Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy would’ve had a different actor playing a crucial role in the film. During a recent interview, director Stephen Sommers revealed that he tried to cast a famous Star Wars actor in the film. The character of Ardeth Bay in the film was initially written for an older actor and Sommers tried to cast Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones in the role. The director also considered Roscoe Lee Browne in the role, but both actors were busy with other projects.
Oded Fehr played the role of Ardeth Bay in The Mummy franchise
Sommers then had to rewrite the character to be played by a much younger actor and cast Israeli actor Oded Fehr in the role. The character returned once again in the sequel film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

Spoiler shields up! This article discusses events up to and including episode 3 of "Star Trek: Discovery" season 5.
Who knew we'd been watching an origin story? Last week, "Discovery" dropped the surprise reveal that the newly-introduced (former) Captain Rayner had been carefully maneuvered by the writing team to serve as a potential replacement to Mr. Saru (Doug Jones) in the position of Number One, despite firmly establishing himself as something of an antagonistic and far more reckless counterpoint to Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) during their near-disastrous away mission. It isn't every day that a Starfleet vessel recruits a new bridge officer at the onset of a critical assignment of top priority, let alone someone who was only just forced into early retirement after a scathing inquiry into his actions. But Burnham saw something in him (even if Ensign Tilly still can't figure out what that is) and with Saru off...

After spending years in development hell, during which time it passed through the hands of popular genre filmmakers like George A. Romero, Mick Garris, Clive Barker, and Joe Dante, a reboot of the 1932 Universal Monsters classic The Mummy made its way out into the world in 1999 with Deep Rising writer/director Stephen Sommers at the helm. Made on a budget of $80 million, the new take on The Mummy was a box office success, earning over $416 million worldwide. Mixing horror, adventure, and comedy, it was a film that could be enjoyed by adults while also serving as gateway horror for a new generation of genre fans. Many see The Mummy (1999) as a beloved classic these days – so it makes sense that Universal has decided to give the film a theatrical re-release for its 25th anniversary. It will be back on the big screen in theatres nationwide starting April 26th, and tickets...

"You have unleashed the creature that we have feared for more than 3000 years." Universal Pictures has revealed a new official trailer for the 25th Anniversary re-release of the beloved action horror movie The Mummy, considered by many to be one of the best 90's Hollywood blockbusters. It's returning to theaters later in April! Finally! I love this movie so much. At an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreak havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love. "As we celebrate its 25th anniversary, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back to the big screen. A fantastic opportunity for both devoted fans & newcomers to immerse themselves in the exhilarating adventure and timeless story." The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, with Oded Fehr as Ardeth...

What’s the saying? Oh yeah… third times the charm and the Resident Evil series is no exception. For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. So, let’s hit up the Sand Dunes of Vegas,...

When asked about the long journey to Star Trek: Discovery‘s fifth and final season, producer Alex Kurtzman is honest but optimistic. “It’s been an incredible ride for us,” Kurtzman tells Den of Geek when we chat with him at SXSW 2024. “And yeah, it was an incredibly bumpy first year.”
Kurtzman’s referring to the behind-the-scenes difficulties that plagued the show’s first two seasons. Initially developed by Bryan Fuller, who wrote for Deep Space Nine and Voyager before going on to make fan-favorite shows such as Hannibal and American Gods, Discovery ultimately premiered with Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts as showrunners. By the end of season two, both had left the show, with Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise stepping in as showrunners to right the ship.

As the dawn of the new millennium approached, the world would start to see a trend of films that would become very mainstream. These types of movies are action horror video game adaptations. As stated in our previous video, there have been a number of different ones, but nothing stood out more than Resident Evil. In 2002, we were graced with the first in this series. It may not have been the critic’s favorite, but it did well enough at the box office to spawn a sequel. The name of that sequel is Resident Evil: Apocalypse (watch it Here). With a title that big, you would think the filmmakers went for bigger, better and more destructive…right? For the most part, yes and they even packed in some surprises for fans of the series. So today on Horror Revisited we ask that you suit up and strap in for Alice...

It was when Alonso Ruizpalacios was in London working as a dishwasher at the (now-extinct) Rainforest Cafe that he came up with the idea for La Cocina.
“I was a drama student and I’d just read the [1957] play The Kitchen by Arnold Wesker and to make the work — which is tough, monotonous and very, very hard — bearable, I’d look at it through the creative lens of the play. If you see how a kitchen works, you realize it is much like the world, like [how] society works. Wesker says for Shakespeare all the world is a stage, whereas for him all the world is a kitchen.”
It was decades later, after success with Mexican films like Museo and A Cop Movie, that Ruizpalacios came back to the idea, taking The Kitchen as the jumping-off point for his English-language debut, transferring the action from late-’50s London to modern-day New York.

Egos are charred and tempers seared in La Cocina, a kitchen nightmare set in the engine rooms of a vast Times Square eatery where the staff have more pressing things to worry about than rising temperatures. Take Pedro, a hardened and still-undocumented line cook whose outbursts of ideology can only mask his resentments and vulnerability for so long. Then there’s Julia (Rooney Mara), who is carrying Pedro’s unborn child, hiding her morning sickness in the staff room and planning to sneak out on break to get an abortion. And then there’s Estela (Anna Diaz), our eyes and ears: fresh off the proverbial boat, with barely a word of English, asking strangers on the subway how to get to 45th street before being unceremoniously tossed into a lunch shift that soon resembles The Raft of the Medusa, adrift on a sea of Cherry Coke.

If “the kitchen as war zone” has become a veritable sub-genre unto itself, Alonso Ruizpalacios’ “La Cocina” is the closest thing it has to its own “Gallipoli.” The trenches are made out of stainless steel instead of rotten wood, and the steady bombardment of orders comes with a greater threat of deportation than it does that of immediate death, but a job at The Grill just outside of Times Square is no less dehumanizing than a deployment along the frontlines at Suvla Bay, and it comes without any of the same hope for glory.

Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios has had a winning record coming to the Berlin Film Festival since 2013, when his film Gueros took the Best First Feature prize. Five years later he was back with his second, the sensational museum-heist film Museo, and deservedly won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. His third, A Cop Movie, which plays with the traditional docu form by using actors, won Best Documentary at Mexico’s Golden Ariel Awards.
Ruizpalacios belongs in the same league as iconic current Mexican directors Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and particularly Alejandro González Iñárritu, whose cinematic style seems closest to what Ruizpalacios has been doing. His latest trip to Berlin, La Cocina, reinforces the thrilling talent of this singular filmmaker who for the first time has shot a film using both Spanish and English. It may seem hard to believe, but at one stage Resident Evil was not only the highest-grossing film series based on a video game, but also the highest-grossing horror film series period. Consisting of six movies and a reboot, the Resident Evil movies just kept making money even while they were being bashed by critics. Most of those critics arguably had valid points, but the arrival of a new Resident Evil movie simply became oddly comforting somewhere along the way.
Thanks to the creative voices of Event Horizon director Paul W.S. Anderson and his Fifth Element actress wife Milla Jovovich, six of the seven Resident Evil movies feature the character of Alice (Jovovich firing on all cylinders), a former security specialist and covert operative who initially has amnesia but eventually remembers she’s out to take down the insidious Umbrella Corporation, a global company responsible for Earth’s weirdest zombie apocalypse.

In Freeform’s adult animated comedy Praise Petey, New York “It” girl Petey St. Barts (Annie Murphy) becomes a southern cult leader after a father she never knew dies and leaves her his rather complicated legacy.
That includes an entire working town, a throng of comet-obsessed cult members and one hot (and morally superior) redneck named Bandit (John Cho). In desperate need of food and direction until an alien race comes to collect them, Petey’s prophesized arrival seemingly guarantees for the citizens of New Utopia that they will once again have a sense of purpose.
But the former New Yorker with mommy issues and (failed) magazine dreams understandably finds all the human sacrifice and human Shih Tzus (Alfred Molina) a little too much. So instead of merely taking the reins from her father, Petey — alongside Bandit, best friend Eliza (Kiersey Clemons), right-hand Mae Mae (Amy Hill) and old recordings...

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” began its domestic box office journey with $7.2 million in Thursday previews. That is almost on par with the $7.5 million earned by “Fast X” but well below “Rise of the Beasts” ($8.8 million), “John Wick: Chapter 4” ($8.9 million), “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($17.4 million) and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($17 million). Just doing the straight Thursday-to-weekend math, Disney’s latest tentpole could land anywhere between $50 million and $65 million in its opening weekend.
With mixed-positive reviews (66% fresh and 6.3/10 on Rotten Tomatoes) but an uncertain pull among younger moviegoers, Disney is hoping that the 2.5-hour actioner will pull general audiences and casual fans over the weekend as opposed to must-see-it-now opening night anticipation. Anecdotally, my in-laws already have tickets for a Saturday matinee.

Capcom's perennially popular survival horror video game franchise "Resident Evil" has been adapted for both film and television over the years, in live-action and animation. The franchise's cinematic debut began in 2002, loosely following the original game's plot of specialists investigating the nefarious pharmaceutical company the Umbrella Corporation. This leads to Umbrella unleashing the T-Virus, a genetically engineered virus that transforms those infected into ravenous, undead zombies.
While the live-action films have handled the video game source material with varying amounts of fidelity and controversy, there has also been a line of CG animated movies set in the same continuity as the games. Successful worldwide, the "Resident Evil" movies have earned their fair share of fans, including devotees of the games and those new to the franchise. With plenty of films to choose from across the original movie series, 2021 reboot, and animated features, here are the best "Resident Evil" films ranked from worst to best.

Blood & Treasure Season 2 will finally see the light of day this summer, with a catch.
TV Line reported Tuesday morning that the CBS adventure drama is moving to Paramount+.
The series is set to return for its 13-part second season Sunday, July 17, with a two-episode bow.
New episodes will be released Sundays for the rest of its run.
The series initially launched on CBS back in 2019 to a decent reception from the audience.
"Blood & Treasure is a fun, escapist adventure with comedic elements filmed in multiple locales around the world that has been a great performer and a wonderful addition to our summer schedule,” CBS said in June 2019, when the show was renewed.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 13
It’s been a long road. Because of a mid-season break, and a contemplative, slow-burn plot, Star Trek: Discovery season 4 probably seems a bit longer than it actually is. If any old school fans were worried Discovery couldn’t do a big-idea science fiction story without resorting to an action-adventure plot, the totality of season four proves those haters wrong. Fans will probably be split if this is the best season of Discovery, but, one thing’s for sure, from a tonal point of view, it was easily the most consistent. And, by the end of episode 13, “Coming Home,” the series seems to be confidently stepping into yet another new direction.
Here’s what happened at the end of the Star Trek: Discovery season 4 finale and what it might mean for season 5…

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 finale “Coming Home.”] Heading into the Season 4 finale, Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the Discovery crew are running out of time to save Earth and Ni’Var from the Dma. But since the franchise’s foundation is “optimism and hope,” as executive producer Michelle Paradise points out, it all works out. The crew’s able to get through to the Ten-c and explain the damage the Dma has done, and it is stopped before they lose Earth and Ni’Var — and Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) and the returning Tilly (Mary Wiseman). The Ten-c also helps to save Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala), whose punishment could be much worse for going against the Federation (though it will separate him and Burnham for a time). And United Earth is ready to rejoin the Federation, the president (Stacey Abrams!) reveals. Paradise breaks down the finale. How will Michael...

The following contains Star Trek: Discovery spoilers.
Star Trek Discovery Season 4 Episode 13
Star Trek: Discovery wraps up Season 4 with a fairly satisfactory if not necessarily groundbreaking finale that neatly wraps up most of its outstanding plot points in a bow by the end of the episode. This is a fairly impressive feat, given how much ground we needed to cover in this hour to begin with. Looking back on this season as a whole, it seems rather obvious now that the show would have done well to jettison some of the meandering middle episodes where not much happened in favor of making this finale more of a two-parter. If only to give some of its more obvious twists and contrivances a little more room to breathe.
Though “Coming Home” threatens our Discovery faves, most of the populations of Earth and Ni’Var, the 10-c themselves, and big chunks of the...

You know what I love more than a Cadbury’s Whole Nut bar? A low key Brit horror that delivers an atmospheric old school feel with an up to date vibe. The kind of Brit horror that knows exactly what it wants to be and acts accordingly. It delivers on the thrills and spills, serves up a big old dollop of ‘the f***’ and most importantly keeps you bloody well entertained for its runtime.

The makers of Lair, a new London set supernatural thriller are very confident that it will be a success. So confident that they’ve already started development on a follow up, The Bone Harvest. Is that wishful thinking, or does Lair have what it takes to launch a franchise?
Ben Dollarhyde is in jail, accused of killing his wife and son. There’s no question of whether or not he did it, we saw it in the prologue. He claims that he was possessed when the killing occurred, something that’s ironic since he and his partner Steve Caramore made a living debunking the supernatural.

Ben Dollarhyde (Oded Fehr) just murdered his wife and son. There’s no refuting it. He admits that his body committed the crime. His mind, however, did not. And while he knows saying that sounds crazy, he cannot stop himself from believing it and subsequently telling a colleague (Corey Johnson’s Steven Caramore) who might agree. Except Caramore has never been a believer in the supernatural despite the fact he, Dollarhyde, and Ola (Kashif O’Connor) have worked in the paranormal sphere for years. Rather than make a career out of testifying at trials and collecting cursed artifacts because demons are real, however, he’s done it precisely because nobody can prove their existence either way. It’s therefore an easy paycheck. Corroborate stories, feign expertise, and earn some “scratch” in the process.
Caramore is, however, offended by Dollarhyde’s accusation that he’s to blame for what happened. He’s...

"You brought that thing into my house!" 1091 Pictures has released the official trailer for an indie horror titled Lair, from filmmaker Adam Ethan Crow. This already premiered at FrightFest just a few months ago, and is arriving on VOD this November. A fractured family are forced to face their demons, metaphorically and literally, as they become embroiled in a man's attempt to prove the existence of a supernatural entity in order to overturn a friend's murder charge. It's described as "a new twist on the classic haunting horror formula" - this looks way freakier than it sounds written about here. The film stars Alana Wallace, Kashif O'Connor, Corey Johnson, Oded Fehr, Anya Newall, Alexandra Gilbreath, Aislinn De'ath, and Sean Buchanan. Uh yeah this looks extra spooky, with some good scares in this trailer alone. And they're still hiding plenty. This is way more than just "is there a demonic...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
After giving us the Guardian of Forever in episode 10, it was going to be hard for Star Trek: Discovery to try and top old-school Trekkie nostalgia. Luckily, the final few episodes of Discovery Season 3 aren’t really trying for over-the-top callbacks. Like the episode “Su’Kal,” episode 12 of Season 3 — “There Is a Tide..” — is fairly light on obvious Easter eggs and shout-outs. That said, some of the more subtle Easter eggs connect to much bigger aspects of canon. And, from a certain point of view, aspects of “There Is a Tide…” scan like a Disco remake of a very fun Tng episode!

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 5, “Die Trying.”
After four episodes of searching for what was left of the United Federation of Planets, the crew of the USS Discovery actually finds the new incarnation of their government, 930 years later. For a casual fan, the new Starfleet and United Federation of Planets may not seem all that different — after all, didn’t they have greyish uniforms kind of like that in the last Chris Pine movie, Star Trek Beyond? Superficially, Starfleet may have been given a sleek upgrade, but the look and feel of the most famous fictional space-faring organization isn’t actually the big news. Yes, we got a good look at a new (or old?) USS Voyager as well as several other shiny starships from the 32nd Century. But, the bigger changes fundamentally alter the context of what Star Trek is all about. Here are...

Star Trek Discovery season 3 reached its fifth episode last week, and it finally revealed the state of Starfleet in the 32nd century. Michael Burnham and the Discovery crew have been on a mission to reconnect the failing Federation of the far future, but in 3×05 “Die Trying,” they faced a tough obstacle – the limited scope and funds of the contemporary Starfleet, as run by the cynical Admiral Vance (The Mummy star Oded Fehr).
Starfleet HQ at this point in time is located at a station in a distant quadrant, where what’s left of its fleet hides behind a distortion field that’s fuelled by the combined energies of each ship. The Discovery crew, with their big dreams and old-fashioned optimism, receive a frosty welcome once they get clearance to enter. Vance believes that the Discovery should be decommissioned and its crew scattered to other positions.

Shelley Atkin, ex-vp theatrical finance for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at 20th Century Fox, has produced her first feature film “Lair,” under her new company Ditto Films’ banner.
The film is a U.K. based LGBTQ infused horror movie and is written and directed by Adam Ethan Crow. In the film, a fractured LGBTQ family are forced to face their demons, metaphorically and literally, as they unwittingly become embroiled in a man’s attempt to prove the existence of the supernatural in order to overturn a friend’s murder conviction.
