The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled the first wave of its honorees for this year, naming Canadian directing legend David Cronenberg as the recipient of the Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award and Amy Adams as the winner of this year’s TIFF Tribute Performer Award.
Cronenberg is among the most unique and influential filmmakers of his generation an auteur who has created a bespoke brand of intellectual horror with films such as Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, Crash and A History of Violence. His latest, The Shrouds, premiered in competition in Cannes last month. Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Deadpool & Wolverine) received the inaugural Norman Jewison career award in 2023.
Adams, a six-time Oscar nominee (for Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle and Vice), will be seen next in Nightbitch, a comedy horror film from director Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) adapted from Rachel Yoder’s debut novel of the same name.

Matthias Schoenaerts had worked with Kate Winslet before, but never like this. Never as a lackey engaging in a psychosexual power play with a capricious dictator convinced bacteria is flooding her palace. It almost goes without saying that The Regime is far less restrained than Schoenaerts and Winslet’s previous screen romance, the largely forgotten 2014 period film A Little Chaos.
“We both were like, ‘Ok, so what is this mad piece of work that we’re reading?’ ” Schoenaerts says of his first conversation with Winslet about the HBO limited series. “ ‘Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? Is it both?’ We were trying to figure out what the tone was going to be.”

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the best actresses of all time. The list includes more than 300 names, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten actresses from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.
Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 actresses on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

Bette Midler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Megan Mullally and Susan Sarandon are having a very good time in the first trailer for The Fabulous Four.

The new spot sees the four friends film TikToks, go parasailing and imbibe in some champagne and weed. “Emotionally prepare yourself, Marilyn is on TikTok,” warns Mullally’s Alice, with Ralph’s Kitty offering a worried, “No!”
Jocelyn Moorhouse, who was behind Kate Winslet movie The Dressmaker, directed the movie from a script by Ann Marie Allison and Jenna Milly.
The Fabulous Four will hit theaters July 26 via Bleecker Street.

Playing an illiterate Nazi SS guard in the midst of a romantic tryst with a younger man is complicated enough, but having to perform with an uncertain director made it all the more challenging for Kate Winslet. Despite ultimately winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in “The Reader,” in a recent interview with Variety, the “Titanic” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” actress admitted that making the film was a new kind of experience for her in terms of the open collaboration she shared with director Stephen Daldry.
“It was the first time I had worked with a director who could be openly nervous and vulnerable,” Winslet said. “Stephen Daldry would say, ‘Why are you looking at me? I haven’t got a fucking clue how you’re going to play it either. We’ll do it together.’”
To Daldry’s credit, he knew Winslet was capable of handling herself.

Shows like ‘True Detective,’ ‘Hacks,’ ’ The Sympathizer,’ and others are putting their best foot forward for Emmy voters.
The Primetime Emmy Awards are still three months out, but campaign season is in full gear. The nomination round of voting began this week and runs through Monday, June 24. As is often the case, Warner Bros. Discovery has dozens of titles up for consideration between the premium prestige programs of HBO and the buzzy streaming-exclusive shows on Max. To help remind voters of the series that they loved over the past year, Max is launching For Your Consideration (FYC) panels featuring the cast, producers, and crews of titles to make the case for their nominations. Subscribers can find a large selection of panels on Max now, and those who aren’t already signed up for Max can take advantage of the streamer’s limited-time free trial to check out the panels and the shows themselves!

“Who needs a fourth season of True Detective?” — the media wrote, praising HBO's strategy of not limiting itself to popular franchises, but creating unique one-off projects. And in 2021 it was Mare of Easttown starring Kate Winslet.
Mare of Easttown became one of the most important TV events three years ago for a reason. The detective line in this project successfully competes with a purely dramatic one — the story of how a tired woman, living under the same roof with a drinking mother, a teenage daughter and a five-year-old grandson, tries to stay afloat with one hand holding a bottle and the other in a cast.
Season 2 Is Still a Possibility
The finale, like the entire season, was a success. Kate Winslet and the entire film crew more than lived up to the expectations of critics and viewers.

10. Kate Winslet as Helena Ravenclaw
One of the most prominent British actresses, Kate Winslet was offered the part of Helena Ravenclaw’s ghost. While a small role, it would’ve allowed her to work a little more with Alan Rickman who she absolutely adored… But Winslet’s agents rejected the offer without even telling her about it, and the part went to Kelly Macdonald.
9. Rosamund Pike as Rita Skeeter
It’s wild to even imagine how different movie fans’ perception of Rita Skeeter, the frustratingly annoying reporter, would’ve been if she was played by Rosamund Pike! The star actress received an offer to portray this thorn in Hermione’s back, but she had scheduling conflicts and had to refuse, so Miranda Richardson picked it up.
8. Naomi Watts as Narcissa Malfoy

It’s been three years since HBO last checked in with Kate Winslet‘s titular Delco detective in Mare of Easttown, but it seems like she could be taking on a new case. According to Variety, a second season of the limited series could loom on the horizon. So, what might this next chapter look like? We’re breaking down everything we know so far, below. Where Would Mare of Easttown Season 2 Pick Up? (Credit: HBO) HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi told Variety that HBO is interested in exploring a storyline set years after the first season. “We might be willing to figure out with Mare, years later, picking her up — not on the heels of where she ended, but there have been years for the character that have passed. Who is she now?” In other words, time seems to be linear with the real world in this scenario,...

Fans of Mare of Easttown might have reason to celebrate again. When HBO’s Kate Winslet-led drama Mare of Easttown concluded in 2021, many viewers hoped the so-called limited series would have more to offer. The show’s critical success was marked by acting Emmys for Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson. HBO’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys shared the network’s enthusiasm in a conversation with Variety, stating, Brad and Kate and the producers are all talking to see if they think there’s a place to go. I think we’ll hear from them in a couple of weeks if they...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has more A-list actors than any other major franchise in Hollywood, making stars of newcomers such as Simu Liu, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Holland while also weaving in veterans such as Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson, and Cate Blanchett. The sheer amount of talent on display across the MCU’s many movies and TV shows means that, naturally, the MCU has its fingers in every awards show pie. In other awards, you’ll always find an MCU alum or two nominated at any major awards ceremony. So, speaking of that, here are eight MCU actors past and present we think will be nominated for an Emmy this year.
Donald Glover — “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”
Okay, so admittedly Glover isn’t the first name you think of when you conjure up MCU actors, but he did feature in a scene with Holland’s Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as Aaron Davis,...

At the time, Kate went on to say that she would work with James again only if she was offered a lot of money. The two did, however, go on to collaborate for another blockbuster, Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022, and now have opened up about their alleged feud.

Kate Winslet is looking back at filming the “I’m flying” scene in Titanic with Leonardo DiCaprio, but admitted that it “was not all it’s cracked up to be.”
While rewatching some of her most iconic scenes in a video with Vanity Fair, the Oscar-winning actress recalled the sequence where her character Rose kisses DiCaprio’s Jack being much messier than fans realize.
“My God, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio,” Winslet quipped. “It was not all it’s cracked up to be.”
The Regime star explained, “We kept doing this kiss, and I’ve got a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks — on both of us, between takes — and I would end up looking as though I’d been sucking a caramel chocolate...

Kate Winslet wants to sink the feud rumors with James Cameron once and for all.
The Oscar winner told Variety that the discussions surrounding the tough 1997 “Titanic” production “overshadowed” her working relationship with Cameron at the time. The duo later reunited for 2022 film “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
“There’s a part of me that feels almost sad that stupid, speculative ‘Titanic’ stuff at the time overshadowed the actual relationship I have with him,” Winslet said. “He knows I will be up for anything. Any challenge, any piece of direction you give me? I’ll try it.”
Cameron confirmed that there was “never a rift between us.” He added that Winslet had a special relationship to her “Titanic” character even before being cast in the role.

Less the breaking of new ground than ensuring he’s here to stay, there’s been two updates on projects in Todd Haynes’ purview. In 2022 he told us of plans to direct Kate Winslet in an HBO series, which we learned last year is an adaptation of Hernan Diaz’s Pulitzer Prize winner Trust. Today Variety informs us Trust is set at HBO, with an official logline in tow:
“In a story told from multiple, competing perspectives, a 1920s Wall Street tycoon amasses a sudden fortune but loses a beloved wife. Decades later, his attempts to control the narrative of his life are undone by a biographer who uncovers the ultimate secrets of the legendary marriage.”
Production on it likely has to wait a minute. Haynes is soon to begin shooting his Joaquin Phoenix collaboration, previously described as a 1930s-set gay drama. Today offers a major update: it’s a detective film that,...

Peter Dinklage became a force to be reckoned with at the Emmys during his tenure as Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” with the actor winning four wins from eight nominations. The cast of “Game of Thrones” was so good, however, that many of them are still Emmys forces even after the show ended and they’ve moved on to different projects. Let’s take a look at the “Game of Thrones” alumni who could compete at this year’s Emmys.

A lot of people might think the era of Prestige TV began in 2013 or 2014, with the release of “House of Cards” or “True Detective.” But really, you can look at something like 2011’s “Mildred Pierce” as the start. And the people behind that limited series are teaming up yet again for a new HBO series, “Trust.”

In 2022, Kate Winslet went to the London home of director Stephen Frears to discuss HBO’s political satire “The Regime.”
She’d been cast in the role of Elena Vernham, a narcissistic European autocrat, and Frears had been pinpointed by the production as a potential director.
“I was offered a cup of tea, which I then ended up making myself because he clearly had no intention of making the tea for me at all,” Winslet says. “In fact, he didn’t even seem to know where the cups were.” Over the tea and some chocolate biscuits, she asked the director how he believed Elena should be played.
“He said to me, ‘Well, it needs to be quite high,’” Winslet recalls. “And I didn’t have a fucking clue what he meant. And as I walked away, I realized I totally knew. It was his way of saying, ‘Go big or go home.

Going naked in films can be both positive and liberating or sometimes embarrassing and hilarious for actors. For example, while going nude for Red Sparrow was liberating for Jennifer Lawrence, as it helped her deal with insecurities, on the other hand, Kate Winslet finds them awkward. And while it’s not uncommon for actors to bear it all onscreen if the script demands, not every actor is on board with going full-frontal, including Michael Caine.
Speaking of his decision to never go nude in front of the camera, Caine explained it could impact the actor’s control over the audience and asked actors not to go full-frontal nude.

Every. Season. Counts.
The Bear's renewal for simultaneously filmed third and fourth seasons was sweet dad-rock music to the ears of critics and audiences alike.
After sweeping the Emmys and benefiting from word-of-mouth buzz around its Christmas-themed episode "Fishes," the show was practically guaranteed renewal to give us at least one more season with the volatile and tight-knit Berzattos.
An Interesting Experiment
Capitalizing on the moment by filming back-to-back seasons was a smart move for the series and might become a trend for other shows.
Logistically it makes sense to take advantage of utilizing a show's cast and crew for two seasons in one go, instead of having to align all of those schedules again in another eighteen months or so.
In the current landscape of surprise cancellations, it also makes creative sense for a show to film a multi-season arc without the worry of ending on a cliffhanger.

Daniel Fienberg The shift to a backloaded schedule built around a May 31 deadline for Emmy consideration has drained some of the surprise from the spring TV calendar. Viewers are growing accustomed to a glut of high-profile limited series and prestige returning shows from March to May, with the biggest titles and stars creating their own gravitational fields of self-perpetuating coverage.
Luckily, though, there’s still room for discovery. With its literary pedigree and a budget that burst off the screen in the form of astonishing evocations of 17th century Japan, FX’s Shogun had “prestige” written all over it. Yet the care taken by creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo to deliver this story without having it reek of appropriation and voyeurism was evident throughout. Still, who would have guessed that Shogun would be so successful that the network would want to push forward with future seasons beyond James Clavell’s novel,...

Hard-pressed as one would be these days to think of a situation in which a bungling dictator turns a nation inside out, HBO’s savage satirical comedy “The Regime” takes this idea to the mat.
Kate Winslet assumes the role of an ill-spoken, environmentally paranoid but impeccably appointed chancellor who runs an unnamed nation in a compound-like palace with the help of a rough-and-tumble soldier (Matthias Schoenaerts) whom she tasks with everything from odd jobs to sexual gratification.
Production designer Kave Quinn used massive interiors to create a seemingly never-ending labyrinth of rooms and catacombs. “The project involved a lot of research and the observation of the ridiculousness of, for instance, a picture of Vladimir Putin addressing some of his colleagues, and how far away they have to be,” Quinn said. “I’ve seen interviews with him belittling people, so I think the use of space is quite critical.”

AppleTV+’s The Morning Show is amping up the star power further with the addition of Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard in a major arc across Season 4. She will portray ‘Celine Dumont,’ a savvy operator from a storied European family.
Cotillard joins the ensemble cast which includes Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Jon Hamm and Nicole Beharie.
The Morning Show explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning. Season 3 left the fate of Uba once again up in the air after Alex (Aniston) manages to take down Paul Marks (Hamm) by logjamming the sale of Uba to his tech company, Hyperion. But now, it appears Uba will be merging with another media company to keep the network afloat, which could spell layoffs and restructuring to come in Season 4.

Despite earning acclaim for his work, Hollywood filmmaker, Woody Allen, has continued to be a controversial figure in the industry. The filmmaker is also known for his nuanced yet problematic portrayal of women in his movies.

While he seems appreciative of women’s complexity, his portrayals always hint at underlying tension with lingering shots and camera angles that have raised concern about objectification. And his opinions don’t seem to have changed much as an excerpt from his 2020 memoir suggests where he talks about the leading ladies of his 2008 movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

Exclusive: Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Sarah Snook has set her next big project following the conclusion of HBO’s hit series Succession.
Snook will star in and executive produce Peacock’s upcoming suburban thriller series All Her Fault in the lead role of “Marissa.” Megan Gallagher serves as writer, creator and executive producer of the project adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Andrea Mara.
All Her Fault opens on a plausibly terrifying situation that eventually unearths the deep secrets of a community. Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.
Minkie Spiro is set to direct the first episode, among others and executive produce. EPs also include Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and Joanna Strevens for Carnival Films, Jennifer Gabler Rawlings and Christine A. Sacani, producer Terry Gould and associate producer, Andrea Mara, who wrote the novel All Her Fault. Universal International Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Snook was most recently seen on-stage at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on The West End in the award-winning play The Picture of Dorian Gray. For her performance, she was awarded an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Play.
Last year, Snook was seen in the final season of the HBO award-winning series Succession. For her portrayal of ‘Shiv Roy’ across the show’s four seasons, she received an Emmy, two Golden Globe Awards and two Critics Choice Awards. She also flexed her voice acting skills in Hulu’s animated series Koala Man. Her TV credits also include the Australian drama series The Beautiful Lie, AMC’s anthology drama series Soulmates, and an episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror.
On the big screen, Sarah co-starred in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs alongside Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet; the science-fiction thriller Predestination alongside Ethan Hawk; and Kornél Mundruczó’s Pieces of a Woman alongside Vanessa Kirby.
Snook is represented by UTA and Omni Artists Ltd.

Actress Kate Winslet is synonymous with the character of Rose from James Cameron’s disaster epic Titanic. The film saw her paired up with Leonardo DiCaprio in the doomed romance set aboard the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic in 1912. The film garnered her a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars and the film was the highest-grossing movie of all time then.
Despite earning billions, Titanic remains one of the many in Winslet’s amazing filmography. Though she is best known for her role in Cameron’s film, she has delivered far superior and mature performances since the big blockbuster. Here are three performances from Kate Winslet’s extensive filmography that are far better than Titanic.

Directed by Todd Field of Tár fame, Kate Winslet plays a housewife who has an affair with her neighbor played by Patrick Wilson.

The Divergent movies have arrived on Netflix, and fans can finally watch the journey of Shailene Woodley’s Tris Prior as she navigates the dystopian world where people are divided into factions. The first installment hit the big screen in 2014 and was followed by two more sequels.

Apparently, one actor who auditioned for the role of Tobias Eaton, aka Four, was initially rejected before joining the franchise for another part. In the end, he enjoyed being the antagonist rather than leading a failed franchise.
Miles Teller Shares Audition Story For Divergent
During his interview with Vulture, actor Miles Teller shared how he joined the Divergent movies. He revealed originally going for Four, but he failed to win the part.
I auditioned for Four originally and maybe, yeah, that would have been cool to do. But it’s nice to play against type.

“The Regime” showrunner Stephen Frears is a man of few words when it comes to music — at least according to award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat. But that wasn’t a bad thing. The two had previously collaborated, and Desplat liked that approach, as it gave him free reign to come up with compositions that he could bring back to the director.
Recruited for HBO’s “The Regime,” starring Kate Winslet as the chancellor who reigns over an unnamed Central European country, Desplat looked to Winslet’s acting, design and costumes for inspiration. “The music needed to be charged with humor, but not too much,” he says. “There also needed to be an ominous presence. There’s something uncomfortable about these people. They’re almost sad, and they’re crazy and unique, so the music had to show that desperate world.”
He found himself writing music that was layered with “Mitteleuropa sounds.

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Actress Elle Fanning closed out her Cannes fashion parade by putting a French Riviera twist on the classic ’70s goddess gown. On Saturday, the All The Bright Places actress stopped traffic on the red carpet, posing in a sheer Gucci Cruise dress with a stunning, completely backless design at the 77th annual film festival’s closing ceremony.
With her oversized bell-shaped chiffon sleeves and layers of sheer fabric flowing around her, Fanning – who also debuted a shorter, platinum cut for the event – looked nothing short of elegant.

Rian Johnsons dritter „Knives Out“-Film hat den Titel “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” bekommen. Auch die ersten beiden Darsteller des Ensembles wurden verkündet: neben Daniel Craig als Detective Benoit Blanc werden Josh O’Connor und Cailee Spaeny mitspielen. Rian Johnson inszeniert wieder nach eigenem Drehbuch, über dessen Inhalt Stillschweigen herrscht. Außerdem ist Johnson über die mit Ram Bergman geführte T-Street Pictures Produzent.
