Indie filmmaker Jean-Claude Lamarre ("Gang of Roses," "Color of the Cross") is planning "Chocolate City," a project that is best described as an African-American take on the male stripper film "Magic Mike".
Michael Jai White ("Black Dynamite") and model-turned-actor Tyson Beckford are in negotiations to star in the tale of Devin, a young college student struggling to make ends meet who is convinced to give amateur night at a male strip club a whirl.
White will play the owner of the club who does the job of convincing Devin to give it a try. Beckford will play the club's former star attraction whose popularity is fading. There's also a subplot of Devin's religious upbringing and how it clashes with his newfound career.
Lamarre penned, will direct and is also slated to produce alongside Gabriel Casseus, Robert Aaronson and Rozina Negusei. The filmmaker says: "I researched the male exotic club scene...

In the first story, a man is assaulted in Central Park, leading to a mounted police officer intervening and is shot. The horse escapes but is run over by a taxi and is still alive. Flack (Eddie Cahill) says he heard the shot from 6th Ave and it shook the windows of his car. Mac (Gary Sinise) explains it was the echo from the weapon, as if Flack wouldn't know that already. The policeman was shot through the back and through his vest by a sniper. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Aiden (Vanessa Ferlito) process the scene in search of the elusive bullet. Mac finds a mobile/cell phone, but no bullet and Danny takes the tapes from the cameras. Hawkes (Hill Harper) deduces the Cod was a single Gsw to the back, which left through the front, from a high powered rifle. His vest is examined to see where the...

Lisa Soltau was living in Seattle when her friend Bonnie Gillespie sent her a book she had written called "Casting Qs," a compilation of interviews with casting directors. "I read it and I absolutely loved all the aspects of the job," says Soltau. "I loved the entertainment industry and movies and television. The process of casting sounded wonderful."She called one of the two casting offices in Seattle and ended up working as an intern there for about six months. But the CD told her she should move to New York or Los Angeles if she really wanted to pursue a career in casting. "I picked L.A. because I had lived there once for about three years and I thought it would be easier to acclimate there," Soltau says. "Plus I wanted to work on 'Six Feet Under,' which was airing at the time.

Chicago – The ensemble cast is decent, the story fits the action/adventure essence of the heist film and one of the hottest music stars of the moment, Tip “T.I.” Harris, has a prominent role. Then why is the new film “Takers” such a seen-it-all-before exercise in action blandness? It feels like a total waste of all those resources.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Four writers were necessary to pen the screenplay regarding a gang of robbers – including Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown and Paul Walker – who keep a low profile by doing only one prominent and well-planned heist a year. The film takes great pains to show the sophistication of the gang in general, showcasing an unnecessary debate on foreign currency investment and plenty of expensive cigars. What it doesn’t express is why we should care or consider them anti-heroes.

irector: John Luessenhop Writer(s): Peter Allen, Gabriel Casseus, John Luessenhop, Avery Duff Starring: Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, Michael Ealy, Idris Elba, T.I., Jay Hernandez, Paul Walker They take; in other words, they are thieves. That’s the premise of this breakneck tale of cops and robbers by fledging director John Luessenhop. Takers is the latest summer blockbuster extravaganza to glorify violence and promote it as a viable lifestyle. It’s a film that looks like a beer commercial, only with cracking gunfire, jerky foot chases, and criminals made out to be the good guys. It’s a not-so-neatly packaged whirlwind fiasco that rips off Heat, Ocean’s Eleven, and yes, even Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We’ve got our thieves: a band of slick-dressed, smooth-talking badasses that are looking for the next big heist. Luessenhop starts us off with these fellows robbing a bank,...

Filmed over a decade ago, writer/director William Jennings’ Harlem Aria is advertised as a tale about dreams, self-destruction, redemption and opera. However, after seeing it, you realize that the film is mostly a showcase for Executive Producer Damon Wayans to chew the scenery and showcase his talents. This would be fine if his performance wasn’t to the detriment of the rest of the cast. However it is, and even the main character seems to get lost in the wake of Wayans’ greedy portrayal of a homeless hustler. The only thing that survives his incessant scene stealing is the wonderful opera tunes.
Anton (Gabriel Casseus) is a sweet but simple savant in the mold of Forrest Gump. He has the habit of believing the best in everyone and trusts what everyone tells him. Anton lives with his caring but unintentionally smothering Aunt (Eyde Byrde) who treats him like a child.

Harlem Aria is the story of Anton, a young man with a gift, sheltered all his life; an easy target.
Harlem Aria is the story of Matthew, a young man who finally got lucky; a helping hand.
Harlem Aria is the story of Wes, a young man who no longer believes in luck.
Movies like Harlem Aria succeed when we become afraid for its players; when we find ourselves anticipating the worst, even through our half-hearted understanding of the people involved. I’ve now seen Harlem Aria twice, months apart, and in both instances, the initially hesitant crowd has been worked into a frenzy of laughter, gasps, and tears. Its greatest strength, though, is how seamlessly director William Jennings intertwines these emotional responses. A quarter of the way through, you may feel like you know every bit of who these people are, what they have been through, and what they are capable of.

The desire to be an opera singer is a career path that the broad majority of Americans would probably treat with some skepticism. If you come from Harlem, that skepticism is probably more palpable than most places. Yet the protagonist of Bill Jennings’ winning first feature Harlem Aria finds himself in just such a predicament. Anton (Gabriel Casseus), a dim-witted, twentysomething Harlemite who launders clothes for a living and resides with his overbearing grandmother, is determined to do just that. Despite the bullying of local teens and the entreaties from a local drug dealer (Malik Yoba) to work for him, Anton pursues his dream with aplomb and in the process gains a pair of unlikely allies: Wes (a terrific Damon Wayons), an...

Starring as a member of skilled bank robbers in action film "Takers", Chris Brown apparently does some of the stunt works himself. His co-star in the upcoming movie, Matt Dillon, unraveled the fact when talking to MTV News in a recent interview. "He's, like, jumping over cars," the older actor gushed. "He did a lot of stunts."
Recalling the filming of some scenes he shared with Brown, Dillon who plays a detective in the movie detailed, "The stuff I did with Chris Brown is chasing him though the streets for eight days straight. It was, like, nonstop." The Academy Award-nominated actor went on to praise the singer, saying "This guy is such a good athlete."
Dillon is not the only "Takers" star who has good words for the 20-year-old. Co-star Michael Ealy, who takes on the role of Brown's older brother, also spoke up about the "I Can Transform Ya" singer.

Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan will be three of the lead voices in G-Force, for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
Bill Nighy and Will Arnett also have joined the ranks of the human actors in the live-action/CG film, which marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winning visual effects innovator Hoyt Yeatman.
The story follows a group of ultra-intelligent animal commandoes who work for a government agency trying to prevent an evil billionaire from taking over the world. Cage will play Speckles, a mole; Buscemi will portray Bucky, a hamster; and Morgan will voice Blaster, a guinea pig. Nighy will portray an industrialist, and Arnett will play an FBI agent.
Live-action leads also include Zach Galifianakis, Kelli Garner, Gabriel Casseus and Jack Conley.
Production is currently under way in Los Angeles. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing. Executive producing are Bruckheimer Films' Mike Stenson and Chad Oman, along with Duncan Henderson.
"It's a good story; it's unique characters, it's half animation, half live action," Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter.

From the characters' names (Jack Crews, Red, Earl, Sonny) to the preposterous plot to the numerous chases and fatal crashes, "Black Dog" wags its hoary, tough-underdog-puts-pedal-to-the-metal tale with no verve or veracity.
Even the hard-core bubba crowd is likely to pass this one up despite a country music soundtrack and the casting of Randy Travis in a major role. The Universal release's sole attraction is a few amazing shots of big rigs flying through the air, falling off mountain roads and smashing into things, usually in slow motion.
With little to do but look mean, bark a few orders and growl at his foes, lead Patrick Swayze as former con Crews is well-groomed for this sort of dogfight, but he's inexplicably leashed for most of it. Trying to go straight after serving time for vehicular manslaughter, the trucker takes on a risky job for money needed to pay an overdue mortgage.
His amiable spouse (Brenda Strong) makes a feeble attempt to stop him from hauling a truckload of illegal arms from Atlanta to New Jersey. But the lack of a driver's license and immediate doubts about all parties involved are not enough to deter Jack.
The title refers to a nighttime apparition that causes overworked, "greedy" drivers to crash, which is what happened to tough-luck case Jack. With such a back-story hounding him, he feels twice as challenged, but he's a gullible gorilla to boot.
Recruited by his shady boss Cutler (Graham Beckel) and flown to Georgia, Jack meets Bible-quoting middleman Red (Meat Loaf) and his pack of hired curs, including would-be singer-songwriter Earl (Travis, ha-ha), amiable dreamer Sonny (Gabriel Casseus) and shifty lowlife Wes (Brian Vincent).
Unbeknownst to Jack, Cutler, Red, et al., squabbling FBI and ATF agents (Charles Dutton and Stephen Tobolowsky) are tracking the shipment in an attempt to nab the buyer. Red makes the first move, attempting to "hijack the load" in ambushes involving cars, trucks and motorcycles.
In an ungainly development, Jack, Earl, Sonny and Wes become allies. Slimy Cutler takes Jack's wife and daughter hostage, leaving our hero no choice but to complete the job. After one of his road pals turns out to be an undercover agent and dies, Jack comes up with a plan to save his family and make the world a safer place.
Director Kevin Hooks ("Fled") and cinematographer Buzz Feitshans IV shift into overdrive for the action scenes, but otherwise the wide-screen production is visually undistinguished. Similarly, the screenplay credited to William Mickelberry and Dan Vining is laughably generic, with light humor that usually doesn't work and such dreadfully banal ideas as having Meat Loaf's character toss off lines from the scriptures as he tries to ram Jack with a succession of bigger red chariots.
