- Director
- Cinematographer
She is a journalist from Madrid who covers arts & culture, American
politics and breaking news for El Pais in New York. She is also a
regular contributor for Spanish Vogue, Spanish Rolling Stone, ARS
Magazine, Ioncinema.com. Her feature articles have been published in
the LA Weekly, GQ Spain, Gentleman, the Italian daily La Repubblica and
Il diario della settimana, among others. She worked as a NY
international affairs correspondent for El Correo, Europa Press and La
Voz de Galicia and as a freelance TV producer for Spanish and Italian
networks. Her passion for cinema brought her into the film production
business, where she worked for three years as one of the main producers
of The Family Film Productions in New York. Guerrilla filmmaking
exhausted her so she returned to her primary passion, journalism,
although she couldn't give up movies completely. She is the director of
the documentary feature Surviving Amina, which has been selected in
festivals such as Seminci, Fidocs, DocsDF, Visions du Reel, New
Filmmakers NY and others since 2010. Barbara Celis is also the
recipient of the 2009 USC/Getty Arts Journalism Fellowship.
