COLOGNE -- Benjamin Heisenberg's Un Certain Regard entry "Sleeper", Mirko Borscht's Berlin skinhead drama "Combat Sixteen" and Katharina Deus' female boxing drama "About a Girl" were nominated Friday in the feature-film category for this year's First Steps Award, one of Germany's top honors for first-time directors. Rounding out the nominees in the feature category are "Siehst Du Mich?" (Do You See Me?) from director Katinka Feistl, Neele Leana Vollmar's "Urlaub vom Leben" (Vacation From Life), and "Nordstadt" (Northern City) from director Michael Kupczyk. The First Steps Awards also honor outstanding work by up-and-coming directors of documentaries, television commercials and short films. The First Steps winners will be announced Aug. 23. The prizes will be handed out at an official gala in Berlin on Aug. 29.
