Secret Superstar
Starring Zaira Wasim, Aamir Khan
Directed by Advait Chandan
It is easy and comforting to get swayed by the rags-to-riches fable constructed with such contemporary diligence and zeal by first-time director Advait Chandan. But once you get to penetrate the bubble of bonhomie and get into thick of things, so to speak, you come face-to-face with an unnerving sterility.
Secret Superstar is one of those well-meaning films that keeps reminding you constantly of how well-meaning it is. Many times as I watched Advait Chandan’s panoply of tricks and treats I felt I was being offered a Christmas deal with ‘Santa’ Aamir Khan mentoring the film’s 15-year old wanna-shine Zaira Wasim whose brilliance as an actor is far more dazzling than anything that is written into this film to support her dreams.
Everyone, we are told in many different ways in this stretched-out ode to wish-fulfilment, has the right to dream.

Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha
Starring Shiv Darshan,Natasha Fernandez, Upen Patel
Directed by Suneel Darshan
This is a film for the diehard romantics who still believe love lasts for many lifetimes. Quite the other end of the spectrum from Imtiaz Ali’s Jab Harry Met Sejal where Ms Sharma is heard discussing the legal ramifications of random “intercourse” with Shah Rukh Khan.
Suneel Darshan’s chaste love birds played by his son Shiv and newcomer Natasha Fernandez, are strictly old-school. Shiv shows some growth as an actor. He plays Deodhar, a mysterious figure who moves around as a spirit in the picturesque locales of England, who wooes the pretty girl Natasha with Nadeem’s song which spill put in atorrent of effusion.
It’s good to see a Bollywood film paying heed to the tradition of protagonists singing songs on screen. There is plenty of lip-sync singing in this film.

Suneel Darshan’s Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha is an exhilarating journey of romance, passion, intrigue and thrill that is set to release in cinemas on 30th June 2017. With music by Nadeem (of Nadeem-Shravan fame), Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha features Shiv Darshan, Upen Patel and introduces actress Natasha Fernandez.
As the director gears up his forthcoming romantic mystery, Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha, there is buzz that this film is a sequel to the 2000 hit Dhadkan.
Suneel Darshan, however, clarifies, “Ehtedt has got nothing to do with Dhadkan. It is an absolutely fresh subject. Also, the music is more contemporary; something that one would want to hear from Nadeem in the present time. The movie does have a love triangle, but it has more layers to it and comes somewhere from the world of classic English movies. So there are absolutely no comparisons.”

Suneel Darshan’s Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha is a forthcoming musical thriller starring British Asian actor Upen Patel, Shiv Darshan and introducing new find Natasha Fernandez.
While music has always been the Usp of all Darshan’s films like Lootere, Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love, Andaaz and Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, as well as besides the brilliant narrative and superlative performances by the actors, Darshan has ensured that the music of Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha too has an enduring value. Producers Shabeer Boxwala, Ajay Shah and Himanshu Gandhi are coming together to produce ‘Ishq Forever’ under their banner Friday Cine Entertainment and Shabeer promises a love story with a few twists and turns.
Elaborating on the same, Shabeer said, “We decided to make Ishq Forever as we felt that since a long time, a pure love story that can be watched with the entire family has not been made in a long time. However, I must add that Ishq Forever is not a typical love story and has enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.”
Another reason why Ishq Forever is much talked about is because it marks the comeback of legendary composer Nadeem Saifi. Interestingly, it was Nadeem, who suggested that the makers should cast newcomers in the film.

Legendary composer Nadeem Saifi will be seen making his comeback to Bollywood with upcoming rom-com Ishq Forever and though the composer is glad about the comeback, he also seems quite disappointed with the way Bollywood music is getting influenced by the West.
Elaborating on the same, Nadeem said, “As far as music is concerned, we are completely influenced by the West and there is just a lot of noise in music today. Most of the songs made today lack melody and soul and though there have been a few good numbers, they are far and few. I would request composers and lyricists to bring back our Indian flavor in their work. My song ‘Dheere Dheere’ has been remade and is cherished even today, which proves that today’s youngsters still enjoy melody and soulful lyrics. I would love it when Western music gets influenced by us and not the other way round.

2014 was a fantastic year for music in Indian Cinema. We saw a definite shift from formularistic numbers to more nuanced tunes in step with the respective screenplays they would be featured alongside. Music directors were bold and brave, breaching familiarity and conventions to taking risks and we could not be more mesmerised by the results. Hamlet was adapted to a gritty and raw musical by Vishal Bhardwaj. Ankit Tiwari and Mithoon basically defied gravity by re-creating the magic of Aashiqui 2 with Ek Villian. Read on as Bollyspice closely chronicles 2014’s top 10 music directors.
10. Jeet Gangulay
Jeet Gangulay’s Citylights was the silent hit of 2014 with Arjit Singh’s Mukurane becoming a crowd favourite from the get-go followed closely by Mohd. Irfan’s unplugged version of the song. While Youngistan did not do well at the box office, Gangulay’s ‘Sangemarmar’ definitely left a mark. Similarly, ‘Sun Le Zara’ from Singham was equally effective.

It is where hearts meet, auntyjis gossip and kids have a blast. Navratri shin-digs are the ‘it’ get togethers in the Desi calendar every year. It’s a nine day long festive period where everyone joins in daily for a night of song and dance. Apart from being the social get together of the year the festival has a strong religious meaning. It celebrates nine forms of Goddess Durga, one on each night, hence the name nav-nine ratri-nights. The 10th day is the festival of Dashera, marking the ultimate triumph of good over evil in Indian history.
Unlike any other usual festival, navratri songs and dance are specific. They have a distinct beat and the dance form adopted is garba or dandiya. The song and dance routine of the night, garba or dandiya, also have a strong historical backing as depicts the rasa-lila between Lord Krishna and the gopis of Vrindavan.

He told BBC Asian Network that he doesn't want to die without getting justice.
He told the presenter Bobby Friction that he didn't want his parents to die without hearing that he was innocent, asserting that his parents are lying ill in their beds, and he much.

The veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan who has been penning successful lyrics for 30 years is in the eye of a litigation storm. The Madariya Sufi community has sent a legal notice to actors Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif, producers Yash Raj Films and lyricist Sameer Anjan for the song Malang in Dhoom 3. The community has apparently accused the song of hurting its religious sentiments. But Sameer who has in the past written lucid songs like 'Nazar Ke Saamne' (Aashiqui), 'Tum Paas Aaye' (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' says he is proud of the 'Malang' song. Even I was pulled up unnecessarily for an earlier song 'Anarkali Disco Chali' in Housefull 2. There was legal...

Islamabad — Pakistan stars in "Zero Dark Thirty," from early scenes at a detention site to the dramatic closing minutes as Navy SEALs assault the hideout of Osama bin Laden. But the Academy Award-nominated film about the hunt for the al-Qaida leader has sparked a controversy here about its portrayal of the country, and it will likely not be shown on the local big screen anytime soon.
Partly, the film taps into national discomfort that bin Laden was found to be living for years near Pakistan's equivalent of West Point, and anger over the U.S. decision to enter its airspace and raid the compound without giving advance notice. Doubts about whether bin Laden was really hiding out for years in the city of Abbottabad are also common across Pakistan, a country where conspiracy theories often have more weight than fact.

Raaz featured music by Nadeem-Shravan while Raaz – The Mystery Continues featured music by Raju Singh and Toshi-Sharib, the second being very contemporary and the first relatively traditional. Both, immensely popular.

If all goes as per plan, Bollywood would pretty much be creating a record of maximum number of sequels/franchises/prequels releasing this winter. At last count, as many as four such films are slated for release in the last five weeks of the year. With more films already in production, this number may well go up. The man seeing all such competition building around himself? Salman Khan. "First sequel to be announced for winter release was of course Salman Khan's Dabangg 2, shooting of which is starting this month. However, slowly but steadily, many other films have stepped in the fray as well. These are Race 2, Aashiqui 2 and the newest entrant Shootout At Wadala. There are going to be a lot of 'familiar' films that audience would be exposed to this winter", says an industry insider. Traditionally last quarter of the year is considered to be the...

You may recall that the 90s era was called the musical era. One of the films that contributed majorly towards this was the musical smash hit Aashiqui that made overnight superstars out of Rahul Roy, Anu Agarwal and music composers Nadeem-Shravan. As the current trend of sequels and remakes go, this film too was under consideration for long to be remade. But the makers of the film were stuck up with the man who will be wielding the directors' hat. Mahesh Bhatt has gone on record to say that they had earlier finalized Vishal for the project, but now they have scrapped that idea and found a fresh one. And that's the reason that, post Murder 2,...
