Most fans of the original comedy classic "Friday" and its subsequent sequels might assume that star Ice Cube actually stepped behind the camera to direct one, if not all, of the entries in his beloved neighborhood stoner trilogy. But in fact, he didn't direct a single installment in the franchise. Ice Cube did try his hand at directing in the late '90s with "Players Club," a story about a single mother who turns to the underworld of exotic dance to make ends meet.
Aside from an ESPN episode of "30 for 30" about the Oakland Raiders' move to Los Angles in 1982, "Players Club" is the only directing credit for Cube, who prefers to share the limelight with other directors. This is especially true with the "Friday" series where the rap mogul liked hiring first-time directors. Telling SPLICEDwire in an interview conducted right when "Friday After Next" was being released,...

If you just watched the premiere of Disney Channel’s Freaky Friday and thought star Heidi Blickenstaff looked right at home in the role of straight-laced Katherine Blake, it’s because she is.

August 10 will be Freaky Friday for Disney Channel. The cable net has set that midsummer date for the premiere of its musical version of the classic mother-daughter body-swap.
Directed by Steve Carr, the latest take on Mary Rodgers’ classic book stars Heidi Blickenstaff, who played the mom role in the stage version, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff of the Dolphin Tale films as the bickering mother and daughter who both wish they could switch places with the other for a day. But be careful what you wish for: they magically wake up one freaky Friday in each other’s body and begin a journey of self-discovery and empathy neither one could have imagined.
Disney also made Freaky Friday theatrical features in 1976 starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, and in 2003 with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Its 1995 telefilm version starred Gaby Hoffmann and Shelley Long.

As far as comedy films go, Paul Blart: Mall Cop is already pretty dramatic. It’s about criminals taking over a mall and the one mustachioed, Segway-riding security guard who can stop them, but it’s still somehow even less funny than that makes it sound. Perhaps the problem, then, isn’t that Paul Blart wasn’t funny enough to be a good comedy, but that it shouldn’t have been a comedy in the first place. It already has the makings of a standard Die Hard plot, so maybe director Steve Carr should’ve just leaned into that and made a serious action flick that just happens to star Kevin James instead.
Thankfully, CineFix’s Trailer Mix video series is here to show us what that would’ve been like, and the results are surprisingly good. Well, more like comparatively good, as it’s not really much of a...

I absolutely hated middle school a.k.a. junior high. Those two years were seriously some of the worst of my life. I'm seriously surprised that I survived that insanity. There's now a movie coming out that pays tribute to the awfulness of those years. It's called Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life and today we have an entertaining new trailer for you to watch. The movie looks pretty good, and this is the synopsis for it:
Rafe has an epic imagination...and a slight problem with authority. Both collide when he transfers to an oppressive, rule-crazy middle school. Drowning in do's and don'ts, Rafe and his scheming best friend Leo hatch a plan to break every rule in the school's Code of Conduct. It's Ferris Bueller meets Home Alone as their battle with Principal Dwight explodes into chaos both real and imagined. But Dwight displays his own fiendish creativity,...

Based on the book by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life is the next in the line of films featuring kids taking control of their world.
Rafe (Griffin Gluck) is heading into middle school, and he finds himself in the world of Principal Dwight (Andy Daly), who runs a tight ship, and has an overabundance of rules. Rafe and his friends put together a plan to break every rule Principal Dwight has, but he has to keep his plans, and rule-breaking, from his mom (Lauren Graham).
While this one looks like a lot of fun for younger audiences, its success probably rests on Daly’s shoulders, and he’s a great choice for the role. The “bad guy” in such a film can easily go too cartoony, and though Daly could probably aim for that if he wanted to, his work on things...

"Creativity has no place in this school." CBS Films has debuted a second full-length trailer for the movie Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, an adaptation of the bestselling book series of the same name. Young actor Griffin Gluck stars as Rafe Katchadorian, a boy with a "wild imagination" bored of middle school who decides to break every rule and see what happens, bringing his friends with him. The full cast includes Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle, Thomas Barbusca, Andy Daly, Adam Pally, and Efren Ramirez. This actually looks really fun, especially disregarding the rules and messing with expectations. I'm sure if I were younger I'd enjoy it even more, but still, it looks pretty good. Whoever called them the wonder years clearly wasn’t privy to CBS Films’ latest feature length venture, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.” Based on the hit “Middle School” book series by James Patterson and featuring a script by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the film, from director Steve Carr (“Paul Blart: Mall Cop”), centers on Rafe Khatchadorian’s trying times studying and surviving at Hills Village Middle School. He and his friends are faced with battling bullies, hormones, and a “tyrannical principal,” so no doubt there’s some “Matilda”-esque adventure to be had. Are you sitting down? Are you ready for this? Promise not to poop yourself with excitement: there's a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop coming out. Columbia Pictures (via Variety) has officially announced that April 17, 2015 is the landing point for the continuing saga of Blart, the defender of the mall. The original was helmed by Steve Carr (Daddy Day Care) but this installment falls under the leadership of Parental Guidance steward Andy Fickman. The hope is that they'll preserve the dignity and continuity of the first film, which saw James as the titular security guard helping to defend the mall from criminals. This time around, Blart is at a security convention when...

Kevin James' "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" hit theaters almost exactly four years ago and went on to become a surprise hit by grossing $183 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of only $26 million. The comedy wasn't liked by critics, with a current RottenTomatoes rating sitting at 33%. But it's difficult to ignore the box office results, which is why Sony Pictures ha announced that it's moving forward with a sequel. James is set to return as Paul Blart. He will once again co-write the script with Nick Bakay. Steve Carr, who directed the original, will not return. The studio is now in talks with Andy Fickman (The Game Plan) to replace him. The plan is to begin shooting in April.

James will reprise his role as the bumbling, segway-riding security officer and will also co-write the script with Nick Bakay, the same writer/actor with whom James penned the original. James will also produce the sequel alongside Adam Sandler and Todd Garner.
Meanwhile, Paul Blart: Mall Cop director Steve Carr is not returning for the sequel, so the reins are being handed over to director Andy Fickman, who previously helmed several family comedies with a high quotient of slapstick, such as Parental Guidance, She’s the Man and The Game Plan.

As though this polar vortex nonsense wasn't bad enough, word has come out that Sony Pictures is planning to move forward with a Paul Blart: Mall Cop sequel. 2014 is proving to be a real punch in the teeth so far. THR reports Sony is in talks with Andy Flickman to helm the Paul Blart: Mall Cop sequel, leaving the first film's director, Steve Carr, out in the cold. Kevin James will reprise his role as the titular mall security officer, and he's once again written the script with Nick Bakay. No details are available regarding what kind of misadventures and mayhem this mediocre mall cop will get up to this time. But we do know James will produce alongside returning producers Todd Garner and Adam Sandler of Happy Madison. It's not said why Carr, who previously helmed comedies like Are We Done Yet? and Daddy Day Care, won't be back...

Because torturing audiences with films like Here Comes the Boom, Zookeeper, The Dilemma and two Grown Ups films wasn't enough, Kevin James is bringing back his painfully stupid Paul Blart: Mall Cop for a completely unnecessary sequel at Sony Pictures. It's unclear just what will happen this time, but the comedy is said to take the bumbling security guard on another adventure. James will co-write the sequel again with the first film's co-writer Nick Bakay. However, Steve Carr couldn't be coaxed into this disaster, so the studio hired the "talents" of Andy Fickman, the man behind Parental Guidance and She's the Man. THR reports Adam Sandler is producing with Todd Garner by way of his Happy Madison banner again. It seems appropriate that despite turning towards more substantial pieces of filmmaking like The Cobbler with Thomas McCarthy, Sandler is still helping to churn out pure garbage. James is also producing...

The new comedy "Movie 43" weaves a bunch of different stories together from 12 different directors, including Peter Farrelly ("Dumb and Dumber") and Steve Carr ("Next Friday"). The vague trailer makes it difficult to figure out what the heck the movie is really about, but it all seems to be part of the master plan. And, the Nsfw website — whatismovie43.com — includes some raunchy clips that prove the ensemble cast isn't trying to make it the next "Valentine's Day."
Boasting one of the largest round-ups of famous peeps in one film, the cast features everyone from Halle Berry, Seth MacFarlane and Hugh Jackman, to Kate Winslet, Anna Faris and Emma Stone. While none of them were actually at the premiere, we were there to talk to some of the other cast members — and other folks on the red carpet — about what's the most inappropriate thing they've ever seen online.

Following his impressionistic look at the meaning of human existence in 2011's The Tree of Life, filmmaker Terrence Malick has broken his habit of vanishing from the movie scene for many years by bringing us To The Wonder.
Written and directed by Malick and arriving in UK cinemas on February 22, it stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem.
A new poster (above) has been issued for the film, which is officially described as follows:
To The Wonder is the beautiful and acclaimed latest offering from Terrence Malick, the legendary director of The Tree of Life, Badlands and Days of Heaven.
The film is centred on Neil (Ben Affleck, Argo), a man who is torn between two loves: Marina (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace), the European woman who comes to United States to be with him, and Jane (Rachel McAdams, Midnight in Paris), the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown.

Coming from the producer of the Farrelly brothers’ comedies There’s Something About Mary and Dumb & Dumber and from producer Peter Farrelly himself, Movie 43 is billed as shockingly disturbing. But whilst it might not live up to that hype (we’ll have to wait till February to find out here in the UK), what the film does have is a fantastic ensemble cast, including: Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Kieran Culkin, Anna Faris, Terrence Howard, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Justin Long, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloë Grace Moretz, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Thurman, and Kate Winslet.
But its not only in front of the camera that features a great ensemble, behind the camera are Steven Brill, Peter Farrelly, Will Graham, Steve Carr, Griffin Dunne, James Duffy, Jonathan Van Tulleken, Elizabeth Banks, Patrik Forsberg, Brett Ratner, Rusty Cundieff, and James Gunn! Movie 43 will be released on January 25th.

The anticipated ensemble comedy Movie 43 hits theatres next weekend, and with possibly the biggest and best assembled cast of all time, we didn’t think things could get much bigger or better. But this latest TV spot reveals something that makes it that much more of a must-see comedy: Seth MacFarlane.
We were treated to a great new TV spot yesterday, giving us sixty seconds of comedy goodness, and this new TV spot brings with it new footage aplenty, including a look at Seth MacFarlane, Common, Dennis Quaid, and Greg Kinnear, with the involvement of all four being until-now unannounced. Which begs the question, do we have more surprises in store for us when Movie 43 lands next week?
