Back when video shops and horror aisles were still common, it was hard not to be creeped out by the classic box art for The Fear. Wooden antagonist Morty attacks onlookers with his unrelenting stare. The tagline “He’s Whatever Scares You The Most” is as intriguing as it is foreboding. And while this 1990s horror oddball has found itself a fanbase over the years — albeit a small one — its sequel continues to go unnoticed. A lot of folks don’t even know it exists to begin with.
Not too long after Morty’s debut, someone gave the mannequin a killer makeover. Whether or not the update was an improvement is arguable, and reviews of this sequel are indeed more negative than that of the original. However, The Fear: Halloween Night has at least one thing its predecessor doesn’t: a clearer sense of identity.

The Amazing Johnathan, the veteran magician and comic who headlined in Las Vegas for more than a decade and appeared often on television including stand-up specials and David Letterman’s shows, died late Tuesday at his home in Las Vegas. He was 63 and had been struggling with health problems including cardiomyopathy for several years.
His wife, sideshow stunt artist Anastasia Synn, confirmed the news to the Las Vegas Journal-Review today. “I’m losing my beautiful, brilliant husband,” she’d said Tuesday on social media.
Born John Edward Szeles on September 9, 1958, in Detroit, he began doing street comedy in San Francisco as in the early 1980s and starting landing guest spots on TV including Thicke of the Night, Up All Night and Late Night with David Letterman. He would go on to appear many times on Letterman’s show on NBC and later CBS.

Well, March is definitely “going out like a lamb” (as the old saying goes) when it comes to horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, as there are only several different titles coming home this Tuesday.
Universal Studios is releasing J.A. Bayona’s heartbreaking modern fable, A Monster Calls, to both Blu-ray and DVD this week, and if you're a cult film fan, then you have a few fun movies to look forward to adding to your home collections: Witchtrap, Venom, and the four-film collection for Wishmaster, a new addition to the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.
Other notable releases for March 28th include Mortuary Massacre, The Abduction of Jennifer Grayson, Park Chan-Wook's The Handmaiden (which finally gets the Blu-ray treatment), and for the little monster fans, Monster High: Electrified.

The films are an example of diminishing returns, but the collection is more than the franchise’s fans could have wished for.
There are rumors that Lionsgate’s fantastic Vestron Video line of remastered, supplement-filled Blu-rays celebrating horror films from the ’80s and ’90s may be closing up shop. It’s unconfirmed, and LG themselves have been mum on the subject, but it would be an unfortunate turn of events for genre fans if true. They’re only nine releases in, but already they’ve done tremendous work with fantastic new editions of fun classics like Chopping Mall, Waxwork, and The Gate.
Their most recent release, and possibly their last if the rumor proves true, is the four-film Wishmaster Collection. As someone who had never seen the first film and was utterly unaware that three sequels even existed this set offered a first-time watch across the board. So of course I binge-watched all four across a single...

I love a good magic trick just like the next guy. There are times when it’s fun to see something that simply amazes you and you just can’t figure it. In fact, even though we know all of this stuff is illusion, it’s still pretty fun to watch. That’s why while it’s commonplace to poke fun at magicians as seen in cinema and television, you rarely see the elite guys getting tossed around. How about guys like David Copperfield, Chris Angel, or David Blaine? You gotta respect what these guys are capable of. Real or not, you have to

We’re back to dissect another remake and this time we’re taking a bite out of a vampire movie. The original version was a classic but the remake does not quite measure up. This week, Cinelinx looks at Fright Night (2011).
When the remake of the classic vampire film Fright Night (1985) came out in 2011, the initial reaction was very positive because it was such a relief to have truly evil vampires back. After the brooding and sparking vampires of Twilight started a trend of angst-ridden or lovelorn or depressed vampires, fans were thrilled that the blood-sucking antagonist of director Craig Gillespie's new Fright Night remake and his fellow vamps were hard-core predators with no reservations about chowing down on their next-door neighbor. The Fright Night creatures-of-the-night were more Dracula than Edward. It was good to have the badness back. However, upon reflection, the 2011 version doesn’t hold up that well.

Family is obviously a major theme on Game of Thrones, with the relationships between fathers and their children at the core.
Children are forced to grow up quickly in the realm if they hope to see the seasons change more than once. However, as we saw in "Kissed by Fire," one's duty to thy father has no expiration date, so long as he still breathes.
Cersei put Little Finger in motion to uncover the Tyrell's plotting, but the truth that was revealed steered her and Tyrion's futures in a very undesirable direction. Despite any power and influence one may achieve over the years, offspring are forever pawns of their dads in the Seven Kingdoms, as we saw when Tywin pulled out a major twist to end this week's episode.

Time for a twisted take on a very special subset of the business they call show (which is like no business I know). Yup it’s another flick about (exploding hand gesture)…magic! Very hot on the heels of last week’s box office behemoth Oz: The Great And Powerful, comes another story of an illusionist. This is a more modern and comic take on this entertainment staple that certainly pre-dates the wagons and caravans of Oz. Magicians soon went from those carnival side shows and became sensations of live theatre with Harry Houdini, perhaps achieving the greatest fame (folks still gather every Halloween awaiting his return from the great beyond). They even inspired a long-running newspaper comic strip, Phil Davis and Lee Falk’s “Mandrake the Magician”. When television began in the late 1940′s they immediately snapped up these performers for their visual appeal. A few hosted their own...

Set in the world of Las Vegas Stage magicians, the new comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone stars Steve Carrell as an egotistical magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) is threatened by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). We have our first look, thanks to USA Today, at the movie, with Carrel and Buscemi in full costume, looking very Sigfried and Roy-like. If there isn't a gag involving a tiger, the film makers have really missed a step. There is also a still form the film featuring Carrell and a very different looking Carrey, who seems to be going for the Chris Angel/David Blaine look. Released: 15th March 2013...

Fright Night Directed by: Craig Gillespie Written by: Marti Noxon (screenplay) and Tom Holland (story) Starring: Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant, Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots Now this is how you do a remake. Culling plenty from the 1985 source material, Fright Night puts enough of an original twist on the story to warrant this 2011 update. It is the rare remake that improves on the original, and successfully modernizes the tale while staying true to its roots. The original tale was campy, frightening and fun. So is this version. Plus, there is no irritating synthesizer score accompanying the entire film. Anton Yelchin takes over the duties of high school student Charley, a nerdy teenager who has somehow managed to nab resident hottie Amy (Imogen Poots) as his girlfriend. He lives with his mother Jane (Toni Collette) in a nondescript taupe hued suburban neighborhood in Las Vegas. When mysterious stranger Jerry...

A trailer for Make Believe, the film which won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, has been released. The film follows six teens as they make their way to Las Vegas to attend the World Magic Seminar and compete for the title of Teen World Champion. This of course is the very same seminar that launched some of the biggest names in magic into the spotlight including Chris Angel. Director J. Clay Tweel follows the adolescent outsiders who all share an extraordinary passion for the art of magic. Armed with great skill and a dazzling array of illusions, these teenagers embark from the varied hometowns, each with the hope to be named Teen World Champion by master magician Lance Burton.

A brand new banner image of David Tennant in the upcoming remake of Fright Night has just been uncovered at what seems to be the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. This is Tennant’s first film role since departing his long time position as Doctor Who. He is playing a character, Peter Vincent, which seems to be a cross between Chris Angel and Jack Sparrow.
In the original Fright Night, this character was played by Roddy McDowell and was a broken-down, out of work horror TV host. In this version Vincent will be a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the film’s protagonist teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

New images from the currently filming remake of 1985's "Fright Night" depicts David Tennant in a publicity banner for his character Peter Vincent, a Chris Angel type Las Vegas Magician. The goatee'd magic man is almost unrecognizable from Tennant's hugely popular portrayal of the title character of the long running BBC television show "Dr. Who." Peter Vincent was originally a washed up old actor who hosted a late night horror movie show called "Fright Night." Roddy McDowall played him as a sad and fearful shell of a man who finally redeems himself while helping the main character, Charley Brewster, vanquish...

"When in Rome" is going to have a tough time knocking off "Avatar" and Mel Gibson's "Edge of Darkness" at the box office this weekend, but that doesn't mean that the Kristen Bell/Josh Duhamel romantic comedy doesn't have it's moments. The flick features some intriguing supporting performances by "Napoleon Dynamite's" Jon Heder and "Blades of Glory's" Will Arnett. Both actors play characters who are "magically" in desperate love with Bell's character after she picks up their "wish coins" from a famous Italian fountain. The over-the-top scenario finds Heder mocking Chris Angel with his wannabe magician turn and Arnett puts on an...

If you.re a Napoleon Dynamite fan odds are that you.re absolutely not planning to go see When in Rome this weekend. Despite the presence of Jon Heder in both, Jared Hess.s awkward quirk-com and Mark Steven Johnson.s rom-com are clearly geared for very different audiences. But if you are a Dynamite fan, them I.m here to give you the heads up: You might want to buy a When in Rome ticket. Heder appears in the movie as a zany, Chris Angel-like magician who lusts after Kristen Bell. Who wouldn.t? But for reasons that are utterly inexplicable, at one point in the film Heder abandons his Lance the Magician persona to become, weirdly, Napoleon Dynamite. And then Pedro shows up. Not just Efren Ramirez, the guy who plays Pedro, but Efren Ramirez actually playing Pedro. It comes out of nowhere, has absolutely nothing to...
