'War Pigs,' and it wasn't because of the difficulty of the song. It was because I was kind of worried about the reception of it because it's just like, 'You sure about that?' You don't go messing with people's classics," he says.

“American Idol” has crowned its newest winner in Hawaii native Iam Tongi, whose victory as the first Aapi winner of the ABC competition still has not fully hit him.
“It’s unreal,” Tongi told TheWrap just two days after Ryan Seacrest announced his name on the big stage. “It’s weird to be here [as] the winner, because … it was going so slow during the competition, but out of nowhere it was finished and I was like ‘that went by so fast.'”
While several Aapi contestants have climbed their way to the top three finalists, including fan-favorite Jasmine Trias of the show’s third installment, Tongi noted that this milestone achievement happening during national Aapi month in May gives the win an even bigger significance, saying “it feels really good to be representing why Polynesian people during this month.”

Jim Brown, the NFL Hall of Famer and Civil Rights activist who turned to acting and appeared in films and TV shows ranging from The Dirty Dozen and I Spy to Draft Day, Mars Attacks! and The A-Team, died Thursday night in Los Angeles. His wife, Monique Brown, said in an Instagram post that he died peacefully, but she did not provide a cause.
Brown is considered among the greatest football players of all time. Drafted sixth overall in 1957 by the Cleveland Browns out of Syracuse University, his bruising running style redefined the running back position. As a rookie, he ran for 237 yards in a game against the Los Angeles Rams — a record that would stand until the 1970s.

American Idol’s structure looks much different now than when the show first started. Once the competition show transitioned from Fox to ABC back in 2018, the new network also created a different format. The show now moves along much quicker than it ever used to. It sometimes feels like the show is racing through contestants, which begs the question: When is this season’s finale?

Connecticut is set to declare Sunday, April 23, 2023 as “Little Richard Day” in honor of the late performer’s “incomparable contributions to the history of music in America.” And no, the rock n’ roll icon doesn’t hail from the Nutmeg state. He was born in Georgia and lived in California, Tennessee and other ports of call until his death in 2020.
Rather, Gov. Ned Lamont is issuing the proclamation in recognition of the release this month of “Little Richard: I Am Everything” and Connecticut’s many ties to the production.
The film, which Magnolia bought out of the Sundance Film Festival, will premiere at the Bedford Playhouse, which is hosted by the Greenwich International Film Festival on April 23. Little Richard — music icon, legend and the man behind hits such as “Tutti Frutti” and “Good Golly Miss Molly” — inspired a generation. But despite his success, there were points in his career where “he doesn’t feel he’s been recognized,” says filmmaker Lisa Cortés.
Her latest documentary, “Little Richard: I Am Everything,” in theaters on April 21, seeks to remind a new generation of his legacy.
Cortés says the documentary draws parallels with “All In: The Fight for Democracy” which she co-directed with Liz Garbus, in which she followed Stacy Abrams on her political campaign. Speaking with Variety, she said, “Both of these films are talking about issues that are political hot buttons. There are states where Black and queer history are under attack, and they’re passing laws against the teaching of this history. We see those are very important parts of Richard’s origin story and of rock ‘and’n’ roll.

In competition shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, contestants audition to hear “yes” or “no” from the judges. The Voice works a little differently. Instead of a vote, the coaches who are interested in a contestant will turn their chairs around. The artist then gets to pick their coach if more than one person turns. Only a handful of artists each season manage to turn all four chairs on The Voice. Many artists with four-chair turns, like Girl Named Tom, even go on to win. So, let’s take a look at the artists who turned four chairs on The Voice Season 23.

Blake Shelton has seen many four-chair turns in his 12 years on The Voice. In his final season, however, he has just one on his team: Neil Salsich.

Just a couple of months before the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unveils its Class of 2023, Courtney Love has accused the foundation of misogyny in an op-ed for The Guardian published Friday titled Why are women so marginalised by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?.
In the essay, Love cited writer Jessica Hopper, who recently calculated that only 8.48% of Rock Hall inductees are women: “When the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame started in 1983, you would have thought they might want to begin with Sister Rosetta, with those first chords that chimed the songbook we were now all singing from,” the Hole bandleader wrote. “The initial inductees were Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley; not a woman in sight.”
Love went on: “It took the Rock Hall 30-plus years to induct Nina Simone and Carole King.

Billy Preston is amongst an exclusive club of a few musicians who some refer to as the “fifth Beatle.” Billy Preston was a keyboard player who impacted The Beatles more than some may realize. Outside of The Beatles, Preston had an accomplished career, working with many of the greatest artists ever.

Some people are naturally gifted at playing instruments, and Preston realized his gift at a young age. By the age of 10, he was playing the organ for gospel singers like Mahalia Jackson, despite being entirely self-taught. At 11, he appeared on an episode of Nat King Cole’s NBC TV show and sang a Fats Domino song with Cole.
In 1962, Preston joined Little Richard’s band as an organist. While performing in Hamburg, Preston met The Beatles, who had been invited to be Little Richard’s opening act.

Beck’s brand of classic rock saw him briefly share the Yardbirds with Jimmy Page, add Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to his namesake band, and form a surprising friendship with Johnny Depp. Beck called Hendrix trouble and then witnessed him “put the final nail” in his coffin as the dominant guitar god of the era after Hendrix arrived in England.

With The Beatles bending musical norms, the Yardbirds twisting American blues into something psychedelic, and The Rolling Stones coming into their own, the English music scene in the mid-1960s was a cauldron of creation.
Then Jimi Hendrix entered the picture and blew up the frame.

Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. Although this day marks just the beginning of an ongoing battle for equality, Juneteenth represents an opportunity to celebrate the joy of the Black experience as much as the hardship. And TheWrap’s got a great list of films to get that celebration started.
Once you’ve checked out some of the more educational Juneteenth-related fare, like “13th” or “I Am Not Your Negro,” consider adding some of these flicks to your streaming list.

“Soul,” Pixar’s first film to feature an African-American protagonist, follows Joe Gardener, a middle school music teacher with dreams of becoming a jazz star. When Joe dies prematurely before receiving his big break, he gets a second chance at his fantasy when accidentally enters the Great Before — a place that prepares unborn souls for real life. “Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over” has its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.
In the era of the “authorized documentary,” whereby filmmakers get access to a living legend in exchange for a film that’s going to be almost unfailingly glowing, it’s incumbent upon documentarians to find some element of interest to take the place of scandal, criticism or provocation.
Thankfully, the makers of “Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over” have such a fascinating subject — and who gives interviews that are equal parts warm, self-deprecating, no-nonsense and unapologetic — that the movie almost never feels like a greatest-hits informercial. Warwick is one of the all-time great vocalists, yes, but she actively intersected her career with the world outside of show business, from the civil rights movement to the early years of the AIDS epidemic.
If the film teaches viewers under the age of 35 that Warwick is more...
