This article contains spoilers for "I.S.S."
One of the first major theatrical releases of 2024 is the sci-fi thriller "I.S.S." With a minimal cast and an intriguing premise, the film essentially plays out like a slasher film in space where nobody can trust anyone else, and everyone is at risk of dying. It's a lethal, twist-filled ride at the International Space Station and, as anyone might have guessed from the trailers alone, not everyone is going to make it out alive.
The ending of the film leaves much to discuss as it arguably leaves viewers with more questions than it does provide answers. Who survived? What fate awaits those survivors? What is happening on Earth? What about the cure for radiation sickness? We're going to talk about it and try to get to the bottom of it all. Let's get into it.

Watching the science-fiction space thriller I.S.S., I couldn’t help but get the feeling that maybe this claustrophobic and talky material might be better suited as a stage play than as a movie, where audiences might be anticipating something a bit more compelling along the lines of a Gravity or an Alien.
Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s competent direction of Nick Shafir’s Black List script never manages to set the screen on fire as it is more focused on the increasingly tense relations between two trios – one American astronauts, the other Russian cosmonauts — aboard the International Space Station just as war between the two countries breaks out on Earth, causing great complication and conflict for the six.
Spending too long to get this 95-minute space opera rolling, we meet the various players including Dr. Kira Foster (Ariana DeBose), the newest arrival, joining with Commander Gordon (Chris Messina) and the slippery...

Astronauts Dr. Kira Foster (Ariana DeBose) and Christian Campbell (10 Cloverfield Lane’s John Gallagher Jr.) barely settle into their new posts aboard the I.S.S. before war breaks out on Earth. The shocking display of bombs peppering the stratosphere comes with covert orders to take control of the International Space Station by any means necessary, instantly sowing the seeds of mistrust and paranoia in a claustrophobic thriller that favors suspense over complexity or depth.
Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Blackfish), working from a script by Nick Shafir, helms the thriller with a lean efficiency that puts the claustrophobic paranoia at the forefront. Through audience proxy Dr. Foster, I.S.S. quickly introduces the already established crew accustomed to cohabitating in their zero gravity quarters that includes fellow American Gordon Barrett and Russians Weronika Vetrov (Masha Mashkova), Nicholai Pulov (Costa Ronin), and Alexei Pulov. The broad brush strokes of how this group interacts and their...

A battle for control of the International Space Station is the focus of director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s sci-fi thriller I.S.S. The infinity of space provides the backdrop for Cowperthwaite’s film, which restricts the action to the space station and the combatants to just six.
The six include three Americans – played by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Chris Messina (The Boogeyman), and John Gallagher Jr. (Gaslight) – and three Russians – played by Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Masha Mashkova (For All Mankind), and Costa Ronin (The Americans). Of the six, only DeBose’s character, Dr. Kira Foster, is an I.S.S. newbie. Four of the astronauts/cosmonauts are already on board the station when she arrives. And her traveling companion, Gallagher’s Christian Campbell, has previous experience living in the structure that serves as an orbiting scientific laboratory.

Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) stars as an American astronaut onboard the International Space Station as World War III breaks out on Earth. The official trailer for I.S.S. reveals the destruction of our planet leads to the I.S.S. American and Russian occupants waging war in space.
In addition to Ariana DeBose as Dr. Kira Foster, the sci-fi thriller stars John Gallagher Jr. as Christian Campbell, Masha Mashkova as Weronika Vetrov, Pilou Asbæk as Alexey Pulov, Costa Ronin as Nicholai Pulov, and Chris Messina as Gordon Barrett.
“Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth. Reeling from this, the astronauts receive orders from the ground: take control of the station by any means necessary,” reads Bleecker Street’s synopsis. “Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, working with Nick Shafir’s Blacklist script, brings together a stellar cast that includes Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose,...

“Indie sci-fi thriller” aren’t words we get to say often enough, even if the reason why is obvious: Making aliens, rocket ships, and the cold vacuum of space look real is expensive. Tribeca Film Festival offering “I.S.S.” avoids that issue by taking place entirely aboard the International Space Station, which becomes the staging ground for a proxy war when a nuclear conflict breaks out between America and Russia. That premise wouldn’t have been out of place in a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury, and “Our Friend” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, working from a Black List script by Nick Shafir, comes close to maximizing its potential with help from a stellar ensemble led by Ariana DeBose and Chris Messina.
The six-member crew is evenly divided among astronauts and cosmonauts: Dr. Kira Foster (DeBose), Gordon Barrett (Messina) and Christian Campbell (John Gallagher Jr.) on one side, Weronika...

In the expanding universe that is science fiction cinema, I.S.S. (International Space Station) directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and penned by Nick Shafir makes a solid new entry into the genre. While the performances from its stars, Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, John Gallagher Jr, Masha Mashkova, Costa Ronin and Pilou Asbæk, are rather stiff, at its heart, I.S.S. is an imaginative yet bare-bones thriller that makes an impact with its limited space and budget.
Dr. Kira Foster (DeBose) and scientist Christian Campbell (Gallagher) are astronauts headed to the International Space Station. They are welcomed by a group of Russians scientists, Weronika Vetrov (Mashkova), Alexy Pulov (Asbæk) and Nicholai Pulov (Ronin), and another American, Gordon Barrett (Messina), who are already stationed there. Kira is there to test how zero-gravity effects regenerative medicine but isn’t adjusting as quickly as she thought and has to get used to constantly floating throughout space.

While the Cold War has long been over a second one brews between the USA and Russia inside “I.S.S.,” Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s frustratingly broad yet stylish space thriller that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Considering the growing political tensions between the two countries today, this is a movie one might be tempted to adorn with adjectives such as “timely” and “urgent.” Except “I.S.S.”—a title inexplicably fashioned with three periods—is too generic a genre exercise to matter, one that vaguely orbits notions such as trust, selflessness, teamwork and the hazards of blind nationalism with the most simplistic messages to transmit about them.
Working from a Blacklist script by debuting screenwriter Nick Shafir, Cowperthwaite’s pressure-cooker outing is set sometime in the near future, introducing us via an efficient title card to the brief history of the International Space Station (Iss), founded decades ago...

By Peter BelsitoThis very internal subjective psychological drama features rising indie star Joslyn Jensen (‘Without’, ‘Driftwood’) ) as ambitious young composition student Malorie who has her creative juices sucked right out of her by the testosterone-stuffed New York academy where she studies for her PhD.
She is justly upset by the crass and demeaning treatment she is given there.
After being put down and losing access to the all-female scholarship she is finding no more energy to even feel inspired, and then she starts visiting strangers in the city for sex and pay
With lace-wearing Malorie absurdly out of place at first but pushed beyond her narrow confines by curiosity and boredom, she realizes that these commercial sexual encounters inspire her in the most unexpected manner as she starts to hear music during these commercial sex acts.
This is both comical and serious at first, as she decides she must write...

In this exclusive clip from Stephan Littger’s debut feature film “Her Composition," Malorie (Joslyn Jensen) discovers a new side to her sexuality that will launch her journey of musical discovery. Throughout her frenzied sensual journey sleeping with random clients during which she has random musical experiences, she will leave behind the confines of the status quo that had enchained her creative self. Her clients become the collective muse for her new composition.
Beautifully shot (Andres Karu) with a magical score by Christopher Libertino, Littger’s stunningly self-assured directorial debut asks fundamental questions by deconstructing the traditional three-act structure through the body of a woman on her journey to creative emancipation. Edgy and controversial, will Malorie for the first time create something that truly reflects her creative self or is she merely on an express path to insanity?
“I was attracted to the idea of a narrative that sounds traditional, even sexist at first but turns out to be exactly the opposite by questioning Hollywood gender roles and empowering a young artist who turns the tables on the men she meets -- and therefore audience expectations.” Littger says of the inspiration behind this movie. “In that sense, I am Malorie and Malorie is all of us who feel we have a voice and want to get it out there. And it’s incredibly hard and you need to find that non-judgmental space in the world that allows you to do that. In our private screenings so far, the reactions have been particularly exciting to me as author as every audience member raises infinitely insightful points about Malorie’s journey and her challenges. While there’s definitely also a strong political dimension to it, above all I want to entertain. It wouldn’t work any other way.”
After Austin Film Festival, the film will have its international premiere at Whistler Film Festival in early December. Jensen is supported by a stellar supporting cast featuring Christian Campbell (“Trick”), Heather Matarazzo (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”), comedian Rachel Feinstein (“Trainwreck”) and Margot Bingham (“Boardwalk Empire”). The voice of Oscar-nominated Executive Producer René Bastian (“Transamerica”) is felt throughout.

Premiering in competition at the 22nd Austin Film Festival, Stephan Littger's debut feature Her Composition stars one of my favorite indie actors Joslyn Jensen (Without, Funny Bunny) as talented but socially awkward composition student Malorie, who starts visiting high-end escort clients on her quest for overcoming writer's block. Littger's darkly comical and often surreal tale sees Malorie turning each client into yet another layer of her composition, positioning the unsuspecting viewer into silent co-conspirators along with her. Apart from a stellar lead, supporting actors Christian Campbell (Trick), Margot Bingham (Boardwalk Empire), Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse) and comedian Rachel Feinstein round up the cast. Executive Producer is Oscar-nominated René Bastian (Transamerica).Ahead of its premiere at the Hideout theater, Friday, October 30 at 6pm, Twitch...

Title: Among Ravens Directors: Randy Redroad and Russell Friedenberg Starring: Amy Smart, Joshua Leonard, Will McCormack, Victoria Smurfit, Johnny Sequoyah, Christian Campbell, Natalie Imbruglia, Russell Friedenberg, Calum Grant, Castille Landon “I’m lost in all this bullshit – I don’t even know who I am anymore!” screams a character late in “Among Ravens,” and at no point in the 103-minute running time of this dysfunctional-family drama does an audience member feel more of a surge of empathetic identification and crystal-clear truth. Co-directed by Randy Redroad and Russell Friedenberg, this indie film is an achingly pretentious turd-burger, through and through. “Among Ravens” unfolds during an annual July 4 party hosted by Wendy (Amy Smart) and [ Read More ]

Among Ravens isn’t nearly as deep as it thinks it is. Centering on a group of friends who reunite at a lakehouse for their annual Fourth of July get-together, it shoots for the wit and profundity of The Big Chill, but as the film progresses, it soon becomes clear that directors Russell Friedenberg and Randy Redroad are grappling around in the dark for a greater meaning that they lack the ability to articulate. So, instead of providing coherent ideas about the nature of aging, marriage, happiness and family, Among Ravens plays in disappointingly shallow waters, presenting viewers with one-note characters and a borderline nauseating amount of clunky bird metaphors. Unfortunately, just because it sounds profound, that doesn’t mean it actually is.
On hand to provide some of the film’s most aggravatingly artificial lines is Joey (Johnny Sequoyah), a 10-year-old girl whose development literally begins and ends at precocious.

Today, We Got This Covered is happy to bring you an exclusive look at Gravitas’ upcoming comedic drama Among Ravens, which will be releasing on-demand and in theaters on July 18th. In the clip, characters Wendy (Amy Smart) and Emma (Victoria Smurfit) examine an elusive art gallery piece and discuss Emma’s reaction to her husband Saul (Russell Friedenberg) suddenly wanting to have children. The scene seems a good indicator of Among Ravens as a whole, spicing a very serious and sad topic with some much-appreciated humor.
Though Among Ravens has flown under the radar, it looks like quite an interesting and enjoyable watch, especially when you consider the film’s impressive cast. In addition to Smart, Smurfit and Friedenberg, young Believe actress Johnny Sequoyah, Joshua Leonard, Will McCormack, Christian Campbell and Natalie Imbruglia have roles. The official synopsis reads as follows:

J.P. Pitoc and Christian Campbell in Trick
Boy meets go-go boy and they try to find a place to hook-up…
That’s the basic premise of Trick, but if you’ve seen the beloved 1999 film, you know it’s actually a sweet and charming romantic comedy that has endured and is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year.
In the New York-based film, directed by Jim Fall and written by Jason Schafer, Gabriel (Christian Campbell) first sees go-go boy Mark (J.P. Pitoc) shaking it at a local gay bar, but a chance meeting on the subway later takes them on an all-night adventure that goes from a piano bar, Tori Spelling (who played Gabriel’s Bff, Katherine), a dance club and Gabriel’s memorable bathroom interaction with none other than Miss Coco Peru.

Elementary, Season 2, Episode 3, “We Are Everyone”
Written by Craig Sweeny
Directed by Michael Pressman
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Est on CBS
This week, on Elementary: Joan tries out a dating site, Sherlock puts a shoe on his head, and they both get hacked
“We Are Everyone” continues Elementary’s strong start to its second season, with a fun case of the week and interesting character moments for both Joan and Sherlock. It’s been interesting seeing such a minimized role for the NYPD characters, with Gregson and Bell only appearing significantly in one of the first three this season, but their slack is more than made up for this week by the examination of Joan and Sherlock’s lives, friendships, or lack thereof, and choices. Elementary doesn’t often rip from the headlines, Law & Order style, so their take on Anonymous and a Snowden-like figure is a fun change of pace.

The CW is planning a spin-off of Supernatural. Generally, I like the idea of a spin-off but it’s my least favorite kind: a backdoor pilot spin-off focusing on an a character we haven’t met yet. That character that will be introduced in the 20th episode of the upcoming season. Isn’t there enough depth to the Supernatural universe to create a series around an established character? I liked Christian Campbell‘s character — and the idea of Christian Campbell in a TV series with no awkward facial hair. On a more exciting note, Felicia Day will return as lesbian nerd Charlie.
I thought they’d make a fun spin-off when the episode originally aired.
Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is developing a comedy where she plays a fictionalized version of herself. As much as I’ve become weary about that particular genre,, it could be fun with a Spice...

We begin this evening’s Movie News After Dark shenanigans with Captain America stepping into the world of S.H.I.E.L.D for his tour in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It continues with plenty of movie chat, including great baseball flicks, Scary Movie 2, walking out of the theater and Vin Diesel driving a radio-controlled car. Or as we call it around here, just another Tuesday night. The Best Baseball Movies – The Playlist gets into the opening day spirit (and the fact that 42 is hitting theaters) with a list of great baseball movies. Yes, of course A League of Their Own is on there. I wouldn’t link to it, otherwise. Marry, F*ck, Kill with Elisabeth Moss – First, Mad Men uber-cutie Elisabeth Moss did a great photoshoot and interview with GQ. During which she played a game of “Marry, F*ck, Kill” with the men of Sterling Cooper Draper Price. Gosh-dammit...

St. Louis, Missouri. We open with a hooker in a cash transaction with her trick, while someone watches them from afar. The john leaves, and the watcher approaches her.
Turns out the watcher (Guest Star Christian Campbell – not to be confused with Sam and Dean’s d-bag cousin Christian Campbell who was ganked by Dean), is a cop, and it’s a bust. The cop handcuffs the girl... then grabs her throat.
Suddenly, he jerks awake, still remembering the pieces of his nightmare where he has envisions of himself literally tearing into the hooker’s throat with his bare hands.
In the dark bedroom, he looks around for his dog who whines in sympathy with its Master’s pains and climbs onto the bed with him.
The next morning, the cop gets up as usual and goes about preparing his coffee. As he about to chuck the coffee grounds into the trash,...

Supernatural Episode 8.15: Man’s Best Friend with Benefits– “Dean really doesn’t like witches — A police officer named Kevin (guest star Christian Campbell), who turned to witchcraft after working a case with Sam and Dean, is plagued by nightmares in which he murders innocent people. However, when the murders actually happen, Sam and Dean are called in by Kevin’s “familiar” (guest star Mishael Morgan) to help — but the brothers aren’t sure they want to save a witch.
