In deciding on our next Wtf celebrity to cover, we passed around several names but in the end we all decided that: There could be only One! Despite being basically blind, Christopher Lambert made a name for himself as the king of Sci-Fi action films. One could say he single-handedly kept Blockbuster Video in business as most of his output in the 90’s debuted on the bottom shelves of the video rental chain. But few performers have made their mark on the international stage like Christopher Lambert, alternating between North American schlock and more prestigious French fare. Despite most of us knowing Lambert mainly for two iconic roles, there is much more to know about this American-born French actor; it’s time we find out just Wtf Happened to Christopher Lambert.

Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins’ The Shawshank Redemption is undoubtedly one of the best films released in 1994, the same year when Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump were released. While the latter two managed to nab some Oscars, The Shawshank Redemption shockingly went empty-handed, but, it hasn’t undermined its reputation of being one of the best films of that decade.
Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption
The inspiring and heartwarming prison drama told the story of one man’s resilience and eventual freedom from being put into prison despite claims of innocence. The ending of the film saw the emotional reunion of Freeman and Robbins’ characters. It seems the original treatment of the film was slightly different, one which Freeman was vehemently against.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of the most beloved, and critically acclaimed, films of all time. On top of having an excellent cast; including Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins, Clancy Brown, and Bob Gunton, it was also directed by Frank Darabont, who is best known for his work in The Walking Dead.
Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in a still from The Shawshank Redemption
Even though the film is a thriller, it almost has a lighthearted essence to it, which makes audiences love it all the more. It has an excellent approach to storytelling, showing the worst sides of humanity being overshadowed by a glimmer of hope. All of these aspects have helped the film become the highest-rated film on IMDb, holding a score of 9.3.
Despite this, the film had a very poor run at the box office when it was initially released. It would seem that Robbins has a theory about why this happened.

Bruce Timm is known for creating some of the most iconic shows of the DC Animated Universe. While developing the animated shows for DC and WB, Timm reportedly set a proper continuity for the Dcau and even went as far as setting Batman Beyond in the future to protect the established canon. However, the one thing he reportedly did not plan was incorporating villains from Batman and Superman into the Justice League.

A few months ago, I wrote an article listing ten movies that – despite being well known – were difficult to find (legally) on any streaming service or even on disc. Those titles ranged from Ron Howard’s Cocoon to movies like Dawn of the Dead (the original). In the comments, many of our readers chimed in with their two cents on films they’ve found difficult to find over the years, so here are a few more challenging-to-find flicks, some of which may surprise you.
Panic Room:
The fact that David Fincher’s Panic Room has never been issued on Blu-ray blows me away. [Warning: The below contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 8 of Resident Alien, “Homecoming.”] The end of Resident Alien Season 3 was a doozy. The episode, titled “Homecoming,” dropped bombshell after bombshell, from the moon being a full-on spaceship to Harry (Alan Tudyk) being body-snatched by a Mantid and beyond. While Syfy has not yet renewed the hit sci-fi-comedy for a fourth season, some of the details of what’ll happen if and when the show returns are starting to come into our orbit. Here’s a look at everything we know about Resident Alien Season 4 so far. Will Asta realize Harry’s been body-swapped? Now that Harry (Alan Tudyk) has had his body taken over by a Mantid (voiced by Clancy Brown), fans are probably wondering whether the humans in his life will recognize the change of demeanor — Max Hawthorne (Judah Prehn) certainly noticed some differences in his grown-up foe. Showrunner Chris Sheridan told TVinsider, though, even his closest pal Asta...

"You waded out into the deep end, and now you're drowning right before our eyes." Vertical has debuted the full official trailer for the wacky stoner comedy titled Poolman, marking the directorial debut of actor Chris Pine. He shot this film in 2022 when the pandemic was still on, and now it's set for release starting in May in theaters. This initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last fall, but got terrible reviews (and even a few walk outs) from most critics at the festival. Poolman is described as a stoner riff on the noir classic Chinatown. It's about a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny LA. When he uncovers the greatest water heist, he does what he can to protect his precious city. Chris Pine also stars in this as Darren Barrenman, the titular "poolman", with Annette Bening,...

Both Batman and Superman were meant to inspire; one lived in the shadow of fear, the other in the light of hope. The two superheroes have similar goals in life: they want to thwart evil while leading separate lives in order to defend their city and its citizens. They follow different paths that pit them against the most evil villains; they are neither allies nor rivals.
Batman and Superman, no matter what, never lose sight of who they are and, thus, are adamant about upholding their moral standards. There is a fundamental distinction in the characters’ origin stories, even though at times it seems like they are more alike than different.

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

Ahead of the project, it was known that a big-name baddie would be getting recast for the new streaming series. The criminal in question was Salvatore Maroni, who was arrested offscreen before the events of The Batman, and whose arrest by corrupt cops led to the collapse of his criminal empire and the rise of Carmine Falcone.
For the new show, the character will be played by Clancy Brown. He also seems to be playing a far more significant, active role in the proceedings this time around.

Several months ago, word leaked out that Maggie Gyllenhaal was set to direct a film called The Bride!, a new take on the concept of the 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein (watch it Here). Once thought to be set up at the Netflix streaming service, this one is actually happening at Warner Bros., and the studio has set the film for a theatrical release, IMAX screens included, on October 3, 2025. We’ve previously heard the names of several cast members, and now Deadline has revealed another one: Julianne Hough. Perhaps best known for her work on the TV series Dancing with the Stars, where she has been a dancer, a judge, and a co-host, Hough also has multiple acting credits to her name, including roles in Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages, Safe Haven, Paradise, Curve, Dirty Grandpa, and Bigger.
Details on the role Hough will be playing in The Bride! have not been revealed.

Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett’s Superman: The Animated Series, premiered in 1996, and followed the adventures of Superman while he defended the Earth from evil. The popular animated series, which was followed by the success of Batman: The Animated Series, ran until 2000. It is also known as the first animated series in Dcau to feature multiple superhero guest stars.
Superman: The Animated Series included appearances from Batman, Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and more. The audience and the critics appreciated the series, especially for its writing, voiceover performances by the actors, and the modern take on Superman. Bruce Timm discusses how they were able to cast actors whose voices sit perfectly with the characters on-screen.

Lex Luthor is one of the most celebrated villains of all time. Superman’s arch-nemesis is a genius, billionaire, and one of the most power-hungry characters in the comic-book world. The legendary character was portrayed to perfection by actor Clancy Brown in the Tim Daly starring animated show Superman: The Animated Series.
Bruce Timm’s follow-up to his Batman: The Animated Series was a Superman for a new generation as it became an influential piece of media for many other adaptations. It saw a much more vulnerable Superman, who did not smile or perpetually be optimistic like he was in the comics. However, Superman would have been completely different as Brown reportedly first auditioned for the role of Clark Kent in the show.

There are a bunch of DC projects coming up. Everyone’s excited about James Gunn’s DC Universe and his new ‘Creature Commandos’ & ‘Superman.’ But don’t forget about the Elseworlds projects, like ‘The Batman’ movie series, and other projects in the works like the upcoming ‘The Penguin’ show.
Last week, they dropped a teaser for ‘The Penguin’. It takes place a week after ‘The Batman’ and it’s all about Cobblepot making his way up in Gotham. Colin Farrell is coming back as ‘The Penguin’ – he got a lot of love for that role. In a recent interview, Farrell talked about what fans can expect from the show, and it doesn’t sound too pretty.
We wrapped it, man. We did it. Stuck a fork in it about two weeks ago. It was a long and really wonderful experience. And it’s dark, that’s what I can tell you about it.

Due to arrive this year, The Penguin, Warner’s TV spin-off from The Batman, is “incredibly violent” and “twisted” says title star Colin Farrell.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman wasn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows, so it follows that its upcoming spin-off series, simply called The Penguin, will be similarly dark.
In fact, if we’re interpreting recent quotes from title star Colin Farrell correctly, the series could be even more withering and nightmarish than the movie. Talking to MovieZine (via Deadline), Farrell said that filming had wrapped on the series a couple of weeks ago, and that “It’s dark… really dark.”
It’s really heavy, I think, it certainly was doing it,” he said. “Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it, but it’s incredibly violent.”

Wak! Wak! Fans who wanted Matt Reeves’ The Batman to lean into the violence of Gotham City could be in for a treat when The Penguin arrives on Max. The spinoff series, starring Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, could find the classic villain breaking more than bones as he continues to waddle toward the top of Gotham’s criminal food chain. Speaking with MovieZine, Farrell said The Penguin is gnarlier than Reeves’ PG-13 Batman film and should be considered “incredibly violent.”

Before Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” opened in theaters in March 2022, there was a lot of discussion online surrounding the movie’s rating. Many comic book fans were hoping to get the first Dark Knight movie with an R rating, but the film earned a PG-13 nonetheless. The universe of “The Batman” is expanding with the upcoming Max series “The Penguin,” starring Colin Farrell as Gotham City gangster Oswald Cobblepot. The actor recently told MovieZine that the series is “incredibly violent,” which should appease the “The Batman” fans who wanted an ultra-violent R-rated cut of the film.
“It was a long and really wonderful experience,” Farrell said about filming “The Penguin” series. “It’s dark; that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think— it certainly was doing it. Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it.

The Penguin trailer offers a glimpse into the forthcoming installment of The Batman saga ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The latest trailer for The Penguin sees Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, alias Penguin. The trailer delves into the DC villain’s contemplation of the posthumous recognition bestowed upon a local gangster by the community during his upbringing, prompting Cobblepot to ponder the significance of such acknowledgement. “Can you imagine being remembered like that?” Cobblepot queries an off-screen character. The trailer doesn’t spill much about the story, but it does give us quick peeks at Cristin Milioti playing Sofia Falcone and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni.
Announced in September 2021, “The Penguin” continues the saga of Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot shortly after the events depicted in “The Batman 2023,” as he manoeuvres to assert his authority within Gotham’s criminal hierarchy. The production of the eight-episode limited series commenced in...

While The Joker may be the most iconic and memorable comic book antagonist in the world today, the depiction of Oswald Cobblepot in the 2022 masterpiece The Batman by Collin Farrell pushed the character’s popularity to the next level.
Thus, seeing just how revered the character became with his introduction in the film, Warner Bros. decided that he deserved his spin-off series to further explore him.

And thankfully this time, the star was granted his wish to smoke cigars on set and screen for The Penguin, something that the star wasn’t allowed to do when he was working with filmmaker Matt Reeves on the movie since WB had a no-smoking policy in place.
The reason why Farrell wanted to smoke was to bring his character closer to the comic-accurate recreation of Cobblepot, who is always seen with a cigar in his mouth.

“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old school type,” recalls Oswald Cobblepot at the start of the trailer for The Penguin. Anyone who has seen a gangster flick before recognizes that kind of talk. Henry Hill, Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone — wiseguys love to wax poetic about the past.
It’s no secret that the classic Batman villain was a highlight of 2021’s The Batman, with director Matt Reeves taking a more grounded approach to the bird-themed character that removed the bright colors and gimmicks. The Penguin’s storyline in the movie focused on his rise through the mob and his spinoff series will continue that tale of ascendance, as Cobblepot works to fill the void in the Gotham underworld left in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death.
But the Penguin isn’t the only mobster from the comics who will appear or be referenced on this gangster show.

The sequel to the 2022 superhero hit “The Batman” may have been pushed to 2026, but fans of Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham City will have “The Penguin” to tide them over later this year.
On Friday, Max released a new trailer for the DC Studios limited series starring Colin Farrell as mobster Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Warner Bros has released the first trailer for The Penguin, The Batman spin-off series set to premiere later this year. We just don’t know when.
It’s been a heck of a week for teaser trailers. Both Alien: Romulus and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiered brief looks and now, closing the week, is The Penguin.
Colin Farrell returns as the baddie from Matt Reeves’ The Batman in his own TV show, which is set to premiere this fall.
Take a look at The Penguin trailer below.
As you can see, the trailer doesn’t include a release date. Just a brief “This Fall” at the end. The series is heading to the Warner Bros. owned Max in the US, but there is no official word on how UK peeps can watch it. However, the press email that hit the Film Stories inbox reassures us that more info is coming soon.
