Is Cher’s $1 million royalties claim against Mary Bono strong enough? A judge seems to think so.
At a court hearing Monday, a federal judge said he believes Cher is entitled to receive ongoing composition royalties from songs including “I Got U Babe” and “The Beat Goes On” as outlined in her 1978 divorce agreement with Sonny Bono – despite Sonny’s heirs exercising their right to recapture his underlying copyrights under the federal Copyright Act.

Cher’s lawsuit claiming Sonny Bono’s widow, Mary Bono, owes her $1 million in unpaid royalties for Sonny & Cher songs — including hits like “I Got You Babe” — had its first major court hearing Monday, April 25, with a federal judge asking a telling hypothetical.
U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt heard arguments on a pending motion to dismiss the suit and challenged Mary Bono’s position that the federal Copyright Act allows her to terminate the 50% right to royalties that Sonny Bono agreed to fork over to Cher when the...

Mary Bono says Cher’s $1 million lawsuit over allegedly unpaid royalties for Sonny & Cher songs including “I Got You Babe” is “groundless” and should be dismissed, according to a new filing in federal court in Los Angeles.
The widow of Sonny Bono — who was elected to replace him in Congress just months after his 1998 death in a skiing accident — claims in her new paperwork that federal law, specifically the Copyright Act, is on her side and trumps any state contract or community property laws cited by Cher in her breach of contract complaint filed Oct.

Cher is suing ex-husband Sonny Bono's widow Mary Bono. According to a lawsuit filed by the singer's lawyers and obtained by E! News, Cher alleges the former U.S. House of Representatives member tried to undo the divorce agreement that granted the singer 50 percent ownership of royalties and other assets amassed during her marriage to her late ex-husband. The court documents state the lawsuit "has become necessary because now, more than forty years after [Cher] received her 50% ownership of her and Sonny's community property, Sonny's fourth wife and widow, defendant Mary Bono, claims that a wholly inapplicable statutory termination provision of the Copyright Act of 1976... has undone...

Cher filed suit today in Los Angeles against former Rep. Mary Bono, alleging that she is illegally withholding royalties from the hits generated by Sonny & Cher in the 1960s. Mary Bono, the widow of Sonny, stands accused of keeping Cher from her share of royalties on such hits as “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On.” The suit, filed in Los Angeles federal court, asks for $1 million. Cher and Sonny Bono divorced in 1975, but agreed to split the revenue from the songs they recorded as a duo. The Cher lawsuit alleges that Sonny’s fourth wife, Mary Bono, “has undone” Cher’s ownership of the rights and royalties, but doesn’t specify how that happened. Sonny & Cher were among the most popular pop songsters of the ’60s, increasing their reach in the ’70s with their hit variety show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Upon their split, Cher went...

One current and three former female lawmakers have come forward to allege that they’ve been subject to harassment by their fellow members of Congress — including hostile sexual comments, repeated unwanted advances and even inappropriate touching on the House floor.
Former Gop Rep. Mary Bono of Ohio, who served 15 years before being defeated in 2012, is one of the four women who shared stories of alleged misconduct with the Associated Press.
Bono alleges one male colleague repeatedly harassed her, and one time even told her on the House floor that he’d been thinking about her in the shower.

Saturday night was the self-congratulatory free-for-all otherwise known as the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards and damn if they didn't deserve it. Now in its 24th year, both the festival and the gala have all the earmarks of maturity and success -- and there was nothing self evident about either achievement. As Mary Bono Mack pointed out from the stage of the Palm Springs Convention Center to the audience of some 2,000 -- a mix of sequin-clad locals and soberly dressed film-industry folk ranging from Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov (supporting "Argo," which received an award for its cast) to Adopt Films' Jeff Lipsky (supporting his whopping five foreign-langage films programmed at the festival) -- the festival and the gala as "first-class extravaganza" were the vision of her late husband, Sonny Bono (Saturday night also marked the 15th anniversary of his death). Now the gala is an established Oscar bellwether (and one.

Over the past several weeks, political talk on cable news has devolved into a cup of full of Yahtzee™ dice etched with the same rotation of fiscal cliff boilerplate - Republicans gutting social safety net programs, Republicans being willing to raise taxes without calling it raising taxes, Republicans failing to come up with more than one synonym for "not serious," Republicans trying desperately to unsail the Obamacare ship, President Obama coolly checking his watch - shaken up and thrown down for the viewer's enjoyment, so any deviation from those scripts is a welcome change of pace. On Monday morning's Starting Point, Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-ca) provided such a distraction when she opined that the holidays, marred by uncertainty for 98% of Americans, are a "tough time for politicians."...

He’s had an extraordinary year -- two years, actually -- put himself out there for the public to see and I think America has fallen

Chaz Bono haters need to back off. Not only does he have the support of his mom, Cher, but... His stepmom, U.S. Rep. Mary Bono Mack, is also in his corner. "I love Chaz very much," the Republican congresswoman told me at the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala. "I'm very proud of Chaz." Chaz recently told Rolling Stone that he's planning on having bottom surgery to give him a penis. He also said he's ready to date again after splitting from his fiancée, Jennifer Elias. "I'm blessed that Chaz is my stepson," Mack said. "From the moment that I met him in 1984, we hit it off very well and he's really been a blessing in my...

Thank you, Dancing with the Stars. The show's two hour episode Monday night didn't feel like two hours and that's a victory within itself. The show was great and that was mainly because of its "Popular Film Scores" theme.
It only took four weeks to do so, but the contestants are finally getting a bit more competitive. Everyone was stressed during rehearsals and that's because its finally to the point where anyone can go home. Here's the top five moments of last night's show. Only a few more hours to see who gets the boot!
Check out the recap here!

All eyes may have been focused on Cher — who lived up to the hype by finally attending a taping of Dancing with the Stars Monday — but Chaz Bono wasn’t among those ogling the diva who was positioned next to David Arquette’s daughter.

One of the world's biggest superstars showed up to the live taping of Dancing With The Stars tonight. In support of her son, Chaz, Cher sat in the audience to cheer on her only child. I bet the people at ABC are kissing the ground she walks on for coming to the show!!!
I guess everyone was right... when it started looking like Chaz was about to dance for the last time his insanely famous mother showed up to draw in as many votes as possible. I am not sure if her appearance will necessarily mean that Chaz will be safe for another week but I do know that it will draw in a record number of viewers. I mean, I normally don't tune into the reality competition show but I did tonight!!! I could not possibly miss seeing Cher on live television.
The audience was chock full of celebrities.

Update : Chaz performed a paso doble to the " Rocky " theme and scored a 21/30. Cher got emotional after the dance -- and Chaz said it was "amazing to have her support." Check out the video above! Cher is in the house! Last week, Chaz Bono promised fans that his mom, the one and only Cher , would attend tonight's taping of " Dancing with the Stars " if he made it through another week -- and he delivered! The famous pop star was just seen in the audience, about 30 minutes into tonight's 2 hour show -- seated next to Courteney Cox , daughter Coco and her own mom Georgia Holt wearing one heck of a wig. "On way to DWTS ! I'm very Tribal!" she tweeted earlier today. "Wish chaz luck!!! I'm here !" she added. Also cheering Chaz on in the audience is Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack , who was married to Sonny Bono at the time...

The Internet may actually melt down tonight. In a scenario not seen since a unicorn mated with a double rainbow and then bit its finger, Cher is slated to be in the audience of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" this week to cheer on her son, Chaz Bono.
Bono, who has had a remarkably solid run on the show despite some leg injuries, less-than-stellar dancing and early criticism from conservative groups about the inclusion of the first transgender dancer on the prime-time reality juggernaut, will also be getting some love from his stepmother, Rep. Mary Bono Mack, half-brother Chesare Bono, half-sister Georganne Lapiere Bartylak and girlfriend Jennifer Elia.

It's no secret that Chaz Bono has been having a rough couple of weeks on "Dancing With the Stars." After stunning the crowd in week one with his feisty cha cha, Bono injured his knee in dance rehearsals and hasn't been able to regain his momentum. In fact, Bono has come in at the bottom of the leaderboard for the past two weeks.
But that might all change after tonight because Cher is finally heading to the ballroom to support her son on "Dancing With the F-cking Stars." It's the moment everyone -- the fans, the judges and even the celebrities -- has been waiting for.
And she won't be alone. Chaz's stepmother, Mary Bono Mack, will also be in attendance at Monday's (Oct. 10) week four performance to see Chaz take on the tricky paso doble with partner Lacey Schwimmer.

Cher has made it clear that she will be attending tonight's performance of "Dancing with the Stars" to support son Chaz Bono, but Chaz’s mom won’t be the only family member in the audience -- his stepmother, Mary Bono Mack, will also be in the ballroom.
“Chaz has an amazing relationship with both his mother and stepmother,” a friend of Chaz tells me. “He isn’t at all nervous about having both of them in the audience. He is excited and very touched.”
Cher let all of her Twitter followers know she would reward them with an appearance if her son made it through another elimination, tweeting, "God hope Chaz hangs on till next week so I can come sit in the Audience & Watch." But Cher's promise to attend the show if her son made the cut has left other dancers and contestants wondering if her tactics are fair.

When you're the child of one of the most famous celebrities in the world, it's glaringly obvious when your mother - in Chaz Bono's case, Cher - is not present when you are hoofing your heart out on Dancing with the Stars. However, that's all about to change Monday night, Bono tells People. Last week, “she texted me right before Monday's show and said, 'I wanted people to be able to feel your presence and not take away from that and I think you’ve made your presence known now,' " Bono, 42, says. "So I texted her back and I said,...

Tonight Dancing with the Stars is all about the movies. Each of the couples will take on a dance set to a cinematic theme song. Dancing to movie themes isn't just limited to the contestants, however. Probably more talked about than anything for Week 4 is the one night only return of Julianne Hough for two performances, but that won’t be until the Results Show. Julianne will dance with co-star Kenny Wormald to promote their new movie, the Footloose remake. What’s more, she will dance the jive with brother Derek to “Shake Your Tail Feather.” More importantly though, what are our 9 remaining couples dancing tonight?
Paso Doble:
Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke David Arquette & Kym Johnson Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus
Tango:
Ricki Lake & Derek Hough Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani

When the U.S. House of Representatives first asked Sony to come before congress to explain their recent hacking issues and outage, Sony declined with an 8-page letter from Kazuo Hirai, chairman of the board of directors from Sony Computer Entertainment of America, explaining the events of the hack and outage, and expressing it's side of the story.
Now, Tim Schaff, president of Sony Network Entertainment, will stand and testify before a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Tuesday. The subcommittee, headed by Representative Mary Bono Mack, is looking forward to the information and testimony as they prepare to produce and introduce "comprehensive data protection legislation" within in the next few weeks.
Can I ask why?
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the anger and frustration at the situation of the Sony hack. But, honestly...I'm trying to understand why, suddenly, hacking is such a big deal to congress(please note.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.), widow of former congressman and musician Sonny Bono, was recently caught in a set of sexually suggestive photos with a scandal-plagued former billionaire.
Radar Online, which has exclusively obtained the pictures, explains the wrinkle that is likely to be more significant than the six-term congresswoman showing a little cleavage:
The woman apparently licking Bono's breast is Edra Blixseth, a disgraced former billionaire who is at the center of a criminal investigation probing whether she made fraudulent representations about her financial worth to a number of banks.
In a scandal set to rock Capitol Hill, RadarOnline.com has learned the image was taken at an out-of-control event four-years-ago, at Blixseth's $75 million Porcupine Creek estate in Rancho Mirage, California.
According to Radar Online's sources, Mack "was blitzed and clearly having a great time" at the function.
One acquaintance, Julie Bornstein, Mack's 2008 congressional challenger, expressed little surprise over the pictures.

Calling it a "Rosa Parks moment," U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan put a momentous stamp on the upcoming release of Davis Guggenheim's education-reform documentary "Waiting for Superman."
The occasion was the film's Wednesday night Washington premiere, organized by distributor Paramount Vantage, with a screening at the Newseum followed by a Q&A with notables involved in the film. That it will have the impact on public policy Parks' actions ultimately had on the civil rights movement might be unlikely, but a good portion of Washington's political class attended the event to further investigate the subject matter.
In addition to Duncan and several others from his Education Department staff, David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Obama; Melody Barnes, head of the president's Domestic Policy Council; Heather Higginbottom, deputy assistant to the president for domestic policy; Rep. Jane Harman; Rep. Mary Bono Mack; Sen. Al Franken; Sen. Scott Brown; Sen. Christopher Dodd; and Sen.

While a decision on whether movie futures contracts based on boxoffice will begin trading still pending before the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, a bipartisan group of 40 congressmen have signed a letter to the House committee that oversees the federal commission "to express significant concern" and "offer our support for efforts to ensure that such futures markets do not become operational."
Among the members of Congress who signed the letter dated June 8 are Howard Berman (D-Calif.), Joe Barton (R-Texas), Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Mary Bono-Mack (R-Calif.), and Dan Maffei (D-n.Y.).
The letter is part of an effort by the MPAA and others opposed to movie futures trading to stop the plans by two companies that want to offer such contracts to institutional and private investors. Backers have said the futures market would be a way for movie companies and others to hedge their bets and protect their investments.
