- First female composer to win an Oscar and an Emmy for music score.

- Rachel Portman has composed an opera, "The Little Prince", based on the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry story. The world premier is being given by Houston Grand Opera starting 31 May 2003.

- She has received two further Academy Nominations for The Cider House Rules (1999) and Chocolat (2000), which also earned her a Golden Globe Nomination.
- She was also the first female composer to win a Primetime Emmy Award, which she received for the film, Bessie (2015).
- She has written stage and concert works, among them commissions from the BBC Proms and Houston Grand Opera.
