Barbra Streisand went deep, not shallow, in her song choices for a massive show Sunday night at London’s Hyde Park. As expected, or at least hoped for, the presence of Kris Kristofferson as an opening act on the bill did result in a “Star is Born” flashback, as the duo revived “Lost Inside of You,” a number from the 1976 movie that some fans insist should be an evergreen, too.
Following the obligatory rendition of “Evergreen” — the other song she co-wrote for the film in question — Streisand brought to the stage “one of my favorite leading men… Here’s a song that we sang together in the movie, right? I love this song,” she declared.
Although the song is unremittingly hopeful in its romanticism, there was added bittersweetness now as it began with the line, “Time has come again…” Streisand’s co-writer on the tune, Leon Russell, is no longer around.

Living in a world obsessed with celebrity when a star is singing on the stage it’s often them that get all the attention, neither they nor their managers would have it any other way really. In 20 Feet From Stardom though we take a look at the singers who often stand in the shadows, either happy to just have their chance to sing and do what they love, or maybe sharing a dream that one day they will be that person in the spotlight and fame will be theirs.
In many ways it’s sad that music is becoming too often about the show and less about the voices. The backing singers have a very important job and they often hold the song...

With the bulk of the Grammy Awards actually given out before the big show, some of the night's biggest contenders are out for an early lead as we head into the night's hotly contested categories: The Black Keys, Gotye, and the pairing of Jay-z and Kanye West can now call themselves double winners for the 2013 shinding, while promising nominees Frank Ocean and fun.--both highly favored to have big nights--are so far winless. Keep in mind, however, that none of Ocean's solo cateogries have been decided yet, so R&B's glory boy still has the opportunity for a clean sweep.
But on the flipside, Gotye has ruined fun.'s fun with a steal in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance ("Somebody That I Used To Know") as well as a win for Best Alternative Music Album. Elsewhere, Skrillex has taken double dance awards (Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica...

New York — Barbra Streisand was full of Brooklyn pride as she belted out well-known tunes with passion during a concert at the newly built Barclays Center.
Thursday night's three-hour show was Streisand's return to her hometown, where she's also performing Saturday on her "Back to Brooklyn" tour.
The 70-year-old told the crowd of 18,000 that the last time she performed solo in the New York City borough was "on somebody's stoop on Pulaski Street" as an 8-year-old.
She entered the stage in a shimmery black blazer and long skirt, holding her hands close to the microphone as she hit the right notes on more than two dozen songs, including "People," "Evergreen" and "The Way We Were."
"Hello Brooklyn," she yelled. "Who said you can't come home again, right? Just Thomas Wolfe."

“Hello, Brooklyn!” Barbra Streisand called out to her hometown’s swanky new Barclay’s Center early on in her three-plus hour concert. The last time she did a solo show in Brooklyn, she told the cheering crowd, was when she was 8 and singing on a stoop on Pulaski Street. Remember that, she asked her brother who was in the audience? (In case you’re wondering, he scored good seats, not great.) She looked singularly Streisandly, in a shiny black number that had enough sheer to show off those famous legs. “You like the dress?” she asked the crowd. “Good! Donna Karan!

New York — Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Liza Minnelli took turns singing songs by the late Marvin Hamlisch during a stirring memorial service for the composer on Tuesday.
Minnelli sang "If You Really Knew Me" from the musical "They're Playing My Song," Franklin gave a soulful rendition of "Nobody Does It Better" from the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me" and Streisand brought the crowd to its feet when she finished "The Way We Were" from the film of the same name.
The composer's wife of 26 years, Terre Hamlisch, welcomed the crowd.
"These are Marvin's melodies," she said. "Marvin Hamlisch lives in them. This is who Marvin Hamlisch was."
Hamlisch composed or arranged hundreds of scores for musicals and movies, including "A Chorus Line" on Broadway and the films "The Sting," "Sophie's Choice," "Ordinary People" and "The Way We Were." He died on Aug. 6 in Los Angeles at age 68 after a short illness.

There are many talented musicians in the world, but only a few can facet their talent like a diamond, achieve the highest level of performance skill, which the fans will admire. The world-renowned trumpeter Chris Botti is one such person. He told us about the characteristics of his style, tremendous self-discipline and incredible love for the public.
Chris, have you ever thought that the performance of famous trumpeter Miles Davis that you saw when you were a twelve-year-old boy would be the first step on the way to the brilliant career of a famous trumpeter?
Chris Botti: Yes, I knew right then that I wanted to be a jazz trumpeter. But, I really believe that there is a common thread for anyone who has 'made it', that when you’re not making it, you don’t tell yourself...

A Pre-Grammy Conversation with Bob Clearmountain
Mike Ragogna: Bob, here at the Grammys watching over the sonics of the Bruce Springsteen segment. What are some of the things you look out for when it comes to the right mix on Bruce?
Bob Clearmountain: The thing with Bruce, and any artist like Bruce, is that the most important thing is the song, getting across the meaning and the character of the song. Bruce is almost like an actor in that he creates a character for each of his songs. He wants to make sure that the narrative of the song comes across. It's no different here than it is with making records. There has to be no disconnect between that character you create and the narrative. Basically, that's what I look for. The rest of it is all making it sound good and as exciting as possible. The song he's...

HollywoodNews.com: Exclusive: Sting’s 60th birthday party at the Beacon Theater was a four hour celebration of the rock star’s career and songs with his own band and almost a dozen famous musicians performing his music. They included Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, Lady Gaga. Branford Marsalis, will.i.am, Mary J. Blige, Chris Botti, Jimmy Nail, and Met Opera star Bryn Terfel. The latter opened the second act of the show with a rendition of “Roxanne” certain to become part of pop history–it was hilarious and serious at the same time, and showed how Sting’s punkiest new wave music has resonance in many forms.
There were many extraordinary moments on stage and off, where documentary maker Joe Berlinger brought the primary member of the just released Memphis 3, Jason Baldwin. And there were also Robert Downey and his wife Susan (Downey was...

HollywoodNews.com: Just a few notes from all over: the lovely Mary Fickett, the wonderful veteran actress who played Ruth Martin on “All My Children,” died this week at age 83. She’d been with the show since day 1, in 1970, until Alzheimer’s forced her to retire about ten years ago. She won the first daytime Emmy award. As Ruth Martin, she was a stand in for the show’s creator, Agnes Nixon. Ruth was the conscience of the show, especially when her son went to fight in Vietnam. Ironically, “All My Children” ends its run next Friday after 41 years. Last year, a similar thing happened with Helen Wagner, the matriarch of “As the World Turns,” died right before that show concluded after 54 years. She was 93. I remember Ruth Martin from when I was in high school; Fickett was direct and never wavering in her delivery. She’s been missed the last few years…...
