Before establishing Core Music Agency Ari Wise was himself an award winning film composer with over 200 credits to his name. A graduate of the University of British Columbia's Music Composition program, he began his professional career as a musician, assistant conductor and arranger. It was while in the last year of his degree that he was exposed to the art of film scoring and his focus became clear. In 1991 he was accepted into USC Thornton's world famous, "Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television" Advanced Studies Program. While there, he won both the ASCAP and the BMI award scholarships. The opportunity to study in L.A. with Bruce Broughton, David Raksin, and his idol, the late Jerry Goldsmith had a tremendous influence on his technique and approach to the art of creating music for the moving image. Ari has also completed a Certificate in Entertainment Law from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
After graduating from USC with honors, he returned to his native Vancouver and in 15 short years, he scored over 200 features, TV Movies, live and animated episodes of television, documentaries and short films. Some highlights include: "The Conclave" starring Brian Blessed and James Faulkner, "Police Academy, the Series" and "School of Life", starring Ryan Reynolds. In that time he also earned 2 Gemini Nominations (now Canadian Screen Awards), 1 Leo Award and 5 other Leo Nominations.
Ari hung up his patch cables in 2007 and turned his ear and his energy towards representing his fellow colleagues. Originally founded as, "The Canadian Composers Agency", his agency opened on day 1 with the largest media composer roster in the country.
His passion for the art and business of music in film has brought him to participate in film festival industry forums and discussion panels all over Canada. As well, he has been interviewed for, and been the subject of featured articles in some of the industry's leading publications.
