When CBS announced it was canceling CSI: Vegas, it didn’t warn the showrunners. This means that fans won’t be happy when watching the season finale, knowing the show is ending. One of the show’s stars said “major cliffhangers” are in the finale that will never be resolved.
Here is what fans can expect from the CSI: Vegas finale.
CSI: Vegas To End With Unanswered Questions
When CSI: Vegas returned to TV, three of the show’s original stars returned. William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) returned to CSI as did former police detective Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle). However, they left after one season and the hope was that fans would latch onto the new cast. The series brought back Marg Helgenberger to reprise her role as Catherin Willows in the second and third seasons to fill the gap.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune: Part Two are still going strong at the box office, with both movies celebrating milestones this weekend.
From DreamWorks Animation and Universal, the Jack Black-voiced Kung Fu Panda 4 dethroned Dune 2 in its sophomore weekend with an estimated $30 million from 4,067 theaters as it leaped past the $100 million mark to finish Sunday with a 10-day domestic total of $107.7 million. Overseas, it grossed another $39.6 million for a foreign tally of $68.6 million and $176.4 million globally. The pic fell a respectable 48 percent domestically.
Not far behind was Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2, now in its third weekend. The Legendary-Warner Bros. tentpole is the first release of 2024 to clear $200 million domestically. The pic earned an estimated $29.1 million from 3,847 cinemas, putting its North American total at $205.3 million.
Overseas, the sequel — starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya — earned another $51.2 million this weekend from 73 markets for a dazzling foreign tally...

Mark Wahlberg is back with “Arthur the King.” And the typical Wahlberg experience has been suitably augmented by a very sweet ingredient: the addition of an adorable dog (the titular Arthur). Put your paws together everyone.
Based on the best-selling memoir “Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home” by Mikael Lindnord, it details a group of mountain climbers who, on a competition, meet the little dog, who ends up being a key member of the team. Wahlberg plays a character based on Lindnord, the elite Swedish athlete who gave meatballs to a starving stray dog that ended up changing his life. (Lindnord ended up writing another book about how rescue dogs save our lives.)
Action, adventure, a very cute dog. What more could you want? Exactly. Here’s how to watch “Arthur the King” right now and where to expect it on streaming.
When is the release date?...

Mark Wahlberg is not just a Hollywood superstar; he is a real-life hero. We know how dedicated he is to his profession and, of course, fitness. Not only that but despite sustaining an unbearably painful injury, he is a kind colleague who saved hundreds of jobs for the cast and crew of his upcoming flick.
With Simon Cellan Jones directing, the 52-year-old actor is gearing up for Arthur the King, his next adventure movie. During filming a particularly difficult scene, Wahlberg—who is renowned for his solid work ethic and dedication to his roles—suffered a serious injury. Most actors would have called it quits, but not the Boogie Nights actor.
Indeed, he could not bear to think of disappointing his crew or the other cast members, so he endured the unbearable pain in order to see the project through to the end.

Netflix just unveiled the line-up of films they’ll be releasing in 2024, and missing from that list is the Halle Berry sci-fi movie The Mothership – which, as we reported last week, Netflix has decided not to release at all. At the time, their decision to scrap the movie was reminiscent of Warner Bros. scrapping the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt (as well as a couple other Scooby-Doo projects). But, while at a media event yesterday, Bela Bajaria, who is currently serving as chief of Netflix’s film division, said the producers of The Mothership agreed with Netflix that the movie shouldn’t be released. This is different from what goes on at Warner Bros., where filmmakers are shocked and upset to hear their work is being tossed in the trash.

Back in 2021, a Netflix production called The Mothership was filmed with Halle Berry in the lead role and Bridge of Spies writer Matthew Charman at the helm, making his feature directorial debut. Unfortunately, there have been “multiple delays in post-production” for unspecified reasons… and now Variety has confirmed that Netflix has made the decision to scrap the film instead of completing post-production.
Most people thought it was a questionable move when Warner Bros. decided to scrap the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt for the purpose of tax write-offs, but apparently Netflix thought it was a good idea, since they’ve decided to do the same thing with this project.
If we had the chance to watch The Mothership, we would have found that the story of the sci-fi movie took place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm.

Netflix is being accused of “Batgirling” Halle Berry’s sci-fi The Mothership after reports that the streamer has scrapped the film.
Halle Berry was due to star in The Mothership, a sci-fi thriller backed by Netflix. The film, directed by Matt Charman, was due to be released in 2023 but didn’t see the light of day – and now it looks as though it never will.
According to Jeff Sneider’s newsletter, Netflix has scrapped the release altogether in favour of a tax write-off.
Does that sound familiar? Warner Bros. Discovery recently came under fire for shelving the already completed Batgirl, while Coyote Vs. Acme is currently trying to find a studio to release the film.
Sneider cited trouble with a lengthy post-production schedule and “significant reshoots” as part of the reason Netflix have decided to abandon ship.
Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, Sydney Lemmon, John Ortiz, and Paul Guilfoyle were also due to star alongside Berry.

"The deaths – are they accidents... or murder?" Screen Media Films has unveiled the official trailer for a thriller titled The Man from Rome, which is the English title given to this Spanish film starring Richard Armitage in Italy. This already opened in Europe last year under the original Spanish name La Piel Del Tambor, though it doesn't seem like it's good enough to get a proper theatrical release in the US. Vatican intelligence operative Father Quart (Richard Armitage) investigates an anonymous message sent to the pope concerning a crumbling Spanish church that "kills to defend itself". Sent to Seville to investigate, a deep conspiracy unfolds that puts Father Quart's loyalty and his faith to the test. Armitage co-stars with Amaia Salamanca, Paul Guilfoyle, Paul Freeman, Rodolfo Sancho, Fionnula Flanagan, Carlos Cuevas, along with Franco Nero as "El Papa", The Pope. Mitchell Leisen’s great Christmas-time tale has a brilliant screenplay by Preston Sturges and letter-perfect performances by Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray, threading the needle between light cynicism and well-earned sentiment. Sturges’ celebration of ‘country values’ is sincere and heartfelt, as is his affection for the supporting cast. The presentation includes two radio broadcasts plus a star-studded Paramount short subject for war bonds.

With the temps falling and the leaves slowly changing, lots of folks may be thinking of taking a trip to New England. Perhaps you could “hunker down” in a quaint old house by the water. Hey, if you’ve got the moola, maybe you could just buy the place, and make it your getaway, or permanent “digs”. Oh but most of us would have to do this vicariously, maybe at the movies. But who would you contact about such a fantasy home, say in a rustic lil’ village? And that is answered in this week’s star-powered release. Surely such a spot would be free of worries, “no hassles, no hustles”, right? Not really, as this film’s focus finds out. It seems you’re never safe from those “inner demons”, not even at The Good House.

“CSI” Og Marg Helgenberger will return to the role of Catherine Willows for “CSI: Vegas” this fall, a continuation of CBS’ long-running forensics crime franchise, and on Friday the actress revealed part of the reason you’ll see her back is because she missed her character.
“When I left, midway through Season 12 of the original series, I needed to step back because I played the role for so long, and it had become such a part of my life that I felt she had become a part of my identity a little bit,” the actress said during CBS’ presentation at the Television Critics Association virtual summer press tour. “Having that perspective of being away from her and then coming back and in a big way as this, I did miss her actually. I missed her; I missed her passion; I missed her swagger; I missed her spunk.”

Ah, "Air Force One." That fine bit of '90s pulp escapism, complete with across-the-board actioner performances (Glenn Close! Paul Guilfoyle! Dean Stockwell! William H. Macy!) punctuated by Gary Oldman's neo-Soviet baddie Egor Korshunov -- chronologically performed back-to-back with his sci-fi agent of chaos Zorg in Luc Besson's "The Fifth Element" -- and the greatest movie president of all time, Harrison Ford's stiff-upper-lipped James "Get off my plane" Marshall. Not to mention, Jerry Goldsmith's main theme that should have also served as the "Avengers" theme, to be honest.

It might not just be the new CSIs in Season 2 of the sequel to the long-running hit. Marg Helgenberger, who played Catherine Willows in the original CSI for 12 seasons, is “in talks” to return to the franchise, TVLine reports. This possible return comes after it was announced the two original series stars who appeared in the first season of CSI: Vegas — William Petersen and Jorja Fox — will not be back. When Fox’s Sara Sidle returned to Las Vegas in the sequel’s premiere, following an attack on Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), she told him, “Catherine has rolled out a red carpet. She would be here, you know that, if she could.” Jim agreed, “she’s got a little grandbaby in Dublin.” So if Helgenberger does sign on, what might bring Catherine back to Vegas? Could it be the new serial killer introduced at the end of the Season 1 finale?...

One of the tightest races at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards is Best Film Ensemble, which has led to a Best Picture Oscar nomination for nearly every winner of this category since the guild began handing out awards for the 1995 film year. According to Gold Derby’s SAG Awards predictions for Film Ensemble, this year’s five nominees will be “Belfast,” “The Power of the Dog,” “West Side Story,” “King Richard” and “Don’t Look Up.”
Focus Features’ “Belfast” comes in first place with 39/10 odds. Surprisingly, this front-runner cast featuring Jude Hill, Caitriona Balfe and Jamie Dornan only has one supporting player who has been nominated by SAG Award before: Judi Dench. Dench has racked up an impressive 14 nominations in her historic career, winning for Film Ensemble for 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love” and Film Supporting Actress for 2000’s “Chocolat.” Could she be the good luck charm that leads the rest of...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for CSI: Vegas Episode 8 “Pipe Cleaner.”] Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome) may have been demoted and suspended from the Crime Lab, but she could have still found the break they need in the season-long case to prove Anson Wix (Jamie McShane) is the one behind framing David Hodges (Wallace Langham) for evidence tampering. In the latest CSI: Vegas episode, she continues to work from home, enlisting Joshua Folsom’s (Matt Lauria) help. By the end, they’ve found the link between Anson Wix and the hitman he hired to go after Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) in the premiere. And if he doesn’t help them take down Wix, well, Maxine took a photo of him in the middle of a drug deal. “It gives us a lot of leverage,” Lauria tells TV Insider. What’s next? CBS this Wednesday mined familiar territory with the debut of CSI: Vegas, the franchise’s first offshoot in six-and-a-half years. Counting Jorja Fox and William Petersen among its ranks, did the spinoff offer a satisfying mix of familiar and new?

Brass puts a few bullets into his attacker, though the mystery of who hired the killer looms large. Brass rings friend/former CSI Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), who drives up from San Diego...

One of the 21st century’s most venerable franchises is back. “CSI,” which in its first run lasted 15 seasons and generated three spinoffs, returns as “CSI: Vegas,” reuniting William Petersen and Jorja Fox. The two actors, key players on the original series, are now old-timers, providing insight about science’s potential to solve crimes from the sidelines. We’re informed in passing that original series lead Marg Helgenberger’s character has retired.
Even without certain parts of old-school “CSI,” franchise fans are in good hands. The show is now led by Paula Newsome, a naturally empathetic performer (known for HBO’s “Barry”) and staffed across the board by a significantly more inclusive ensemble. Mel Rodriguez, a gifted comic actor, is especially welcome as a medical examiner — the role in which shows like this find room for oddballs. Petersen and Fox as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, as well as appearances...

I am not of fan of movies that resort to breaking the fourth wall, as it were, and letting their key characters talk incessantly to the audience. It is a device that generally feels lazy, a writer’s crutch to explain away story points instead of letting us discover for ourselves. The recent annoying pandemic comedy Together, with James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan as a bickering couple who sell their sides of ongoing marital arguments directly to the camera, is an example of why overuse of this technique can be so tired. Now along comes The Good House, which just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and where Sigourney Weaver as a functioning alcoholic real estate agent in North Boston offers her view on the town and its people with full sarcasm intact. It is based on the 2013 book by Ann Leary, and it seems this very literary conceit was...

In “The Good House,” Sigourney Weaver plays Hildy, a prickly, well-born Realtor in a wealthy New England town. Hildy is a mother and grandmother, and her family has become concerned with her drinking. When they stage an intervention, the beginning of which you can see in this exclusive clip, Weaver’s Hildy breaks the fourth wall, and tells the audience about the players.
“Let me introduce everyone first,” Hildy says to the camera. And then she does, peppering her comments with asides: “This is my ex-husband, Scott, to whom I pay alimony. Even though he left me for a man after 22 years of marriage.”
“The Good House,” an acquisition title produced by Amblin Partners, will premiere as a Gala Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 15. Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky co-directed the film, and also adapted Ann Leary’s 2013 novel of the same name with Thomas Bezucha.

CSI gets back on the case next month with the new series, CSI: Vegas.
TV Fanatic attended the Television Critics Association panel for the highly-anticipated revival, and the creative forces have teased more original stars could be in the mix.
As previously reported, franchise veterans William Petersen, Jorja Fox, Wallace Langham, and Paul Guilfoyle are set to play a part in the new series, alongside newcomers Paula Newsome, Mandeep Dhillon, Matt Lauria, and Mel Rodriguez.
“Anytime we can get any of our veterans back, it’s such a great plus for all of our fans,” CSI creator and CSI: Vegas EP Anthony Zuiker shared during the panel.
“We have a couple more surprises in store. I could probably say that. But the fantastic blend of the original cast members with a brand new, diverse team in 2021 and beyond is such a great treat for the CSI fans and the franchise.
