Hell on Wheels, Season 4, Episode 4, “Reckoning”
Written by Jennifer Cecil

What people are willing to do in order to survive has always been a driving force for Hell on Wheels. It’s been there from the beginning, often used as a stepping stone to something else. Season four has made this concept the show’s main focus. Cullen (Anson Mount) has, from day one, been a brutal man, walking a dangerous line between morality and survival. Really, most of the show’s characters have. How cruel and far away from humanity can one person get all in the name of survival?
We see this idea littered all over “Reckoning”. Durant (Colm Meaney) is willing to bet on Cullen again because he knows that Cullen is his best option. Campbell (Jake Weber) is another great example. He has set about...

Will Obamacare become plot fodder for CBS’ Hostages and Under The Dome? A $500,000 grant awarded this week to USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center’s Hollywood Health & Society program certainly suggests it’s a possibility. In the latest push to get Tinseltown to promote President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the decade-old program has received the money from the private California Endowment to give Hollywood producers, writers and execs details about the newly launched health insurance initiative. “Our experience has shown that the public gets just as much, if not more, information about current events and important issues from their favorite television shows and characters as they do from the news media and online resources,” said Hollywood Health & Society’s Martin Kaplan in a statement today. “This grant will allow us to ensure that industry practitioners have up-to-date, relevant facts on health care reform to integrate into their storylines and projects.

ABC’s Private Practice will come back in the fall without its original male lead. Tim Daly tweeted late last night that his option for Season 6 of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff created/exec produced by Shonda Rhimes was not picked up. “Wonderful fans of Ppp,” he wrote. “Shonda informed my agent today that Pete won’t be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.” The renewal of Private Practice came down to the wire and is for 13 episodes that could be the show’s last, though no final decision has been made. The series also is undergoing a major change behind the scenes where co-executive producers Jennifer Cecil and Barbie Kligman have been promoted to executive producers/co-head writers, replacing Steve Blackman and Craig Turk. In the fifth season finale, Daly’s character Pete Wilder is sent to jail for euthanizing a patient.
