[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Leftovers” through Season 3, Episode 5, “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World.”]
Immediate Reaction
When Damon Lindelof said “The Leftovers” had “more dongs than ‘Game of Thrones,'” oh boy did he ever mean it. Even before the massive, 11-hour, seaward orgy began, “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” kicked off with a buck naked French sailor running full speed down the narrow corridors of his ship, his penis bouncing between his legs in slow-motion. Rarely has the male body been celebrated so thoroughly on television, and we applaud the feminist spirit of Lindelof and director Nicole Kassell, who made sure for every bare-breasted woman with only a lion’s tail covering her backside, there was a man whose front-side tail was given the same unflinching attention.
But even more than the equality, we remain impressed — perhaps more so than ever — with how well “The Leftovers” blends absurdity with substance. Among the people in headdresses and people getting eating by lions (Ok,...

Keeping with the dark comic combination of doom and joy started with the Season 2 theme song, the first teaser for the final season of “The Leftovers” pairs an upbeat melody with one gloomy ending.
Could it really be any other way?
Showing the cast of characters staring up into the sky with concerned looks on their faces, the first teaser plays The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby” in the background…until it shows what they’re looking at… and then we understand the concern.

Special Mention: The Last Wave
Directed by Peter Weir
Written by Tony Morphett and Peter Weir
Australia, 1977
Genre: Psychological Thriller
The tagline reads, “The Occult Forces. The Ritual Murder. The Sinister Storms. The Prophetic Dreams. The Last Wave.”
Peter Weir follows up on his critically acclaimed masterpiece Picnic at Hanging Rock with this visually striking and totally engrossing surrealist psychological thriller. Much like Picnic, The Last Wave is built around a mystery that may have a supernatural explanation. And like many Peter Weir movies, The Last Wave explores the conflict between two radically different cultures- in this case, that of Aboriginal Australians and the white Europeans.
It is about a white lawyer, David Burton (Richard Chamberlain), whose seemingly normal life is rattled after he takes on a pro bono legal aid case to defend a group of Aborigines from a murder charge in Sydney. The mystery within the mystery surrounding...

Here's a late-breaking Christmas miracle from Raleigh, North Carolina. Shirley Ratcliff, 47, has worked at Bruegger's Bagels since 2006. She takes three different buses to work, so she'd been saving for a car - until she was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and had to spend the money on treatment instead. Luckily, her customers are her biggest fans. One of them, David Burton, organized a group of loyal customers - calling themselves the Shirley Fan Club - and began raising funds to get their favorite employee that car she so desperately wanted. "When I asked [people] to contribute, they didn't even blink.

On being surprised that her husband chose her instead of a long, tall Upper East Side lady:
"I would love to have long, thin arms, I really would but I don't. I can run a company, so maybe I am just going to have fatter arms and run a company wearing sleeves? That is my balance; nobody gets to have it all. I would take wearing sleeves and running a company. Not...

While looking dapper in colorful suits for the David Burton-shot spread, the 28-year-old actor shared details about his hit show and offered some advice about women.
"I learned women never want to hear they have big feet," Mr. Wolk explained. "That's no fun. So you always want to guess a size down. Be honest, but, ellipsis."

Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. Enjoy!
