LONDON -- Universal Music U.K., the British recording division of Universal Music Group, said Monday it is getting into the television business with the launch of Globe Prods., a shingle designed to create TV formats and platforms for such Universal Music artists as the Kaiser Chiefs, U2, the Scissor Sisters, Keane and Andrea Bocelli. Iain Funnell, director of TV and DVD at UMG's Polydor, will move to become general manager of Globe in September. Also on board are TV producer Suzi Aplin, as a part-time consultant, and agent Anita Land, as a non-executive director. The division reports to Universal Music Operations president David Joseph. No financial details were disclosed for the new venture.
