Five years ago, with Beto O’Rourke mounting an electrifying campaign to unseat Ted Cruz from the U.S. Senate, Democrats seemed hopeful that the political winds were shifting in Texas to one day make it a purple state. He ultimately lost by 2.6 percent amid a record turnout for a mid-term election.
Since then, Democratic hopes for turning Texas into a swing state have diminished. In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump made gains with Hispanic voters. And the state legislature has become increasingly conservative with a host of bills signed this year by Republican Governor Greg Abbott that include barring public universities from creating Dei offices, banning transgender athletes from college sports, and restricting labor rights. In 2022, abortion was banned in the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Exclusive: The fourth and final season of Kit Williamson’s Emmy-nominated Lgbtq series Eastsiders will be available on Netflix on December 1.
Thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $140,000 from fans, Eastsiders, a co-production with Wolfe Video, will be back with a fourth season that picks up with the Silver Lake gang one year later. Executive produced by Williamson and his husband John Halbach, who also star, the six-episode Season 4 tackles heavy, adult-world questions like how do two human beings make love last? What does commitment really look like in a long-term relationship? And what unique challenges does a “gay marriage” present?
Cal (Williamson) and Thom (Van Hansis) are back home from Season 3’s cross-country road trip, still a couple but wondering if they are really just best friends with benefits. Douglas (Willam Belli) and Quincy (Stephen Guarino) are engaged to be married, but with very different ideas about what a gay wedding should be.

Tagline: "You Can't Run from a Nightmare!" Director/writer: Andrew Getty. Cast: Frederick Koehler, Sean Patrick Flanery, Dina Meyer and Brianna Brown. There is an old Latin saying: "de mortuis nihil nisi bonum." In English, "of the dead only say good things." However, this would do a disservice to the reader, when discussing Andrew Getty's The Evil Within. This billionaire's only film took fifteen years to complete, after experiencing: financial challenges, lawsuits and crew changes. The director, himself, would die just before completing this film. What is worse - the director was addicted to hard drugs - meth'. Only thanks to producer Michael Luceri was this title even completed. In The Evil Within, Dennis is doubly handicapped by both mental impairments and sociopathic tendencies. Actor Frederick Koehler plays Dennis expertly. But, the films' weak moral message dampens the enjoyment of the film. More of a thought experiment about altered reality,...

On July 1, my independently produced Lgbt series “EastSiders” made its debut on Netflix. This is the first time in the series’ four-year history that it has been made available internationally, with subtitles in more than a dozen languages. It’s been a long road from YouTube to Netflix, and looking back there were several key decisions we made that helped our show compete in an increasingly crowded space.
I wish I could say that I predicted this, that it was all part of some master plan, but the truth is I had no idea a series could have as many lives as “EastSiders” has had. My goals when I created the show were simple; I wanted to write, direct and star in a project and see it through to completion, because I had been involved in so many micro budget projects that never saw the light of day. So, here we have our third variation on what a Castle, P.I. episode can look like. First, he essentially “raced” to solve an NYPD murder before Beckett & Co. Then, he worked a case that...

It appears that there's still a lot of dirty laundry. Lifetime has renewed their Devious Maids TV show for a third season. The 13 new episodes will debut sometime next year.
Devious Maids revolves around a group of Latina maids who work in the Beverly Hills homes of wealthy and powerful families. [In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "The Whispers" (ABC - Midseason) The Pitch: "Scary Kids Are Scary." Quick Response: A couple people who watched this one early indicated that "The Whispers" was really scary. It's not. At all. It fulfills the mandate that preternaturally mature and solemn children are creepy. No question about that. Particular credit to Abby Ryder Fortson, who expertly plays the creepiest of several creepy kids in the pilot. But this is too much of a slow-burn to actually be scary in the slightest. It's a bit like BBC America's "Intruders" in that respect. But really, it's a lot like a lot of things you've seen before and it's like so many of those things that nothing feels fresh enough to be shocking. There's a lot of "Invasion" and "V" in the DNA here. And because it comes courtesy of Amblin TV, it's impossible not to think of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind...
