Netflix has renewed Danish Original drama series The Rain for a third and final season.
The internet network announced the news Wednesday on Twitter.
In The Rain, the world as we know it has ended. Six years after a brutal virus carried by the rain wipes out almost all humans in Scandinavia, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of their bunker to find all remnants of civilization gone. Soon they join a group of young survivors and together set out on a danger-filled quest through an abandoned Scandinavia, searching for any sign of life.
Set free from their collective past and societal rules, the group has the freedom to be who they want to be. In their struggle for survival, they discover that even in a post-apocalyptic world there’s still love, jealousy, and many of the coming of age dilemmas they thought they’d left behind with the...

Exclusive: High Fidelity is on the move. Disney+ 10-episode series starring Zoë Kravitz, which had been set up at Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, will relocate to fellow streaming platform Hulu.
The decision comes a couple of weeks after the close of Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox assets, which gave Disney controlling 60% stake in Hulu.
Disney+ is being billed as a service featuring programming that appeals to all ages while still conforming with the Disney brand. It runs the gamut of different demographics but it is considered a place for family-friendly fare vs. the more adult-oriented Hulu.
High Fidelity, from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka, Midnight Radio and ABC Signature, is a reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack with a female point of view. While the movie was rated R, reflecting the tone in the book, I hear the series was...

"Hi Rob. You f**king asshole."
Rob Gordon is a great example of a character not having to be likeable to be interesting and entertaining (He made it to number 16 on our totally definitive list of the Top 50 assholes in cinema).
Yet you can’t help but root for Rob, because he’s played by John Cusack, and John Cusack can make hitmen sympathetic. Plus, as evidenced by the first article I linked to, I am in no position to criticize anyone for making endless lists. As you are reading a website called Den of Geek, there’s a chance you can also relate to Rob’s obsessive behaviour.

After lengthy negotiations, Zoë Kravitz ("Big Little Lies") has been tapped to star and executive produce "High Fidelity," the reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack with a female point of view, which had been in development at Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service.
With Kravitz on board, the project has received a formal 10-episode order. The "High Fidelity" reboot hails from writers Veronica West & Sarah Kucserka, the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios (Smilf), and the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios. Midnight Radio is comprised of Scott Rosenberg — who co-wrote the High Fidelity feature — Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.
Kravitz will play the ultimate music fan, a record store owner who’s obsessed with pop culture and Top Five lists, a female take on the character played in the movie by Cusack.

The end of the world is pretty terrifying, no matter how it happens. In the upcoming Netflix series “The Rain,” the main culprit is a deadly downpour that wipes out most of Scandinavia’s population.
People outrunning killer weather isn’t entirely new in apocalypse stories (just ask Jake Gyllenhaal), but it looks like this show is more concerned with what happens years later, after two children who survived the initial attack venture back out into the world to find companions. Emerging from a bunker they’ve been locked in for half a decade, they eventually found people who had their own way of lasting through the killer precipitation.
After finding a small pack of other survivors, it’s clear that even though the streets and schools and supermarkets are deserted, the danger didn’t end when the deadly virus got swept away. There are guns and gangs and killer...

Exclusive: I hear a romantic comedy TV series inspired by Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack is in early development for Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer service. The project, a gender-swapped take on the classic title, comes from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Bull, Ugly Betty), the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios (Smilf), the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios. Midnight Radio is comprises Scott Rosenberg — who co-wrote the High Fidelity feature — Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.
Written by West and Kucserka, the High Fidelity TV series is described as a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials. I hear it centers on a record store owner — a female take on the character played in the movie by Cusack — talking straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships.

Did you know Tim Robbins has never been nominated for an Emmy? The Oscar winner hasn’t been as much of a fixture on television screens as he has been on the big screen, but now he could be recognized by the television academy with a Best Drama Actor bid for “Here and Now.” Created by Alan Ball (“True Blood,” “Six Feet Under,” “American Beauty”), this freshman HBO series centers on a multi-racial family whose bond is fractured when one of their children starts seeing things the rest cannot. Robbins plays Greg Boatwright, a philosophy professor and the family patriarch. In honor of his latest small-screen achievement, let’s take a look back at some of his best big-screen outings. Tour through our photo gallery above of Robbins’s 10 greatest films, ranked from worst to best.

Netflix has released a trailer for a new film called The Rain, which is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a group of young survivors who band together to try and continue to survive a virus that is carried by the rain. Basically, they have to do everything they can to stay dry. I know the premise sounds kind of silly with a tagline like, "Stay dry, stay alive", but it actually looks really good! It looks like the story will go into some very dark territory. The trailer has definitely sparked my interest. Watch the trailer for yourself and let us know if it sparks yours!

In a world where precipitation carries a deadly virus, an umbrella isn't just an item of luxury, it's a necessary tool for survival. We all have predisposed notions about the infamous “romantic comedy.” As with other genres, there’s a large subsection of offerings, giving it a bad name. But, for every tired, cliché-driven comedy, there is another impressive offering that redefines the genre, garners plenty of laughs, and tells an honest story about love and relationships, however warped they may be. In the coming weeks, we’ll take a look at the fifty romantic comedy films that should be seen. These may not all be classic films, but they certainly put a stamp on the industry and the genre we affectionately call “rom-coms.”

Those familiar with the off-kilter comedic duo behind the Danish TV series Klown (or Klovn as it is known in Denmark) — which spurned one of the most hilarious and inappropriate feature films of recent years — will know exactly what type of humor to expect from their sequel Klovn Forever. Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen star essentially as parodies of themselves in this Curb Your Enthusiasm-style comedy, combining mundane issues from their personal lives with some extremely outlandish situations. They push the boundaries of what is considered appropriate with their off kilter brand of humor, falling into categories that are intentionally offensive — such as misogyny and even racism. But therein lies the appeal: in these playful antics, here considered nonchalant, do we as an audience find humor in how outrageous and disrespectful they can be.

Imagine taking Curb Your Enthusiasm and mixing it with the gross out comedy of a movie like The Hangover. While not many people in the UK will have seen the television show, the film is an eye opener to something they just might like.

Title: Klown Director: Mikkel Norgaard Starring: Frank Hvam, Casper Christensen, Marcuz Jess Petersen, Mia Lyhne, Iben Hjejle Kind of loosely of a piece with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon’s “The Trip,” by way of ”The Hangover” or “Bad Santa,” Scandanavian import ”Klown” is another comedy that wrings most of its laughs from the premise that in the absence of a civilizing female presence males are apt to revert to despicable and idiotic behavior. A raunchy road movie and winner of the Best Comedy Film prize at last year’s Fantastic Fest, director Mikkel Norgaard’s is crisply acted and peppered with enough legitimately funny set-ups to win over the subtitle-averse, even if toward the end it [ Read More ]...

Klown has been called one of the funniest and raunchiest films of the year. GeekTyrant is giving you a chance to watch the movie in its entirety. Directed by Mikkel Nergaard, Klown stars Frank Hvam, Casper Christensen, Marcuz Jess Petersen, Mia Lyhne, and Iben Hjejle.
Synopsis:
In what critics are hailing as “the funniest movie of the year!” (IFC), Klown follows two wildly inappropriate friends — played by celebrated international comedians Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen — as they run amok through the Danish countryside, plowing through endless awkward confrontations and unspeakable debaucheries. Hopelessly wrongheaded Frank “kidnaps” the 12-year-old nephew of his pregnant girlfriend in an eager attempt to prove his fatherhood potential, and they join sex-crazed Casper on his secret adulterous weekend canoe trip. Rampaging through exclusive brothels, hospitalizations, armed robberies and even prison, the three paddle downstream from one chaotic misadventure to the next, all culminating in a surprisingly sentimental...

Long considered one of the funniest shows in Scandinavia, the television series Klown features Danish comedians Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam playing Curb Your Enthusiasm-style variations on themselves, getting into hysterically awkward encounters with friends and strangers, loved ones and frenemies, including other Danish celebrities such as actress Iben Hjejle (High Fidelity, The Boss of It All) and Jørgen Leth (the co-director, with Lars von Trier, of The Five Obstructions). Running for six seasons, it propelled the comic duo to the heights of Danish celebrity and mainstream popularity. Now there is a film version of Klown directed by Mikkel Nørgaard, who conceived and directed much of the series with Christensen and Hvam, an uproarious and vulgar and sneakily sentimental comedy, playing like an odd riff on the significantly inferior The Hangover series. Whether it is a canoe trip from hell or the single most unforgettable masturbation joke/set piece you’ll likely ever see,...

With “Klovn’s” television run finishing in 2009 after six seasons, celebrated Danish comedians Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen decided on a big screen transition to continue their socially awkward antics. Taking a page—whether coincidentally or not seems up for debate to some—from Larry David‘s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, their characters exist in a heightened state of normalcy. Uncomfortably dealing with life lessons alongside family and friends, these two buffoons obviously have a few screws loose when it comes to thinking before they act. Selfish, utterly aloof, and prone to ruining their lives with relative ease, the men of Klovn: The Movie [Klown] should appeal to many HBO subscribers as a result. Therefore, the fact this proud “Curb” hater found it off-putting, boring for stretches, and oftentimes misguided shouldn’t detract viewers from watching. Conversely, the surprising fact I started enjoying myself about halfway through might actually be a recommendation.

A Buffoon Buffet: Danish Comedy Brazen, Ballsy, Adult Fun
Witness the most surprising, and hands down, funniest film to be released in American theaters this year with Klown, the feature debut of Mikkel Nørgaard, based on his 2005-2009 Danish television series of the same name. Released in his native country in 2010, the film has managed to gain some notoriety playing at a small number of festivals stateside, the content so brazen, so daring, so adult (not pornographic, per se, but in its ability to be realistic in its comedic scenarios and not cop out to please the fantasies of the moral majority), that it reveals its closest American counterpoint, The Hangover to be the bullshitty scam it really is. And surprisingly, it’s got a crack at being dumped into American cinemas, though it may already be destined for cult superstardom since it is utterly offensive to mainstream sensibilities. Oh,...

High Fidelity
Two of our favorite John Cusack (2012) movies are High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank, and we’re thrilled to finally have them on high-definition Blu-ray.
2000′s High Fidelity and 1997′s Grosse Pointe Blank and both smart, fast-talking and very funny films.
Based on the book by Nick Hornby, High Fidelity tells the story of Rob (Cusack) a record store owner and compulsive list maker who’s having relationship issues. “What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?”
In my later teenage years, High Fidelity is probably the film I watched more than any other. Chicago – Some films never get a fair shot with audiences. They open in a handful of art house theaters scattered throughout the country before inconspicuously landing on DVD. Passionate movie lovers are left with the task of championing these unjustly obscure titles and helping them to acquire the audience they deserve. Before I reveal my picks for the top five films of 2010 that you probably didn’t see, here are the 10 runners-up.

The feisty, ever-questioning spirit of Carl Sagan is alive and well in Alejandro Amenabar’s fascinating and haunting historical epic. “Agora” functions as somewhat of an antithesis to “Passion of the Christ,” portraying the ancient ideological battles between Pagans and Christians with complexity, intelligence and a refusal to exploit its inherent violence. Rachel Weisz is at the peak of her radiance as Hypatia, a female scholar specializing in astronomy, philosophy and common sense.

Chicago – I often find that the most interesting characters in a ghost story are not the ghosts themselves, but the humans who encounter them. Ghosts are reflections of a past we are unwilling to depart from, even if it halts us from entering the future. It’s a consolation for us to believe that our departed loved ones view us as their “unfinished business.”
Like “The Sixth Sense,” “The Eclipse” is primarily a human drama with occasional jolts of chilling horror. It centers on a character we’ve all seen before, the haunted widower grieving over his wife’s death, yet the filmmakers refuse to turn him into a cliché. He’s played by Ciarán Hinds, one of the finest and most underrated character actors in recent cinema, who’s popped up in everything from “There Will Be Blood” to “In Bruges,” and will soon be known to American audiences...

Remember the John Cusack of the late '90s? He had been one of the beloved teens from the '80s, from Sixteen Candles to Say Anything... He continued to work steadily through the years, but it wasn't until 1997 that he found his resurgence with the double-tough whammy of Grosse Point Blank and Con Air. By the end of the decade, Cusack was Being John Malkovich, and as we turned to the double-zero, he became Rob Gordon in High Fidelity.
It was the role that seemed like it was made just for him, one that so easily could have failed in anyone else's hands. Here we have the story of a slacker striving to not reach his potential. He's prone to childish bursts of rage intermingled with pitiful weeping and desperation, and in fact, much of the film just outlines exactly how crappy he is. But Cusack commands it in a way that we follow.

My favorite scene in “The Sixth Sense” is not the final revelation, but the scene that precedes it, taking place in a stationary car where a mother and son share a stunning moment of spiritual catharsis. It’s the best scene of M. Night Shyamalan’s career, and should’ve garnered Oscars for actors Toni Collette and Haley Joel Osment. But more to the point, it beautifully articulated the innate need of mankind to connect with the world beyond, a truth that’s also powerfully...

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and won the Best Actor award for Hinds. Conor McPherson helmed from his own screenplay. The film is produced by Robert Walpole. "The Eclipse" is now available on VOD, Amazon & Xbox and opens in theaters Friday, March 26th. The very talented Belfast-born actor has been the lead in numerous prominent stage productions over his career, but on-screen, he is better known for some of the best cinematic supporting work of the past ten years: as the under boss of sorts to Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood; the slightly nerdy Mossad agent who falls for the absolutely wrong undercover woman in Munich; the President of Russia in The Sum of All Fears; and as an imposing, regal, but also very human, Julius Caesar in the HBO’s “Rome,” amongst many others. With The Eclipse, Hinds steps up to the top of the marquee, and the new suit fits him well. Ghost stories don’t come much more subdued than Conor McPherson’s The Eclipse. Then again, movies as a whole don’t come much more subdued than The Eclipse, a film of almost perverse quiet and unrelenting understatement. The volume only rises above a hushed whisper during Aidan Quinn’s somewhat hammy performance as an egomaniacal author trying to seduce fellow writer Iben Hjejle during a writers’ festival in a small Ireland town where the sky is perpetually grey. In a rare and welcome lead performance, veteran character actor Ciarán Hinds stars as a widower and father who has ...

As noted here last month when he joined Movieline for a round of My Favorite Scene, Irish actor Ciarán Hinds is known to work frequently. Ok, a lot. And this week, the face you know from scores of high-powered indies (including There Will Be Blood and Margot at the Wedding), studio blockbusters (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Race to Witch Mountain) and a TV watershed here or there (Rome) stars in his first leading role in The Eclipse. Writer-director Conor McPherson's genre-bending tale present Hinds as Michael Farr, a widower dealing with grief, single fatherhood, a clinically depressed father-in-law, a hyper-jealous prick (Aidan Quinn) going after a mutual love interest (Iben Hjejle), and ghosts. Or so Michael thinks -- and so the viewer thinks, thanks to McPherson's exquisite cocktail of atmospherics and jolts and Hinds's vulnerability to phantasmagoria of what may (or may not) be his own making.

How does someone show range while keeping each character truthful and believable? Of course that's the ultimate acting question. But to see powerful examples, watch Irish actor Ciarán Hinds in his vast variety of roles. From romantic leads (Captain Wentworth in 1995's "Persuasion" and Mr. Rochester in 1997's "Jane Eyre") to empire-builders (Gaius Julius Caesar in BBC/HBO's series "Rome"), from murderers (Jim Browner in "The Cardboard Box") to cartoon character (Botticelli the rat in "The Tale of Despereaux"), from working with Paul Thomas Anderson ("There Will Be Blood") to an upcoming "Harry Potter" film—there's no doubt he can do it all, while remaining true to each character's nature and each project's style. And that's just screen projects. He was cast by Peter Brook in the six-hour theatre piece "The Mahabharata," then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing the title role in Sam Mendes' "Richard III." Hinds also...

The Eclipse is a small, brooding Irish film that defies genre. Adapted from a short story by writer Billy Roche, it is, as director and screenwriter Conor McPherson says, "a love story, it's a ghost story, it's scary but it's moving, it's funny." Ciaran Hinds, the award-winning Irish actor of the stage and screen, stars as Michael Farr, a mourning widower with two small children and pipe dreams of being a writer. He helps organize and volunteers at a yearly literature festival in the small town of Cobh, and while he helps out a visiting author, Lena Morelle (Iben Hjejle), he thinks he's found someone who might understand just what he's been going through. Morelle writes about the supernatural, and unfortunately, Farr has been experiencing a bit of that in his life, or so he suspects. She, however, is involved with another visiting author, Nicholas Holden, played by Aidan Quinn,...

One of the movies that really took us by surprise at last year's Tribeca Film Festival was Conor McPherson's The Eclipse , a film set in a small Irish seaside town that mixes genres in a flud way we haven't seen very often in recent years. McPherson, an Irish playwright, essentially adapted the short story "Table Manners" from Billy Roche's collection "Tales from Rainwater Pond" and took it in a very different for the film. Ciaran Hinds, who also starred in McPherson's Broadway play "The Seafarer," plays Michael Farr, a lonely widower and father of two still not quite over the death of his wife, who is assigned to drive British horror author Lena Morelle (Iben Hjejle) around during the town's annual literary fair. Being that Michael has started...

Conor McPherson's Eclipse is part love story and part ghost story, about a widower named Michael Farr (Ciarán Hinds) who isn't sure if he's having terrifying nightmares or if his house is actually haunted. Thanks to a literary festival taking place in his hometown, he has the chance to consult with Lena Morelle, a supernatural-fiction writer (Iben Hjejle, High Fidelity), to whom he's immediately drawn. Hinds explains the subtle emotions behind his character's visitations. Q: The idea for this film came together while you were working with Conor McPherson on Broadway, in The Seafarer.A: Conor's work often has a supernatural, otherworldly element to it, and his friend Billy Roche had written this short story called "Table Manners" -- and, as usual, I can't figure out for the life of me why it has that title.
