- Sideman with Tito Puente (1954-57), Cal Tjader (1958-61) and Mongo Santamaria's charanga band (1961-62). Formed own Latin-Jazz fusion groups (1963-64 and 1965). Had his biggest hit in 1965 with "Spanish Grease" for Verve Records.
