Fargo is one of the most brilliant and weird series that has probably ever been made. While the series is brilliant and gets better with each season, the wait between each season is very long because the creator Noah Hawley is attached to many projects, and he doesn’t have much time to create new seasons every year. So, if you love the surreal humor, psychological thriller, and crime drama aspects of Fargo here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Rashida Jones learned a lot from her famous parents. The actress reflected this week on growing up with Hollywood-connected parents, saying, “more people go into the family business than they don’t.”
“I had parents who were in the public eye, but they were extremely protective of us,” Jones, the daughter of music producer Quincy Jones and actress-model Peggy Lipton, told InStyle. She added that fame “wasn’t that much part of my reality” and called being famous “pretty poisonous for the most part.”
“People like the story of a legacy family and it’s fun to write about and it’s fun to think about, you know, the ‘mini me’ and the person who looks like their mom or their dad,” the Parks and Rec star added as she reflected on Hollywood’s fascination with the nepo baby. “And then there’s the resentment there, too. But I think about it as,...

On shows like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation,” the great strength of Rashida Jones has been her plainspoken relatability. Despite her glamorous lineage as the daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, Jones blends in with ensembles built for everyday quirks rather than large-scale gestures; on those NBC sitcoms, for example, her unfussy delivery style enhanced both the reality and the comedy of her scenes.
Jones tested herself a bit more as a leading lady in the Sofia Coppola movie “On the Rocks,” but her lower-key take on gilded-cage ennui wound up a comfortable fit for what was itself a lower-key Coppola picture of more modest moods and less spiritual distress. In the new Apple TV+ series “Sunny,” however, Jones must access a greater range of emotions — even when they’re supposed to be partially concealed. Despite the fact that it was beloved by critics, adored by its fans and featured the greatest mustache in the history of television, Parks and Recreation was in constant jeopardy of being taken off of the air.
NBC treated the show so shabbily that during the sixth season, it was put on hiatus for months, and replaced with episodes of The Voice, an SNL clip show and a live version of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood. As Vulture noted at the time, this was likely because NBC wanted to boost viewership of Sean Saves the World, a Sean Hayes-led sitcom that lasted for just 13 episodes and is remembered by precisely no one.
Well, it turns out that Parks and Rec was even more endangered than many of us thought.

Piper Laurie, the three-time Oscar-nominated actress known for her performances in The Hustler and Carrie and for her outlandish two-character, two-gender turn on the original Twin Peaks, died Saturday morning in Los Angeles. She was 91.
Laurie had not been well for some time, her rep, Marion Rosenberg, told The Hollywood Reporter.
An Emmy winner who was nominated nine times during her career, Laurie spent three years as a child in a sanatorium, broke free from her original contract at Universal Pictures, once went 15 years without making a movie and starred in the original production — for live television — of Days of Wine and Roses.
In Learning to Live Out Loud, her frank 2011 memoir, she revealed that she lost her virginity to Ronald Reagan and that she had slept with Mel Gibson when she was twice his age. Laurie wrote the book because “my life had many secrets, and it was wearing,...

Rita Lakin, the boundary-pushing TV writer and showrunner who worked on Peyton Place, The Doctors and Mod Squad and created series including The Rookies and Flamingo Road, has died. She was 93.
Lakin died March 23 of natural causes at an assisted living facility in Novato, California, her son, writer-producer Howard Lakin, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Before her, they hadn’t thought about writing television from a woman’s point of view,” he noted.
Lakin also penned a groundbreaking 1975 episode of CBS’ Medical Center centered on a transgender character; served as a showrunner/executive producer on the 1976-77 CBS drama Executive Suite; and wrote such popular telefilms as 1971’s Death Takes a Holiday and 1973’s Message to My Daughter and A Summer Without Boys.
After she met some people from Texas whom she didn’t like, she rejected an offer in 1978 to create the pilot for a show about an oil family in the Lone Star State.

The current record holder for youngest Best Drama Actress Emmy winner is Zendaya, who took the 2020 prize for “Euphoria” less than three weeks after turning 24. Now that she is nominated for the HBO show’s second season, she could make further history as the youngest woman to ever collect multiple lead acting Emmys for a continuing series. In doing so, she would shatter the precedent set by 29-year-old comedic champ Mary Tyler Moore (“The Dick Van Dyke Show”) in 1966. She presently ranks behind only Peggy Lipton (“The Mod Squad”) as the second youngest two-time Best Drama Actress nominee.

In 2019 “Killing Eve” lead Jodie Comer triumphed as Best Drama Actress on her very first Emmy nomination, notably defeating her co-star Sandra Oh, who was then on her eighth career acting bid. The 26-year-old thus became the all-time youngest Best Drama Actress winner and held that record until the very next year, when she was beaten on her second outing by Zendaya. Now that she has been recognized for her work on the final season of “Killing Eve,” Comer stands behind only Peggy Lipton (“The Mod Squad”) among the youngest women to amass three Best Drama Actress nominations.

It’s been half a century since Johnny Carson hosted the 24th Emmy ceremony on CBS on May 14, 1972. It was a year in which now-classic comedies battled it out and records were set, PBS had its first strong showing, Oscar-winning actresses were rivals and daytime-themed Emmys were awarded for the first time. Read on for our Emmys flashback 50 years ago to 1972.

“Is It future? Or is it past?”
When the One-Armed Man Mike (Al Strobel) posed that question to Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in the second part of Twin Peaks: The Return, he may very well have been echoing the thoughts of the viewers. After all, Mike asked that question while sitting in the Red Room, the interdimensional waiting room that became the signature location during the original two-season run of Twin Peaks, and the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. In fact, Cooper wore the exact same suit and tie combo, and sat in the same chair from the original series.
Before Cooper could answer, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) entered the room, decked in the same black dress that she wore in the season two finale. Although MacLachlan and Lee had both clearly aged in the two and...

Kate Winslet’s tough but tender small-town police detective Mare Sheehan of HBO’s acclaimed crime thriller “Mare of Easttown” is the latest in a long line of female TV detectives including S. Epatha Merkerson (“Law & Order”); Helen Mirren (“Prime Suspect”); Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer); Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: Svu”) and Regina King (“Watchmen”).
Unfortunately, it took an inordinate amount of time for actresses to get a fair shake in police procedurals. Early TV crime dramas were inundated with the likes of taciturn toughies Lee Marvin (“M Squad”), Robert Taylor (“The Detectives”), Jack Webb (“Dragnet”) and Broderick Crawford (“Highway Patrol”). Way too much testosterone.

A note to producers and directors who want to work with Bill Murray: if you have a scene where he’s driving by himself in a car, the comedy legend may just disappear in the vehicle for hours.
At least that’s what happened to indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, who directed Murray in 2003’s “Coffee and Cigarettes,” 2005’s “Broken Flowers” and 2019’s “The Dead Don’t Die.” He revealed that quirky fact during a Zoom interview presented by the American Cinematheque with Murray and his “On the Rocks” writer/director Sofia Coppola. Murray earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for Coppola’s award-winning 2003 comedy “Lost in Translation.”
“Sofia, I would have been nervous about Bill driving off with nobody else and not come back,” said Jarmusch, as Murray chuckled. “Or maybe come back maybe a few others later. We’re like ‘Do you think Bill’s coming back?’ And then he does…...

Before Rashida Jones switched from plans for law school to acting in the late 1990s, she was immersed in the arts. Jones, the daughter of entertainment icons Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, grew up with the idea that “If you have something to say, you should say it.”
“It didn’t occur to me that there was a reason that I could be shut down,” Jones recalls.
But, Hollywood had other ideas — and, as a Black woman in the industry, she quickly noticed a pattern.
“I realized that it had nothing to do with me. There’s a systemic thing at work that I just happen to be not reaping the benefits from,” Jones explains. “There’s been many times in my career [where] I’ll say something or have an idea and it’s just washed over. “On the Rocks” marks the second feature film collaboration between Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray who scored a big hit both critically and commercially with 2003’s “Lost in Translation,” for which Coppola won the Oscar for her screenplay and Murray received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Five years ago, the two worked together on the Netflix special “A Very Murray Christmas,” which also featured “On the Rocks” star Rashida Jones as a bride-to-be whose wedding plans are set awry due to a snowstorm.
In Apple TV+’s “On the Rocks,” Murray plays Jones’ charming, womanizer of a father who believes her husband (Marlon Wayans Jr) is having an affair with a co-worker and convinces her they should spy on him. Director, actress and producer Rashida Jones recalls the first movie that evoked emotion for her: 1982’s “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”
“I remember very vividly being so emotionally overwhelmed,” Jones tells Variety‘s “Awards Circuit” podcast. “Especially the scene when he is sick and he’s dying. I remember being completely knocked over by how much I could feel.”
It wasn’t necessarily a movie that made Jones want to get into filmmaking and follow in the footsteps of her famous parents — legendary music producer Quincy Jones and late actress Peggy Lipton. But that film clearly struck a chord.
Jones has added several hyphens to her career in recent years: Acting in series such as “Parks and Recreation” and “Angie Tribeca,” executive producing others like “Claws” and “Black Af” (which she also stars in), writing projects like an episode of “Black Mirror,” and directing films such as “Quincy,” the music documentary about her father.

“It was like a ball of fire hit the Troubadour. When he got to ‘Take Me to the Pilot,’ the place levitated,” Linda Ronstadt said of the first night of Elton John’s 1970 residency at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. And as that show is depicted in the Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” the crowd in the audience does the same, soaring off their feet in a moment of musical magic.
Of course, Ronstadt and director Dexter Fletcher are embellishing a little bit – we’re quite sure no one literally defied the laws of gravity when John took the stage on that night on Aug. 25, 1970. Though for people who were there, it no doubt felt that way. Just look at this iconic photo of John sideways at his piano as he quite literally turned heads among those lucky few in the crowd.

When Rashida Jones paid tribute to her father Quincy Jones recently at a Netflix Fysee event in Hollywood, she assured him there would never be another person like him.
“I hope not,” the elder Jones cracked.
“No, there won’t be,” Rashida replied. “Don’t worry.”
The occasion for the tribute was a screening of the Netflix documentary Quincy, which Rashida directed with Alan Hicks. Over a span of 124 minutes it illustrates why there will never be, and could never be, another Quincy Jones. His accomplishments are too rare, too varied and unprecedented to be repeated.
“The feedback’s been great,” Rashida says of the film, which earlier this year won a Grammy Award for Best Music Film. “The whole purpose to make the film was really to give people the feeling of hanging out with my dad, like the kind of intimate hang that I personally want you to have.

The first A Dog’S Purpose was a gooey, family-friendly tear-jerker, but this 50-something dog-lover fell right into its heartfelt paws and it ended up on my top ten list of 2017’s best films. It told the story of one devoted dog who discovers the meaning of his own existence by dropping dead every half hour or so (after his life has run its course) and becoming reincarnated as a newborn pup with a diverse series of new owners. Josh Gaad voiced the hound and while the first film was like an episodic panorama of America as viewed through a dog’s innocent eyes, the sequel offers up a different narrative structure. A Dogs Journey focuses on Clarity Jane (fortunately shortened to Cj), the step-granddaughter of Dennis Quaid’s returning Ethan, and all of the different dogs (who have the same soul and are again voiced by Gaad) who guard...

“I spend a lot of time thinking of the Hereafter – each time I enter a room I wonder what I’m here after.” — Tim Conway (1933-2019)
Funny man Tim Conway, who died on May 14 at the age of 85, inhabited many lives as a TV sidekick staple in the ’60s and ’70s. He was the bumbling Ensign Charles Parker opposite Ernest Borgnine‘s Quinton McHale, the commanding officer of a U.S. Navy Pt boat during World War II. Conway’s goofy dimwit would often succeed in spite of himself. The series ran for four seasons from 1962 to ’66.
Conway would gain greater fame and acclaim on “The Carol Burnett Show” from 1967 to ’78, originally as a frequent guest during the variety series’ first eight seasons and later as a regular for the last three. His recurring characters in sketches included The Oldest Man who would take an eternity to achieve any action and Mr.

When teenager Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff sang along to Ella Fitzgerald on the radio, the Cincinnati native could never have predicted that, as Doris Day, she would go on to become one of the 20th century’s most beloved performers, first as a vocalist, then as an actress and then finally as an outspoken champion for the rights of animals.
But it was those radio sing-alongs that inspired Alma Welz Kappelhoff to send her daughter to a vocal coach, and by the time Doris was 17, she was singing for bandleader Barney Rapp, who convinced her to change her name to a more marquee-friendly length.
Day would go on to sing for the likes of Jimmy James and Bob Crosby, but it was her collaboration with Les Brown and His Band of Renown in the late 1940s that would rocket her to national stardom with hits like “Sentimental Journey” and “‘Till the End of Time.

As leggy and lithesome flower girl and undercover cop Julie Barnes on ABC’s “The Mod Squad,” Peggy Lipton, who is dead on age 72 from cancer on May 11, became a counter-cultural sex symbol alongside actors Michael Cole as long-haired Pete Cochran and Clarence Williams III as African-American Lincoln Hayes. The catchphrase for the series that lasted five seasons from 1968 to 1973, “One black, one white, one blonde,” might sound corny these days, but it was one of the first network shows to feature an integrated cast that also reflected the times were a-changing by tackling cases with social issues and using the cool jargon of the day.
