Throughout his adult life, he has worked in numerous media roles, ranging from radio broadcasting to film production, and achieved a small degree of notoriety in 1995 when he was abducted and beaten by agents of the Guatemalan Military Intelligence organization (G-2) while filming a documentary on human rights abuses in that country.
