- Henry Neil "Soapy" Castles was a driver in NASCAR's Grand National (now Winston Cup) Series in the 1950s through the 70s. He started 497 races in NASCAR's top division. In 1972 he won the Grand National East division championship and was voted the series most popular driver. - He and wife Jean filed suit against Exxon in 1995 claiming that a petroleum leak contaminated the ground water under their Paw Creek, NC business. A jury awarded $500,000 damage to the couple, but the judge declared that the evidence did not support the jury's reward. The Castles appealed and the settlement was reinstated in early 2000.
