Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the two-part series finale of Fox’s Last Man Standing.
Last Man Standing wrapped up its nine-season run with a two-part series finale that sees the Baxters’ green truck as a literal vehicle to celebrate nearly a decade of family, love and Outdoor Man.
Written by Ed Yeager, “Baxter Boot Camp” starts off with newly-minted “true Baxter” Jen (Krista Marie Yu) preparing for a camping trip with her friends visiting from Hong Kong. Concerned for her safety, Vanessa (Nancy Travis) offers to help Jen prepare for unpredictable scenarios by teaming up with Mandy (Molly McCook) for a challenging backyard bootcamp.
Meanwhile at Outdoor Man, Mike (Tim Allen) sees Kristin (Amanda Fuller) diving deep into work, which cuts into her family time. In the office next door, Kyle (Christoph Sanders) tells Ed (Hector Elizondo) that he seeks to shift to part-time duties as he...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series finale of “Last Man Standing.”)
After nine season and two networks, “Last Man Standing” finally sat down on Thursday with a series finale that metaphorically said goodbye to the show by literally saying goodbye to Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) beloved truck, which was stolen just after he’d completed his 10-year restoration on the antique car.
The hourlong two-parter, titled “Baxter Boot Camp / Keep On Truckin,’” managed to remain mostly upbeat, which is exactly what Allen and “Last Man Standing” showrunner Kevin Abbott wanted for the ending of the Fox sitcom. But the writers did get in one big emotional scene, where Mike, Vanessa (Nancy Travis) and all the members of the Baxter family and their closest friends gathered together for a memorial service to mourn the loss of the show — er, truck.

After 194 episodes, spanning nine seasons and two networks, Last Man Standing signed off Thursday with a decidedly understated finale. No one got married, got a new job or moved away. But when everyone — including Kaitlyn Dever’s Eve, who FaceTimed in for the occasion — was asked to say a few words at the service, they didn’t eulogize the classic automobile — not if you listened carefully. After 194 episodes, nine seasons and two networks, “Last Man Standing” ends its run on Thursday night with one more story that puts a bookend on the entire series. In the final two episodes, “Baxter Boot Camp” and “Keep On Truckin,” the Baxter family reminisces on some of their good times while camping in the backyard.
But then, later, they gather again after Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) beloved green 1956 Ford F-100 is stolen. And as Mike asks family and friends to one-by-one pay tribute to the truck, it’s clear what they’re really doing is saying farewell to the show.

Last Man Standing is ending after three seasons on Fox, nine total, including an original run on ABC. And while the network has opted not to order another season, it is is sending Tim Allen and the rest of the Last Man Standing family off with praise just days before its series finale.
“The show took a bold, yet relatable, point-of-view with great humor and sensibility that directly spoke to families. Tim, the producers and cast have been great partners, and I believe this series will go down as one of the most meaningful family comedies in television,” said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment for Fox Entertainment told Deadline. “It’s only fitting that a show of this importance gets the opportunity for a big, proper farewell to its loyal fans.”

As long-running multicam sitcoms “Last Man Standing” and “Mom” wrap up their runs this month, it might very well also be the end of another chapter in TV history. Even as the broadcast networks prepare to order a crop of new series and announce their fall schedules next week, the idea that a new sitcom might make it to the once-vaunted threshold of 100 episodes — let alone more than that — seems antiquated.
For one thing, the big-bucks syndication marketplace of yore is mostly gone, making that four-season, 100-episode mark less necessary to reach. And in this age of primetime erosion and viewer migration to the streaming world, season orders are short — usually 10 episodes, a far cry from the once-common 22- or 24-episode count — and many comedies are wrapping up within a few years of launch. Or they take long hiatuses, keeping their episodic tally to a minimum.

After nine seasons and two networks, “Last Man Standing” will take its final bow this spring on Fox. And, as you might imagine, shooting the last episodes of a multi-cam sitcom during a pandemic is not as much fun — mainly because a large studio audience is no longer safe. But the Tim Allen comedy was actually able to keep the real-life laughter coming in a way to mitigate the spread of Covid-19: individual plexiglass booths for 18 paid “laughers” in the audience. “I cannot emphasize the impact a studio audience has,” “Last Man Standing” showrunner Kevin Abbott told TheWrap. “So it took a little bit of working around things. But ultimately, we brought in laughers. And they’re up in the audience in their own little plastic booths, like the booths from ‘The $64,000 Question.’ They’re sealed off in these things, but they can laugh, and the actor can at least hear them,...

Fox’s “Last Man Standing” is going big in its final season, with an episode featuring Tim Allen in his leading role of Mike Baxter and reprising Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, the iconic character he played on ABC’s “Home Improvement” for eight seasons from 1991-1999.
The bit will come in the second episode of “Last Man Standing’s” upcoming ninth season, when Vanessa hires a home improvement repairman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Mike, who is struggling with an idea for his Outdoor Man 10th Anniversary vlog. And the idea for this epic half-hour, which airs Jan. 7 on Fox, came about because the broadcast network wanted to kick off the sitcom’s final season with something flashy.
“We had already broken the first seven episodes and our intention was to have the ‘Time Flies’ [flash-forward] be the first episode. And Fox came to us and said, ‘We’d...

Last Man Standing is coming to an end, again.
The Fox comedy will end with its upcoming ninth season, which will premiere on the network in January.
The move means that the Tim Allen-fronted series will have run for 194 episodes when it ends with its ninth season being ordered for 21 episodes.
It marks the second time that the sitcom has come to an end; the show, which is produced by 20th Television, ran for six seasons on ABC and was axed in 2017. Fox, which at the time was part of the same corporation as the studio that made it, picked it up for a seventh season that premiered in September 2018.
Last Man Standing is currently Fox’s only returning live-action comedy. The network has straight-to-series comedy series Call Me Kat, starring Mayim Bialik and executive-produced by Bialik and Jim Parsons, launching in midseason and is still planning to film...

“Last Man Standing” is coming to an end — again.
Fox announced Wednesday that the previously announced Season 9 of the Tim Allen multi-camera comedy will be the show’s last. The ninth and final season is slated to debut in January. This will mark the second time “Last Man Standing” has ended. The show originally ran for six seasons on ABC before being canceled in 2017. Fox then picked up it for a seventh season, which began airing in 2019. Upon its conclusion, the show will have filmed 194 episodes.
“It has been an honor to be home for Tim Allen and ‘Last Man Standing,’” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for Fox Entertainment. “Millions of families have long enjoyed the show because, perhaps, they see themselves in the Baxters. The loyal affection they’ve shown proves just how much this series has meant to them. On behalf of everyone at Fox, a big,...

What can fans expect from the new season of Last Man Standing? Executive producer Kevin Abbott recently spoke with TV Guide about how the Fox TV show will address the Covid-19 pandemic.
The comedy series, which was just renewed for a ninth season, revolves around Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), the marketing director of the Outdoor Man sporting goods stores and a “man’s man”. His family doesn’t see eye-to-eye with him so it can sometimes be a little tough for Mike to stand his ground and stay in touch with his inner man. The cast also includes Nancy Travis, Hector Elizondo, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders, Molly McCook, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, and Krista Marie Yu.

Fox has officially renewed two more series for next season, flagship comedy Last Man Standing, headlined by Tim Allen, and medical drama The Resident, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp. Both come from 20th Century Fox TV and both had been a lock to come back.
The pickups leave freshmen Prodigal Son and Outmatched as the only remaining Fox scripted series yet to hear their fate. As we reported, drama Prodigal Son’s renewal is being finalized while comedy Outmatched is not expected to continue.
Last Man Standing and The Resident will join the rest of Fox’s returning live-action series on the bench of midseason. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the timing of Hollywood’s production reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox’s fall schedule only features scripted series that are either already in the can or are animated, as animation has not been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Season 8 finale of “Last Man Standing.”)
“Last Man Standing” brought its eighth season to a close on Thursday with an episode that was never intended to be this year’s finale and definitely not meant to be a series finale — but it could be. Though star Tim Allen and showrunner Kevin Abbott are hoping that’s not how things turn out for the Baxters.
Due to production shutdowns amid the pandemic, the Fox comedy was just one day shy of filming a proper Season 8 closer, a half-hour that would have seen the birth of Mike (Allen) and Vanessa’s (Nancy Travis) oldest daughter, Kristin’s (Amanda Fuller), baby and be a better note to end on for fans — should the show not get renewed for Season 9.

Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) has a problem on Thursday’s “Last Man Standing” — what else is new, right? — one that he can’t sleep on any longer: Vanessa (Nancy Travis) has started snoring and he is incapable of suffering through it. Of course, he does his best to present this issue to his dear wife in the most loving way possible, but she still doesn’t take the news so well.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from tomorrow’s episode, Mike comes home after a “taxing” day at work and slowly tries to broach the topic gently by saying, “You’re beautiful, funny and so understanding,” to which she goes, “Mike?”
Fine. “You snore!” he shouts.
“I mean with an extraordinary amount of gusto, I might add.”

There was bad news for Last Man Standing this morning when Fox’s fall schedule was unveiled and the Tim Allen sitcom was not on it. But they won’t have to wait that long for Season 8 of the show: It will debut in January after Thursday Night Football wraps on a new night, Thursday, going against NBC’s comedy block at 8 Pm.
Lms is expected to be paired with new multi-camera comedy Outmatched, starring Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson. I hear that anchoring the night at 9 Pm will be promising new drama series Filthy Rich, starring Kim Cattrall. Fox had been trying to get the family soap for fall launch, but creator Tate Taylor’s film schedule did not permit that.
Allen shared the news of the new slot with his fans on Twitter.

For the first time in its seven-season history on two networks, Tim Allen’s sitcom Last Man Standing will not be on the fall schedule.
Despite the comedy’s strong ratings performance in its first season on Fox, it has been held for later in the season. Last Man Standing had to leave its long-time Friday home as WWE’s SmackDown Live takes over the night in the fall, and was not assigned another slot on the Fox fall schedule, which will feature no live-acting comedies for the first time in years.
“We set some comedy goals, one of which was ramping up our animation lineup; that was our No. 1 comedy target,” Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn said during Fox’s upfront call Monday morning.
