Obnoxious flatmates Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston and Kerry Fox get way more than they bargained for with the arrival of enigmatic Keith Allen and a suitcase full of cash
Rereleased for its 30th anniversary, the macabre black-comic crime caper is from screenwriter John Hodge with Danny Boyle making his feature-directing debut, giving us a hint of the turbocharged showmanship that always marked his style and which he was to crank up another notch a few years later with the zeitgeisty 90s hit Trainspotting. Shallow Grave is a bizarre Edinburgh noir, centring on cover-ups, disloyalty and incompetent corpse-management in the approximate spirit of Ealing, with touches of Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry and Orton’s Entertaining Mr Sloane. It’s also a kind of 90s young person flatshare entertainment, but closer to the BBC’s This Life than Friends.

Lily Allen took a moment this week to interrogate the “nepo baby” terminology that has become widespread in its use to denote Hollywood professionals whose parents are also famous.
“Nepo babies, I think it’s quite like ‘Karen’, in the sense that it’s just a word that is basically used for women who are taking up space, and we’d rather they didn’t, and they should just go away,” the “Fuck You” singer said on her Miss Me podcast.
Allen, 39, is the daughter of British actor Keith Allen. Her brother Alfie is also an actor, best known for his work on Game of Thrones. “My brother, for instance, doesn’t get called nepo baby, and I do,” Allen continued this week.
“I actually don’t really mind the nepotism thing, it’s the ‘baby’ that annoys me,” she said. “It’s like, I’m 40 years old nearly!”

Singer Lily Allen, who is now settled with her ‘Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour, went through a tough time when she achieved fame as a singer. Her mother Alison Owen said she saw her daughter and Amy Winhouse go through similar struggles when they first got into the public eye.
Owen, who is a producer on the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic ‘Back to Black’, told The Times that she thought being in the spotlight “would destroy my daughter” and lead her down the same grim path Winehouse ended up on.
Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011, at the age of 27. Her brother believed that bulimia was also to blame.
Referring to Allen’s former-actor father Keith Allen, she added: “Lily fitted the bill because, early in her success, her role model was her dad.

"Sex 'n bugs 'n sausage rolls." ShineHouse has revealed a new official US trailer for a British indie comedy called La Cha Cha, directed by filmmaker Kevin Allen. After first premiering in the UK in 2021 during the pandemic, the film is set for a VOD release in the US this April a few years later. Liam Hourican stars as Solti Buttering, who is on a road trip to scatter his grandfather's ashes. Along the way he stumbles upon "La Cha Cha", a closed holiday park with a lively off-grid retiree community. Struggling to keep the place going, feisty owner Libby and brother Damien unveil an unconventional plan to sustain it and the residents. This also stars Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Sonny Ashbourne Serkis, Dougray Scott, Alfie Allen, Keith Allen, Llyr Ifans, with Rhys Ifans & Melanie Waters. Even with an impressive cast, looks as kooky and as strange as they come. Not sure it'll appeal to many!

The actor, musician and troublemaker known for everything from Trainspotting to Fat Les opens himself up to your interrogations
Keith Allen: where to begin? You might know him as the guy who moves into the flat in Shallow Grave and then dies of a drug overdose, leaving a suitcase full of money and three flatmates on the prowl. John McVicar died on 6 September 2022 of a heart attack, aged 82. He was a seasoned ex-convict who turned his hand from armed robbery to a career in journalism, writing about crime and justice for the Guardian, the New Statesman and Spiked. However, this biopic is not about McVicar, the autodidact. Instead, it is a crime film about McVicar’s 1968 prison break that’s told with an austere, turn-of-the-’80s aesthetic comparable to Scum, The Black Panther and The Long Good Friday.
Roger Daltrey’s presence may raise questions about McVicar’s seriousness, but this isn’t a lazy rock star vehicle — Daltrey assumes the role with a sinewy attitude that doesn’t want for credibility. Credible too are McVicar’s fellow inmates and the staff who corral them at Hmp Durham, where life is stark but not without goodwill. There is a fair amount of camaraderie, in fact, with conflict rarely going beyond coarse words.

Los Angeles, Aug 17 (Ians) Singer Lily Allen reveals her dad called police on her after she lost her virginity aged 12.
The mum-of-two ‘Smile’ singer, 38, who has been hitched to ‘Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour, 48, since 2020, first had sex when on holiday with her ‘Trainspotting’ star dad Keith Allen, 69, and younger brother Alfie, 36, famed for his role in ‘Game of Thrones’, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“I actually went missing. I lost my virginity to a guy called Fernando in Brazil. When I was about 12, no I am joking,” she told comedian Alan Carr, 47, on his ‘Life’s a Beach’ podcast about how her father thought she had gone missing when she was really having sex with a man she was having a secret summer fling with.
“They thought I actually went missing. I went to his hotel room, and I was on holiday with my dad and brother, and obviously didn’t come back to my room.

If you’ve ever questioned the need for police resources to be spent on decades-old cold cases, Steeltown Murders will leave you in no doubt. Over four episodes, this BBC drama shows how momentous it is for victims and their families to know the truth about a crime, however much time has passed since it was committed.
In 1973, three Welsh teenagers were murdered in Neath and Port Talbot. Sandra Newton, Pauline Floyd and Gwyneth Hughes were picked up hitchhiking after nights out, and then raped, strangled to death and discarded. For almost 30 years, their families and friends lived without knowing who their killer was or whether he walked among them.
Steeltown Murders shows how those three decades were permeated with grief, regret and guilt – not from the killer, whose motivations and reactions this BBC drama studiously ignores – but from the girls’ loved ones, and from the police who initially failed them.

In 1973, the killer of Welsh teenagers Sandra Newton, Pauline Flynn and Gwendoline Hughes was not caught, despite a high-profile and widespread investigation by South Wales Police. The girls’ families spent the next three decades not knowing who was responsible for brutally taking the lives of their loved ones, or whether he still lived alongside them in the local Neath and Port Talbot communities.
In 2002, a development in forensics changed everything. The cold case was reopened with much pared-down resources, and crime scene DNA was successfully used to identify Wales’ first recorded serial killer. Steeltown Murders is the story of the loss, guilt and suspicion that followed the 1970s murders, and of the perseverance of the officers who were eventually able to provide the victims’ families with the answers they’d been denied years before.
Here are the actors making up the cast behind Steeltown Murders‘ dramatisation of real-life figures and events.

Lily Allen has hit out at the “misogynistic and awful” music industry amid her burgeoning acting career.
The star had chart-topping success in the 2000s with songs “Smile” and “The Fear”, and has released four records, the most recent arriving in 2018.
However, in 2021, she starred in the stage play 2:22: A Ghost Story, and is now set to make her TV debut in comedy drama Dreamland. Following this, Allen will co-lead new Martin McDonagh play The Pillowman on the West End later this year.
Allen acknowleged that the career gearshift might take her music fans by surprise, but said it was actually “more surprising” that she embarked on a music career.
“It is the family business,” she told The Times, referring to her acting father, Keith Allen, and brother, Alife Allen.

Kate Hudson says that she knows nepotism is real but feels it “doesn’t matter” if you work hard and happens “way more” in other industries outside of Hollywood.
In an interview with The Independent published Saturday, the Glass Onion star waded into the latest cycle of the Hollywood nepotism debate while promoting the Rian Johnson-directed Knives Out sequel. Hudson, who was among the performers included in a chart for New York magazine’s recent Year of the Nepo-Baby feature, said that when it comes to the “nepotism thing…I don’t really care.”

Kate Hudson has addressed the debate surrounding nepotism in Hollywood.
Hudson, who appears in new Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, is the daughter of actor Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson.
After several roles in the 1990s, Hudson, 43, rose to prominence in 2000 after playing Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous.
Over the next decade, she scored a string of roles in films including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), You, Me and Dupree (2006), Fool's Gold (2008) and Bride Wars (2009).
During a new interview with The Independent, Hudson brushed off the recent conversation surrounding Hollywood’s favouring of “nepo babies” – stars who have successful parents.
In recent weeks, actor Zoë Kravitz, who is the daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actor Lisa Bonet, and Lily Allen, who is the daughter of actor Keith Allen, have defended themselves over the debate.
Hudson, though, isn’t so fussed.

Jamie Lee Curtis has joined the chorus of celebrities who are weighing in on the so-called “nepo baby” debate.
Curtis, the daughter of actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, made her professional acting debut at age 19 in a 1977 episode of the TV series Quincy, M.E.
Earlier this week, New York Magazine published a feature titled “The Year of the Nepo Baby” that detailed the lineages of numerous Hollywood folks who have famous parents and other relatives working in the entertainment industry. The story’s various charts — including this one, which featured Curtis and other celebrities — explored how nepotism has given them some industry advantage or played a part in each of their successes.
Curtis on Friday weighed in with a post on Instagram, noting that she’s been acting since age 19 (she’s now 64), starting with that episode of Quincy, so that makes her an “Og Nepo Baby.

Bono’s daughter actor Eve Hewson has taken a lighthearted approach to the “nepo baby” conversation.
Much has been said about the children of celebrities and the privilege that may come with generational fame.
The debate was most recently reignited after Vulture published an exhaustive guide to the Hollywood “nepo-verse”.
Responding to the discourse in a series of tweets, Hewson proudly embraced herself as the child of a celebrity.
“Gonna get Nepo Baby tattooed on my a**,” she joked.
“2023 Goals: be successful enough to get recognised as a nepo baby,” the Bad Sisters star wrote in a subsequent post, before following up with: “Wait s***, I thought this was my Notes app.”
Before long, Hewson excitedly shared a clip of the article, announcing: “I Have Just Been Made Aware I Hit My 2023 Goals And It’S Still 2022.”

Lottie Moss is leaving Twitter.
The half sister of supermodel Kate Moss seems to have deactivated her twitter after the negative backlash to her comments on “nepotism babies” or “nepo-babies”.
The term refers to children born in celebrity families and became the topic of debate recently after a New York Magazine story titled “An All But Definitive Guide to the Hollywood Nepo-Verse” hit the newsstands.

While Lottie is not a model, her niece Lila Grace Moss was mentioned in another story “The Catwalk Nepoti” which spoke on “second-generation somebodies” in entertainment.
She seemed to take issue with the way the articles framed relatives of famous people and defended, “I’m so sick of people blaming nepotism for why they aren’t rich and famous or successful”.

With Hollywood’s so-called nepo babies being quite the topic of conversation this week, some celebrities took to social media to share their thoughts on the matter.
Their reactions come after a New York magazine story that was published online Monday dove into the invisible network of family ties that can give the children of celebrities an advantage in the industry.
Recently, especially in 2022, the offspring of notable names in Hollywood has become a popular talking point in viral videos across social media. Some content creators have produced series around nepo babies and their well-established parents.
After the New York article went viral, O’Shea Jackson Jr., the son of rapper, actor and filmmaker Ice Cube, said in a thread of tweets Tuesday that people who are a part of generational wealth and talent should “Embrace that shit. Because it’s something that’s been happening for centuries.

O’Shea Jackson Jr has joined the “nepo baby” discourse, saying that his career “was up to him”.
A debate about the children of celebrities and their privilege erupted after Vulture released an exhaustive guide to the Hollywood “nepo-verse”.
Now, the son of actor and rapper Ice Cube has entered the chat, saddling both sides of the argument.
“My dad told me in a perfect world, I would play him in Straight Outta Compton. I was already in college for screenwriting at USC,” Jackson Jr wrote on Twitter. “I accepted the challenge. And auditioned for two years before getting the role.”
Jackson Jr made his film debut portraying his father in the 2015 crime drama.
“After that it was up to me, he couldn’t hold my hand through my career,” he continued. “I had to get my a** up and make it work.”

Imagine the Spidermen pointing at each other meme except, instead of Spidermen, it’s different industry subsets of nepotism babies. The discourse around famous people with famous parents, distant relatives, or not-so-distant family friends has become the center of conversation in Hollywood as of late, and now the nepo babies themselves are coming to their own defenses. In a recent series of tweets, Lily Allen made the case that the real nepotism-wielding villains aren’t in Hollywood, they’re in Washington D.C., and on Wall Street.

Lily Allen has been posting on social media about “nepo babies”.
In recent weeks, TikTok users have shared their fascination with famous figures from the entertainment industry who they didn’t realise had famous or successful parents, christening them “nepo babies” (short for nepotism).

True crime dramas have become a staple of British television and streaming services. Their popularity seems endless and ever growing. Episodes are devoured at incredible rates as the true stories behind the dramatizations are the start of many an internet k-hole.
The British true crime drama has fallen into a somewhat formulaic way of being made. The narratives are almost classical; a clear, yet flawed hero, triumphing over an unquestionably evil villain. The focus is either on the lead police officer investigating the case, or the perpetrator of the crimes. Both or one of them is usually white, they are almost always men. If the focus is on the villain, it’s to show that he is irredeemably cruel, and a master manipulator with those closest to him suffering the most. If the focus is on the hero, he is usually approachably attractive, stern and focused when it comes to work yet soft centred,...

When ex-soldier turned mercenary, John Gold (Bennett), learns of the murder of his best friend, he sets off on a mission to find out what happened. What he discovers is a sinister conspiracy and he sets about taking down those responsible one by one.
Since parting ways with the WWE, former superstar Stu Bennett (aka Wade Barrett) has turned his hand to a career as a movie hard man. First as the villain in the fantastic Scott Adkins movie Eliminators and now here in Vengeance – where he takes on a more heroic role. Well I say hero, but it’s more in the sense of a vengeful, single-minded anti-hero in the grand revenge-seeking tradition of Charles Bronson.

"You best stop shooting your mouth off, now – or you're a dead man!" Saban Films + Lionsgate have just released an official trailer for another one of these low budget, super cheesy, totally awful-looking action films. This one is titled I Am Vengeance, a variation on the original Vengeance title for UK release. I Am Vengeance stars former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett (who wrestled under the name Wade "King" Barrett) as an ex-Special Forces soldier turned professional mercenary, who goes to a small town to investigate the murder of a friend and his parents. The film's cast includes Keith Allen, Gary Daniels, Anna Shaffer, Bryan Larkin, Sean Blowers, Sapphire Elia, Mark Griffin, and Wayne Gordon. I'm so, so tired of these films, only about guns and muscles and bravado and being men and honor and glory and all that crap. Before we talk about “Sing,” let’s talk about Satan. Remember the scene in “Broadcast News” when Albert Brooks tries to convince Holly Hunter that her handsome new crush is Lucifer? He will just bit by little bit lower our standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance.”

In case you missed it earlier in the week, it was reported that several new expansions and collaborations were in the works for the quintessential Lego game that would include the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog, Harry Potter and the Teen Titans as new characters. As it turns out, the report was true, but those three are just the tip of the iceberg – 16 new “entertainment properties” are in the works and due to be released from the Fall onward.
See below for the full list:

We revisit brilliant, unflinching UK medical drama Bodies by Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio. Gory scenes ahead…
Did you know umbilical cords can snap? That if you give one a hard-enough tug it can ping loose of a placenta and spray flecks of high-nutrition gunk all over your face? Or that too firm a yank on a lodged placenta can pull a uterus clean out, starting a flesh avalanche that turns pounds of inside-meat into surprise outside-meat that slumps, glistening, like an exotic off-cut in a butcher’s shop window?
I’d apologise for the graphic imagery but it serves a purpose. To head off at the pass any comments of the ‘why are you writing about a medical drama on a site called Den Of Geek?’ variety. I promise you, there isn’t a landscape more sci-fi than the layers of spongey, mottled purple lurking beneath a tautly pregnant stomach,...

On Friday afternoon, some three decades after he was imprisoned for a murder he steadfastly denied committing, former sailor Keith Allen Harward finally walked through the doors of Virginia's Nottoway Correctional Center as a free man. The exonerated 59-year-old's lawyer, who spoke to People about an hour after Harward's release, says her client had just one request: After years of prison food, he had a hankering for fried oysters. "Unfortunately, we're far from anywhere that serves fried oysters, so we're just arriving at a restaurant with general American fare," Olga Akselrod, an attorney with the New York-based Innocence Project, tells People.

Chicago – The film “Eddie the Eagle” soared at the box office this weekend, and one of the huge stars in it is Hugh Jackman, the Australian-born movie and theater icon. He was in Chicago on February 16th, 2016, to walk the Red Carpet for the film, and HollywoodChicago.com was there to both do video interviews and photograph the event.
Born in Sydney, Jackman also studied communications at the University of Technology at Sydney and became an actor by taking a drama course in his final year. He started out in musical theater, and broke through in 1999 performing “Oklahoma” in London. The same year he was cast as Wolverine in “X-Men” (2000). He has portrayed the character in several films, and has also starred in “Van Helsing” (2004), “Real Steel” (2011) and “Chappie” (2015). He also notably starred on Broadway...

Chicago – “Eddie The Eagle” is thoroughly predictable underdog story, but this picture won me over with a plucky persistence fitting for its peculiar protagonist. It’s an admittedly minor but mostly true tale of an oddball outsider overcoming overwhelming odds.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
“Eddie The Eagle” was a not terribly talented but incredibly motivated British ski jumper who managed to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics. He made the British Olympic team because no other British athletes had even thought to compete in that particular sport.
Taron Egerton, from last year’s surprisingly enjoyable “The Kingsman,” stars as Eddie. He’s a milk drinking, awkward, sexless nerd outfitted with giant dorky glasses and a wisp of a mustache. Egerton juts out his chin, hunches his back and perpetually seems on the verge of letting his glasses slip off his nose entirely. But he captures what made people like Eddie in the first place...

Few cinematic tropes are tailored to as wide an audience as that of the underdog story; particularly in the sporting genre, with dramas in the vein of Hoosiers and Remember the Titans often remembered fondly for championing a luckless team or individual overcoming the odds just when everyone believed them to be down and out. Step forth, Eddie The Eagle.
Whether Dexter Fletcher’s real-life sports biopic is held in the same regard as those aforementioned genre classics in years to come is up for question, though for now, footballing stars such as Russell Wilson, Drew Brees and former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner trumpet the film’s arrival in today’s all-new teaser.
Featuring the admittedly slanted reactions of Wilson, Brees and Warner, there’s little in the way of new footage from Eddie the Eagle actually included. One thing’s for sure, however, 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate...
