John Nordstrom is the Daytime Emmy Award-winning composer behind the music heard during each episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful.” In this role, he watches every episode, ensuring that the music he composes is well integrated into scenes and that the show’s library consists of distinguishable variations of the same themes, sometimes as many as 20 iterations of each, so that fresh material is available where and whenever needed by the show’s music editor.
Since joining the show in 2013, after previously composing music for “One Tree Hill” and “Judge Joe Brown,” among other shows, Nordstrom has composed more than 2,000 themes for “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

“General Hospital” counts both a Lassa fever epidemic and a water pathogen story among its most successful medical-themed sagas. However, although COVID19 would have undoubtedly provided ample material for ABC’s daytime drama, it chose not to incorporate it into its storyline.
In fact, while all four daytime dramas that aired on broadcast television during the pandemic (NBC’s “Days of our Lives” and CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless”) worked under new health and safety guidelines to produce the shows during the past year, none of them brought the behind-the-scenes mask-wearing in front of the camera.
“We wanted viewers to be able to jump into a world that was unencumbered from the fear we all felt during the pandemic,” says “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini. “Also, there were so many new production costs with testing and protocols. The most expedient and cost-effective...

At this year’s SXSW the pandemic has been a prominent presence in films, either through direct plot lines or simply the conversation surrounding how the movie, in particular, was shot. However, one of the better films to explore the time we’re living in was, somewhat unexpectedly, the documentary following pop singer Charli Xcx in the early stages of quarantine as she set forth to create an album in five weeks with reliance on sharing the process with her fans.

The South by Southwest Film Festival has rolled out its full programming line up, with high-profile new documentaries bolstering previously announced features.
For many in Hollywood, the last-minute cancellation of the Austin-based 2020 SXSW conference was a reality check about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic. Global lockdowns followed, and a year later, the film portion of the cultural event is soldiering on.
“We feel privileged to have been able to pivot to SXSW Online and present a fantastic treasure trove of programming, including a pared down and wonderful selection of films that we know will delight, entertain and move our attendees,” said Janet Pierson, SXSW’s director of film.
Among the selection is “Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free,” featuring a 16mm footage archive of the late singer at work on his 1994 album “Wildflowers,” largely considered his best. The film is directed by Mary Wharton, and leans into SXSW’s reputation for top-tier music programming.

Documentary music films about the careers of singer-songwriter Charli Xcx and late rock legend Tom Petty will headline this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, as the Austin fest has unveiled its full 2021 slate.
Charli Xcx’s “Alone Together” will be the closing night film about how she made an album over the course of 40 days in quarantine, while “Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free” will be the centerpiece film that uncovers new 16mm footage of Petty at work on his 1994 album “Wildflowers.” Rounding out the headliners for SXSW is the previously announced opening night film, “Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil,” a YouTube Originals documentary about the aftermath of the actress and singer’s near-fatal overdose in 2018.
This year’s SXSW, now in its 28th year, is virtual and online after 2020’s festival was one of the first major events to be canceled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The long wait for fresh episodes of The Bold And the Beautiful is coming to an end.
The hit CBS daytime sudser will return to the air with fresh episodes Monday, July 20.
News of the return comes over two weeks after the series became the first U.S. scripted series to resume.
The reason for the quick turnaround is that two of the episodes airing next week were filmed before the Covid-19 shutdown that brought the TV industry to a halt.
New safety protocols are in place to keep the cast and crew safe.
Executive producer/headwriter Bradley Bell previously told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’ve been modifying our spaces, modifying our studio, our booth” and cast and crew will be tested “at least once a week.”
In an effort to keep love scenes on the show, he intended to use “the tricks of the business. We’ll shoot one...

Amid a whole lot of real-life drama, daytime TV’s melodrama is thriving — especially on CBS. Now, if they could just get that Covid-19 testing thing right… In TheWrap’s study of Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings for broadcast television’s daytime soap operas during the coronavirus pandemic, new episodes of “The Young and the Restless” on CBS have led the competition in both the key women 25-54 demographic, with a 0.9 average, and among total viewers, with 4.002 million. Over that same span, for which we included data from March 9 through June 14, fellow CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the one that returned to production on Wednesday before immediately shutting down again the same day to ramp up Covid-19 testing, is in second place with a 0.8 demo rating and 3.477 million total viewers. Not only do both of the top daytime soap operas on broadcast television share a network, they...

CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful today became the first U.S. broadcast series to return to production on stage, following strict Covid-19 safety protocols.
“B&b filmed with cast and crew today and it was a successful first day back at work,” a rep for the series, shot at Television City Studios by Bell-Phillip Television, said in a statement to Deadline.
But, in what may be indicative of the “new normal” of a stop-and-go production during a pre-vaccine coronavirus pandemic, the show will now go on a brief hiatus. It is scheduled to return to production next Tuesday, June 23.
“We have paused very briefly to modify our testing protocol to better accommodate the large volume of testing needed,” the B&b rep said. “Safety remains our top priority as we continue to move forward with the production of the show.”

As productions begin to start up again following the industry-wide shutdown over the coronavirus pandemic, one of the big questions surrounding filming is how movies and television series plan to get away with sex scenes and other intimate moments between actors. The long-running CBS soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” has come up with one idea, albeit a very unusual one. The series is planning to film sex scenes amid the coronavirus pandemic by utilizing lifelike blow up dolls.
“We have some life-like blow up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we’ve used for various other stories — like when people were presumed dead,” the show’s head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell told Forbes. “We’re dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they’ll be featured in love scenes.”

Long-running CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful” is the first major series to resume filming since the Covid-19 pandemic, and will be returning with several new safety precautions.
There will be an on-set coordinator who will oversee safety for the cast and crew, as well as several precautions: cast and crew will be required to wear masks when they’re not on camera, scripts are being rewritten in order to allow for staggering the amount of people on set, and everyone involved will be regularly tested.

The multiple Daytime Emmy Award winner for "Outstanding Drama Series," and a pillar of the CBS daytime schedule for the past 33 years, has been renewed for two more years, through the 2021-2022 broadcast season, it was announced Wednesday by the CBS Television Network.
The series routinely wins its time period and averages over 3.2 million viewers every day, so the renewal was a no brainer.
"For over three decades, The Bold And The Beautiful has been a cornerstone of the CBS Daytime lineup," said Amy Reisenbach, Executive Vice President, Current Programs, CBS Entertainment.
"The show has been a creative and ratings success due to the supremely talented cast, writers and producers that Brad Bell has assembled."
"Of course, none of this would have been possible without B&b's dedicated fans, whose passion for these characters and stories is unsurpassed."

It’s been two months since daytime dramas, along with virtually all other Hollywood production, shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. Originally, the suspension was for two weeks, which quickly became indefinite.

I hear the soap’s cast and crew this week received a new memo, informing them that The Bold and the Beautiful production company is currently getting ready to resume production in June.
