If you’ve attended a mainstream country concert in the past decade, you’re probably familiar with the part of the set where the headliner sprinkles in a non-obvious cover from an adjacent genre like pop, R&b, or classic rock. It’s a move with any number of purposes: to show an artist’s range of influences, to reel in a drifting crowd with a massive hit, to appeal to a wider audience, or to highlight how fluid and arbitrary genre borders really are when you strip a song back to its essentials.

Stephen King has revealed that he was once such a fan of Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of…)” that his wife threatened divorce.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the King of Horror was asked about his obsession with the 1999 Latin pop hit, giving King the opportunity to share exactly how obsessed he was with a particular remix of the song. After admitting he was a “big time” fan of the track, King recalled how his wife was on her final straw.
“My wife threatened to divorce me,” he said. “I had the dance mix. I loved those extended play things, and I played both sides of it. And one of them was just total instrumental. And I played that thing until my wife just said, ‘One more time, and I’m going to fucking leave you.'”
Although King didn’t specifically name which “dance mix” of “Mambo No.

Over the last few years, the Gulf Coast Jam, a multi-day concert blowout held every spring in Panama City Beach, Florida, has become one of country music’s leading festivals, pulling in headliners like Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown, and Kenny Chesney. But recently, festival producer Rendy Lovelady has noticed something unusual backstage. “Ten or 15 years ago, everybody would sit in a circle around the table, pull out their guitars and start singing old country songs,” he says. “There was a lot of camaraderie. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called on his state’s Board of Administration to explore legal action against Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch (Ab InBev), under the guise that a stock devaluation resulting from conservative boycotts against the brand is affecting Florida’s pension fund.
Earlier this year, conservatives had a full meltdown over a 45-second Instagram video touting a partnership between Bud Light and transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Leave it to Kid Rock to make a big stink about something in the name of “morals” only to keep profiting off of it. That’s what the musician is doing with Bud Light, which is still sold in his Nashville bar despite him previously proclaiming, and I quote, “Fuck Bud Light.”
The hysteria started after Bud Light befriended transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, partnering with the internet personality for a marketing campaign and sending her a few custom cans of beer featuring her likeness. Kid Rock, like many other conservatives with nothing better to do, then took to the internet to prove that he is way more “triggered” than liberals have ever been, posting a video in which he shoots at cases of Bud Light with a semi-automatic rifle.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to “own the libs,” The Beach Boys’ Mike Love made a clunky attempt to joke about the conservative boycott of Bud Light during a recent concert (via Reddit). Before going into “Surfer Girl,” the avid Trump supporter sarcastically told the crowd that he was apprehensive about doing the song because it’s “gender specific.”

Still crying over your cans of Bud Light? Well, that’s too bad, because TikTok star and trans actress Dylan Mulvaney wants the right-wing media — and Bud Light — to know that no amount of backlash will stop her from fighting for her community.
Best known for her viral TikTok series Days of Girlhood, Mulvaney’s status as a visible and unapologetic trans entertainer has made her a target of harassment. And in early April, a small collaboration the influencer posted with Bud Light quickly became the main focus of conservative talking heads.

Bud Light Parent Tries To Counter Dylan Mulvaney Backlash With Clydesdales Across America Ad Imagery
Hoping to win back the audience that abandoned Bud Light and other affiliated products in the wake of its endorsement deal with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch has launched a new ad featuring its most iconic image.
The new patriotic ad, released Friday, shows a Clydesdale horse walking past famous landmarks ranging from New York City to the Grand Canyon, with a solemn voiceover delivering a patriotic message.
“This is a story bigger than beer,” the narrator says. “This is the story of the American spirit.”
At one point, the ad shows two people raising an American flag, with one placing a hand over her heart.

Earlier this month, Kid Rock responded to Bud Light’s collaboration with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney by lining up cases of beer, pulling out his assault rifle, and shooting them. Flipping off the camera, he declared: “Fuck Bud Light and fuck Anheuser-Busch.” Kid Rock’s response to a beer partnership and the surrounding ruckus elicited a 200-word statement issued by the brewing company’s Chief Executive Officer Brendan Whitworth on Friday.
The declaration reads like a carefully crafted piece of crisis PR, in which Whitworth seems to be attempting to placate conservatives boycotting Anheuser-Busch products.

Brooke Shields revealed that The Blue Lagoon director Randal Kleiser has tried to contact her after the release of her new Hulu documentary Pretty Baby.
In the documentary, the actor and supermodel accused Kleiser of wanting “to sell my sexual awakening.”
Shields starred in the 1980 film alongside Christopher Atkins. Aged 14 and 18 at the time of filming, respectively, Shields and Atkins played cousins who were stranded on a deserted island.
As the characters matured into adulthood, they fell in love and had a child together.
Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday (11 April), Shields was asked whether any of the male directors she mentions in the documentary have reached out to her.
“I saw [Kleiser’s] name on my phone, and I was like, ‘Oh, what do I do?’ and I let it go to voicemail,” Shields said. “Because I was like, ‘I want to see what the tone is.’ He wants to chat.

Howard Stern and Rosie O’Donnell are showing their support for Dylan Mulvaney, the transgender social media star who has been at the center of conservative backlash following her partnership with Bud Light. Mulvaney announced in an April 1 Instagram video that she was teaming up with Bud Light for a fan contest, while also revealing the company made her a one-time only specialized can with her face on it. An alleged leak of a Bud Light gay pride can also hit social media around the same time.
Many conservative figures condemned Bud Light following its decision to team with a Lbgtq content creator. Country star Zach Bryan has voiced his support for the transgender community amid the transphobic backlash against Bud Light’s campaign with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
Last week, veteran country artist Travis Tritt announced that he would be removing Anheuser-Busch products from his rider over the company’s partnership with Mulvaney.
Scores of videos have been shared on social media showing conservative consumers pouring away drinks owned by the company, including Budweiser and Michelob, or smashing them up.
In a tweet shared Tuesday (11 April), Bryan used Tritt’s own lyrics against him to defend the transgender community.
“I mean no disrespect towards anyone specifically, I don’t even mind @Travistritt,” the 27-year-old artist wrote.
“I just think insulting transgender people is completely wrong because we live in a country where we can all just be who we want to be. It’s a great day to be alive I thought.

The creator of Maternal has addressed its untimely cancellation by ITV.
It was revealed earlier this month that the channel would not commission a second run of Maternal.
Maternal, starring Parminder Nagra, Lara Pulver and Lisa McGrillis, followed three doctors who return to work in a post-Covid landscape after their maternity leave ends.
The drama began in January 2023, but sadly, for fans of the show, not enough viewers tuned in to warrant a second run.
On Tuesday (11 April), creator Jacqui Honess-Martin posted a broken-heart emoji on Twitter, writing: “We had a lot more to say.”
Explaining the reasoning behind ITV’s decision, the writer continued: “The show needed a high number of viewers for @ITV to sell advertising to break even. Maternal didn’t get that number.
“It hurts that it ends here but I am incredibly proud of the show, grateful and a bit amazed that we got to do it at all.

A court in India has dismissed a petition filed against a magistrate’s order discharging Shilpa Shetty in a 2007 obscenity case over actor Richard Gere kissing her at a public event in India.
In March 2007, Shetty and Gere attended an Aids awareness event in Mumbai where the Pretty Woman star kissed her cheek several times.
Soon after the event, the incident was met with protests by radical Hindus who considered Gere’s actions to go against Indian values.
At the time, India’s Supreme Court also issued an arrest warrant for Gere accusing him of participating in “cheap publicity”.
Following the backlash, Gere issued an apology claiming that he had been trying to demonstrate that kissing didn’t cause HIV transmissions.
In January 2022, the obscenity charges against Shetty were dismissed.
The charges were deemed “groundless” and the court ruled that Shetty was indeed subjected to unwanted advances from a Hollywood celebrity.

A punk band from Germany was allegedly refused entry into the UK due to post-Brexit rule changes.
The Stuttgart-based band called Trigger Cut was due to play at seven UK venues this week but was refused entry into the country.
“Today we got refused at the UK border for weird reasons,” the band wrote in a Facebook post. “We would have needed a special certificate of sponsorship but no one knew before, not even the venues, promoters, or the German customs authority.
“Brexit bureaucracy??? A post-Brexit nightmare.”
The band, which consists of three members, also said that the whole experience “at the UK border was humiliating and sad”.
In another post, the band explained that the UK authorities wanted them to have “ a so-called certificate of sponsorship from all seven clubs,” claiming that “this certificate or number was unknown even to the organisers”.
“Nobody knew about it!!” the post read.

Howard Stern has condemned Kid Rock and Travis Tritt’s transphobic comments about TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney’s new partnership with brewing company Anheuser-Busch.
Earlier this month, Mulvaney, who is transgender, shared a sponsored post on her Instagram account promoting Bud Light’s March Madness contest.
The partnership prompted a wave of transphobic backlash on social media, as well as a boycott of Bud Light.
Last week, country singer Tritt shared a range of tweets in support of the Anheuser-Busch boycott.
“I will be deleting all Anheuser-Busch products from my tour hospitality rider. I know many other artists who are doing the same,” he wrote. “Other artists who are deleting Anheuser-Busch products from their hospitality rider might not say so in public for fear of being ridiculed and cancelled. “Get woke, go broke,” has become a rallying cry of the political right whenever they see a brand make the slightest effort to align itself with liberal or progressive values. It’s a meme that allows Maga country to believe that there is ongoing, massive backlash to products that acknowledge and celebrate marginalized communities. Coolio’s 28 September 2022 death was caused by an accidental overdose of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine, a coroner has ruled.
No cause of death was given at the time when the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper was found dead at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, California.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner report, which was seen by People, also reportedly listed cardiomyopathy unspecified, asthma and recent phencyclidine use as other significant conditions that contributed to his death.
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart that makes it harder for the heart muscle to pump blood to the rest of the body.
TMZ first reported the news of the coroner’s ruling, adding that – according to family spokesperson Jarel (Jarez) Posey – Coolio’s next of kin plan to honour him through documentaries and film.

“Set in New York and Spain in 1974, the film is told through the eyes of James (Christopher Briney), a young assistant keen to make his name in the art world, who helps the eccentric and mercurial Dalí prepare for a big gallery show. Donald Trump’s allies launched a new line of attack against his potential rival for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Ron DeSantis, falsely claiming that the Republican governor was “endorsed” by philanthropist George Soros, The Daily Beast reported.
Soros mentioned DeSantis while giving a speech on Thursday at the international Munich Security Conference, saying, “My hope for 2024 is that Trump and Governor DeSantis of Florida will slug it out for the Republican nomination. Trump has turned into a pitiful figure, continuing mourning his loss in 2020. Big Republican donors are abandoning him in droves.

The Voice crowned its Season 22 winner on Tuesday (December 13) night as 22-year-old country artist Bryce Leatherwood was named the champion of the hit NBC competition series. Leatherwood was up against tough competition in the final, including his Team Blake teammates Bodie (runner-up) and Brayden Lape (5th place), Team Camila’s Morgan Myles (3rd place), and Team Legend’s Omar Jose Cardona (4th place). The Statesboro, Georgia native, who made it to the Live Rounds after an audience vote, has become the first-ever Instant Save Artist to win The Voice. The finale saw Leatherwood joined on stage by his coach Blake Shelton for a rousing performance of the country star’s own 2011 hit “Hillbilly Bone.” This came after Leatherwood wowed audiences on Monday’s telecast with his rendition of two timeless country classics, “T-r-o-u-b-l-e” by Travis Tritt and “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by Keith Whitley.
