Glenn Close, who is enjoying her seventh nomination this morning for portraying the woman behind a world-renown writer in The Wife told Deadline that the role “was different than anything I had ever done before.”
Close has been nominated for four Best Actress and three Best Supporting Actress awards in such roles as Albert Nobbs, Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction, The Natural, The Big Chill and The World According to Garp — an incredible body of work so far (not to mention her work on stage).
The Wife, distributed by Sony Classics, was shot well before the #MeToo movement took hold – timing was everything as the story fits right in with the narrative of women finding their voices.
Close won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama earlier this month and spoke during her acceptance speech about her own mother “who really sublimated herself to my father her whole life,...

“It’s the best thing she’s ever done,” insists one Oscar voter after viewing Glenn Close’s performance in “The Wife” at a private screening recently cohosted by Martha Stewart in East Hampton, New York. “She’s got my vote.”
The screening generated significant academy buzz for the overdue star on the eve of the movie’s national release by Sony Pictures Classics on Aug. 17.
“Glenn Close perfectly expressed the whole spectrum” of emotions in her role as a woman who has ghostwritten for her famous literary husband and stayed in the shadows, according to best-selling author and fashion journalist Kate Betts. “Emotions from absolute devotion to absolute betrayal.”
“The Wife” is based upon a novel written 15 years ago by Meg Wolitzer, who was on hand for the screening. “The things that I was grappling with back in 2003 are eerily relevant to what men and women are going through today,...

It would be all too lazy to compare Terry Gilliam and his attempts to make a movie about Don Quixote to its main character – an old man foolishly picking fights with windmills. A better comparison might be Sisyphus, the mythological Greek king whose deceitfulness was punished by forcing him to roll a boulder uphill repeatedly, arduously and monotonously. It's an analogy Gilliam has made himself over the decades since he first got the idea to make the movie.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. **spoiler alert: there are spoilers here. Director: Christopher Lawrence Chapman. Writers: Christopher Lawrence Chapman, Jeff Miller. Cast: Danielle Harris, Katie Keene, Chris Hahn and Jeff Denton. Inoperable is an indie horror feature, from the filmmakers behind Clowntown (2016). This time director Christopher Lawrence Chapman and writer Jeff Miller set their horror feature in a rundown hospital, while a Category 5 Hurricane causes chaos outside. There are a lot of gruesome sights to be seen in the hospital. Sets look like something from a haunted house amusement ride. But, the film's final flourish misses a beat or two. Protagonist Amy, played by horror icon Danielle Harris, is a bit too unhinged to piece things together. Still, Inoperable is an entertaining watch, set in a scarred psyche. Inoperable is very much a horror film. There is the moody soundtrack,...

If you weren’t at John Lithgow’s 70th birthday celebration in London, you missed the chance to party with some of Britain’s most elite actors.
“My wife threw a 70th birthday party for me for about 50 people, and she and I were the only Americans,” the actor told IndieWire. “Maybe 60, 70 percent of these people were actors, but only half of them were actors from ‘The Crown.’ The others were people that I’d worked with on other projects – Jonathan Price, and Jim Broadbent, and David Suchet. They came in one after another and it was this constant moment of, ‘What are you doing here?’ They all knew each other.”

Chris here, with some heartwarming news: a film nearly twenty years in the making has finally wrapped filming. You'll remember Terry Gilliam's ill-fated attempts to adapt Cervantes's legendary Don Quixote to the big screen as they were told in the documentary Lost in La Mancha - floods, lost funding, and casting woes made this film one of the most notorious productions of all time.
But now Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote will rise from the ashes of cinema history. Gilliam has completed filming - with a new cast that includes Adam Driver, Jonathan Price, and Stellan Skarsgård - and Amazon will bring the film to theatres sometime next year. Someone please protect the digital print (or film, if Gilliam went that route) from any mishandling so that Gilliam isn't put through the ringer again!
Gilliam's last film The Zero Theorem came and went quietly,...
