Stars: Chris April, Inge Beckmann, Garth Breytenbach, Keita Luna, Tshamano Sebe | Written and Directed by Harold Holscher
After suffering a crippling bankruptcy William Zeil returns to his old family farm that he inherited from his father, bringing with him his wife Sarah and their young adopted daughter, Mary, hoping for a fresh start. They soon meet Lazarus, an old farmhand who looked after William’s father, who takes an immediate, almost paternal liking to Mary. It becomes evident that the local tribal leader has a considerable problem with Lazarus, as do many in the community. On his end, Lazarus has no shortage of his own problems — his wife having died in childbirth, his daughter later perishing in a fire, he is tormented in this terrible place of wounding memories and unrestful souls. Lonely… but, as the Zeil family will soon discover, never alone.

"There's something in the yard. Something strange..." Shout has debuted an official Us trailer for a South African horror thriller titled The Soul Collector, which originally premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year. It also played at the Toronto After Dark, Chicago, & Pan African Film Festivals last fall. Produced and set in South Africa, The Soul Collector is a "fresh new tale of demonic terror, with a captivating South African cast." An old man, fated to collect souls for eternity, seeks atonement after trading his daughter's soul. The film stars Tshamano Sebe, Keita Luna, Garth Breytenbach, Inge Beckman, Chris April, and Owam Arwen Mditshwa. Naming a main character "Lazarus" is just a little too obvious, isn't it? But looks like he gives the best performance anyway. Seems like there's plenty of super creepy moments in this. Here's the new official trailer (+ posters) for Harold Hölscher's The Soul Collector, direct...

It’s a chicken and egg conundrum. Does a demon named Utuli roam the earth in search of souls to consume, feeding on the weakness of those who’ve endured lost to serve as its host? Or does it create turmoil and tragedy precisely to enlist those willing to give themselves over to its quest for satiation—causing the pain it feeds on rather than opportunistically finding the pain we create for ourselves? No matter which choice proves to be correct, we are left to suffer. We must watch our loved ones perish and we must sacrifice our own souls in a desperate fight to reclaim theirs. Either way Utuli wins because it holds all the cards. Refusal only means it will find or kill again until receiving another’s acquiesce.
We can’t therefore blame Lazarus (Tshamano Sebe) for getting himself into his current predicament of becoming a wanderer...
