Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have been tapped to pen Sony Pictures and Mattel Films’ “Master of Universe” reboot with brothers Adam and Aaron Nee still directing.
Mattel Films is partnering with Sony Pictures on the feature film, which is based on Mattel’s beloved toy-line that spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as a 1987 film. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia. Dolph Lundgren starred in the original pic as the title character, while Frank Langella played the villainous Skeletor.
Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as DeVon Franklin will be producing. The previous draft of the screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, who is also an executive producer.

‘Masters Of The Universe’ Movie: Art Marcum & Matt Holloway To Write New Draft For Sony/Mattel Films
Writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway are in final talks to write the new draft of Masters of the Universe, which Adam Aaron Nee will direct.
Pic is based on the bestselling He-Man toyline from the 1980s that spawned an animated TV show and a 1987 feature from Cannon Films starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man; back in the day it made over $17 million at the domestic box office. He-Man is a muscular medieval kind of guy who is trying to ward off the nasty Skeletor and his dark armies as both good and evil fight for control of Castle Grayskull.
Currently, Masters of the Universe had a release date of this year on December 20, but getting an event production of this magnitude up and running will take time. So it’s quite conceivable we could see that release date move into 2020.
Like Barbie, He-Man is a prized franchise for Mattel. However, after...

New Line Cinema has picked up the romantic comedy spec It's Not Unusual from veteran television writer-producer Jeff Franklin for mid-six figures. Described as an offbeat and poignant coming-of-age romantic comedy, Unusual is set in 1969 and centers on a high school boy who falls madly in love with his beautiful housekeeper. The project will be produced by Franklin and Bill Strauss through his Billy Goat Prods. label. It will be overseen at the studio by New Line production execs Mark Kaufman, Matt Moore, Janis Chaskin and Luke Ryan. Franklin, whose big-screen writing credits include Summer School and Love Stinks, is best known for the string of small-screen successes he has had as a writer and producer. He was showrunner for the long-running ABC sitcom Full House and created the ABC series Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. Franklin's deal was brokered by attorney Mark Bisgeier. Attorney Phillip Rosen repped Strauss.
