- When the economy started slowing down in the late 1980s, which damaged her fashion boutique, she began organizing weekly parties at prominent New York nightclubs Savage, Bentley's and the Copacabana.

- Moved to New York City in 1981 and opened a clothing boutique in SoHo that gave exposure to new British designers and labels, including Vivienne Westwood, Leigh Bowery, BodyMap, John Galliano, and milliner Stephen Jones. She also helped launch the careers of young American designers Alpana Bawa and Michael Leva.
- Was a precursor and influence upon New York nightlife's Club Kids in the 1990s.
- At the age of 17 she moved to London where she became an intimate of such celebrities as Jimmy Page and Malcolm McLaren.
- Created the Love Ball in 1989 which raised money to fight AIDS. The Love Ball introduced elements of Harlem ball culture to a national audience which in turn led to the making of the documentary "Paris Is Burning".
