Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will be showing in theatres today (that’s September 10th), with more showings to follow on Sunday, September 15th… and yes, of course, some theatres will be showing the movie this Friday as well, since it happens to be a Friday the 13th. Check ParamountScares.com to find out if Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will be showing at a theatre near you!

Not only did we surprise Screambox subscribers with Abel Ferrara’s (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York) 1993 sci-fi horror classic Body Snatchers, but we’re also celebrating the 1986 slasher classic Killer Party, both streaming right now on Screambox.
It’s an early April Fool’s Day on Screambox when the sisters of Sigma Alpha Pi believe they’ve found the perfect place to throw a party: the abandoned fraternity house where a guillotined pledge once lost his head in a hazing gone awry.
“But shortly after their revelry begins, the student body count starts to rise as the vengeful pledge returns from the grave and makes it a party to die for.”

For the last few years, Paramount has been giving the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. The original Friday the 13th got its steelbook release in 2020, and you can pick that up Here. Friday the 13th Part 2 got its steelbook release in 2021, and you can buy that one at This Link. Friday the 13th Part III followed its predecessors in 2022, and you can get that steelbook Here. There was no Friday the 13th movie released in 1983, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter didn’t come along until ’84, so I was wondering if Paramount was going to wait an extra year to release a steelbook for that one… and the answer is no. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release for its 39th anniversary, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon!

James Cameron’s Spider-Man. Kind of has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Well, unlike the fictional James Cameron’s Aquaman–of which only a few fleeting seconds exist in the universe of the long-defunct HBO series Entourage–a Spider-Man movie written and directed by the legendary filmmaker almost came to pass in the early 1990s.
But like so many superhero and comics-based projects during that time–a relative Dark Ages for the genre–Cameron’s vision for the webslinging high school student never swung into theaters.
Almost all of it was down to legal issues surrounding the rights to Spider-Man, which kept him off the screen for years. But a glance through the “scriptment” that Cameron worked up–a detailed treatment outlining the story, characters, and even passages of dialogue–indicates that Cameron’s conception of the character and his mythos was very faithful in its own way.

Happy Friday the 13th, Campers! It’s time to talk about the high water mark of the Friday the 13th saga, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the action-packed fourth entry that was decidedly not the final chapter of this twelve-part (so far) series. Reader beware: this review is not devoid of spoilers, though this writer tries to maintain a few surprises for the uninitiated.
After Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) took terror into the third dimension, Final Chapter was able to capitalize on the best elements of its predecessors while smoothing out some of their storytelling hiccups. Final Chapter ports over the basic setup of Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) and Part III: Tormented former New Jersey summer camp attendee Jason Voorhees (Ted White this time around), wreaks belated vengeance on the same camp’s next generation of counselors. In the original Friday the 13th (1980), a surprising different...

There was a time in the ‘80s when the rights to Marvel’s Spider-Man passed from producer Roger Corman to Cannon Films. As you know, neither of the studios were known for their high quality films. They didn’t have very high standards.
When Cannon Films landed the rights to Spider-Man in 1985, they started developing it as a horror movie that was inspired by David Cronenberg’s The Fly! The studio even brought on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre director Tobe Hooper to work on the film along with Outer Limits creator Leslie Stevens to write a script for the film.
This would have been unlike any Spider-Man story that’s even been told! In this version of Peter Parker’s origin story, “instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, Parker was deliberately bombarded with radiation by a corporate scientist – named Doctor Zork – who transforms the ID photographer into a giant eight-armed spider-hybrid,...

Jason Voorhees lost his head, but got a stay of execution in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky since October 1307 when King Philip IV of France ordered the executions of all of the Knights Templars because God was “not pleased.” It was a bloody beginning to a long tradition.
But not every Friday the Thirteenth is unfortunate, no matter how much blood gets spilled. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was very lucky.
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was supposed to close the franchise begun by the 1980 low budget proto-slasher movie Friday the 13th, which was directed by Sean S. Producer Mark Canton ("300") has teamed with Pterodactyl Productions to reboot the teen surfer character 'Gidget' for both TV and feature films.
The name 'Gidget' is a combination of 'girl and midget'.
The character was created by author Frederick Kohner in his 1957 novel "Gidget, The Little Girl With Big Ideas", written in the first person, based on the accounts of his daughter Kathy and the surf culture of Malibu Point.
Kohner, a prolific screenwriter with one Academy Award nomination, published seven sequels to his first "Gidget" novel, including "Cher Papa" (1959), "The Affairs of Gidget" (1963), "Gidget in Love" (1965), "Gidget Goes Parisienne" (1966) and "Gidget Goes New York" (1968), plus two novelizations based on films including "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" (1961) and "Gidget Goes to Rome" (1963), based on original stories by Ruth Brooks Flippin.
Barney Cohen is in charge of the new projects, working with "Gidget" rights holder Gidget Worldwide.

Pterodactyl's Barney Cohen ("Sabrina the Teenage Witch") signed a deal with licensor Gidget Worldwide to develop the property for the big screen and small screen. Launched in a 1957 novel, Gidget spawned several movies, TV series and telepics, and launched the careers of Sandra Dee and Sally Field. "The New Gidget," which aired from 1987-88, marked the most recent screen outing for the can-do surfer girl.

It looks like the surf-chick is set for a comic-book look revamp courtesy of 300 producer Mark Canton as gets set to revive the Malibu heroine Gidget for the new millennium. Pterodactyl's Barney Cohen has signed a deal with licensor Gidget Worldwide to develop the property for both television and cinemas.
As a lifestyle brand, Gidget has enjoyed something of a global revival in recent years, spanning clothing ranges, accessories, sportswear, surfboards, bikes, skateboards and a Gidget Surf School. Launched in a 1957 novel, Gidget spawned several movies, TV series and telepics, and launched the careers of Sandra Dee and Sally Field. The New Gidget, which aired in the late 1980s, marked the most recent screen outing for the able and willing surfer girl.
The new movie's producer clearly thinks the surfing icon has the potential for a successful comeback. Canton said yesterday that "Gidget has always been such a strong symbol of girl power.

Is the world ready for a new take on iconic surf girl Gidget, even though she exists more as a worldwide merchandising property than a film or TV character these days? 300 producer Mark Canton seems to think so, and he’s teaming up with Pterodactyl Productions to bring the character back to the big and small screens.First birthed in a 1957 novel, Gidget became something of a pop cultural sensation in the late 1950s and ‘60s across the pond, with TV series and movies based around her, which kick-started the careers of Sandra Dee and Sally Field, who played her.The most recent screen incarnation was 1987’s series The New Gidget, though she’s better known as the surf bum equivalent of Hello Kitty or Emily The Strange right now, with her name plastered over sporting goods, skateboards and (natch) surfboards.Barney Cohen is in charge of getting the new projects up and running,...

Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.
Friday the 13th was released on Blu-Ray on June 16th, 2009.

Last night FEARnet editor Lawrence Raffel and I got down and boogied at Hollywood's Bungalow Club with the stars of Friday the 13th, Parts IV through VI. We joined them and DVD producer Dan Farrands in celebrating the films' new Deluxe Edition DVDs. All three titles arrive in stores today, June 16th (from Paramount Home Entertainment), with more cool special features than you can swing a machete at. (We got a sneak peek at these extras on a big screen at the event, and all of them look pretty terrific.) Hit the jump to check out more pics from this swinging bash. Joining FEARnet and Farrands were Barney Cohen (screenwriter of The Final Chapter), Shavar Ross (Reggie from Part V), Camilla and...

It only figures that Paramount Pictures would continue their DVD re-releases of the original Friday the 13th flicks with that 2009 remake still generating so much discussion. After all, it's not like a Hollywood studio to overlook an opportunity to make some extra money. Still, I have to give them at least a little bit of credit. A lot of care was taken in producing those Deluxe Editions of Friday the 13th, part I, II and III. The transfers were, by-and-large, excellent, the sound was a definite improvement and a lot of creativity went into compiling all the special features. If a studio is going to double-dip, for fans this is how it should be done. While none of these films are what I'd call my personal favorites, they're all such silly guilty pleasures it's hard to work up much in the way of anger towards those who might feel different.

During the finale of Friday The 13th Part III, we catch a few glimpses of Jason’s face. The bastard flashes a twisted smile not once, but twice at the woman he’s hoping to murder. In The Final Chapter (buy it on DVD here), Jason is again unmasked by the Final Girl—and she too is given a freakish grin to haunt her dreams. My question: Does this Jason always smile when he kills, or only when he’s face-to-unmasked face with his prey? Chew on that the next time you watch this ballbuster, rightfully hailed by many as the most entertaining and satisfying in the Friday series.
Tom Savini returns to lay waste to his most famous creation, with tastefully restrained FX that pack enough of a wallop to warrant hoots and cheers. Jason is played by Ted White, a stunt-gent who used to double for John Wayne,...

So many people working in the horror industry are there because they grew up being a fan. However, for writer/producer Dan Farrands, his reason for pursuing his dream came from a fan letter response he received when he was 14 years old.
“I had written this letter to Frank Mancuso, Jr., telling him how much of a fan I was of the Friday the 13th movies, and I even pitched him my idea for the ‘ultimate’ Jason movie too,” explained Farrands. “I really didn’t expect to get a response from him, let alone a full-blown letter. Once I got it, it lit the fire for me to want to work in the horror industry. I still have it framed on my desk.”

Well, it’s been seven years since Jason Voorhees chopped up foolish teens exclusively. Sure he shared screen time with Freddy Krueger in 2003’s crossover Freddy Vs Jason, yes he accumulated quite the body count in the film, yes it was a lot of fun, and yes the film was pretty damn successful, but diehard fans such as myself certainly missed that special “alone time” with Mr. Voorhees. Now Jason is back, solely stealing the spotlight and the lives of reckless youngins, and despite a mostly negative critical response and dismal box office staying power, he's still one massive murdering machine.
Over the last 29 years Jason has claimed more victims than even imaginable. From random teens, to strange drifters, to diner employees, Jason has eliminated just about everyone to (unluckily) grace the big screen with the masked menace. As a result of Voorhees’ obnoxious kill rate, fans have pondered the...

Sometimes you wanna go where you know everybody’s name. For diehard fans, that’s the fun of revisiting Friday The 13th. Even if you’ve heard or read some of the stories contained in His Name Was Jason at conventions, in books like Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories and the documentaries, etc. included on the 2004 Friday DVD box, there’s still a weird lust for some of us to search for undiscovered livers and gizzards in the franchise’s body.
On the other corkscrewed hand, those who haven’t had the chance to check out the books and documentaries are in for a serious treat with His Name, out February 3 in a double-dvd set from Anchor Bay (Pre-Order Here). Director Dan Farrands (screenwriter of The Girl Next Door and Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers) and writer/producers Anthony Masi (who explored another archetypal slasher with Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror...
