Served in the Army as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Awarded a Purple Heart and Commendation Medal.

He was awarded the 1986 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play for "Puntila and His Hired Man" at the Remains Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
Has four children, Scott, Tammy, Laurie, and Kirsten.
