Lys Assia was born on March 3, 1924 in Rupperswil. Aargau, Switzerland. She was an actress, known for Oberstadtgass (1956), Palace Hotel (1952) and Die Beine von Dolores (1957). She was married to Oscar Pedersen and Johann Heinrich Kunz. She died on March 24, 2018 in Zollikerberg, Zollikon, Kanton Zürich, Switzerland.
In the late 1950s, she became one of the most successful singers in the
German speaking countries. Her biggest hits were "O mein Papa", "Mi
casa su casa" and "Wenn die Glocken hell erklingen".
Lived on her estates in Cannes, France and Switzerland.
Her second husband Oscar Pedersen, a Danish general-consul, owned several hotels in Europe, Japan and South America.
In 2012, Assia again entered the Swiss national selection Die grosse Entscheidungs Show to represent Switzerland in Malmö at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song "All In Your Head" featuring the hip-hop band New Jack.
She began her stage career as a dancer, but changed to singing in 1940, after successfully standing in for a female singer.
