We're now just eight days away from the 2-episode premiere of The Acolyte, and Lucasfilm has shared another clip from the latest live-action Disney+ Star Wars series.
Last week's sneak peek saw Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) engaged in fierce combat with the mysterious warrior he believes to be his former apprentice, Mae (Amandla Stenberg), and here we see the dark-side Force-user try her hand against an equally formidable opponent in Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss).
Indara easily evades Mae's initial strikes, but it soon becomes clear that she has been well-trained, and the Jedi's foe manages to land a decent hit towards the end of the fight.
During a recent interview with Empire, The Matrix star spoke about getting the opportunity to join the Star Wars universe and reignite her passion for performing action sequences.

George Lucas sold Lucasfilm, which included the Star Wars franchise, to The Walt Disney Company on October 30, 2012. The deal was valued at approximately $4.05 billion, making it one of the largest entertainment acquisitions in history. As part of the acquisition, Disney gained ownership of all existing Star Wars films, characters, and related intellectual property rights.
This sale also paved the way for Disney to produce new Star Wars content, including movies, television series, theme park attractions, and merchandise.
No matter how you personally feel about the sale, it’s no secret that it’s one of the most famous and most lucrative entertainment transfers in history, and now almost 12 years after the sale was complete Lucas opened up on why he decided to sell Star Wars and retire – and it’s really simple, he knew that streaming would be a threat and was unsure on how to adapt:

Kershner directed The Empire Strikes Back, which is considered one of the best Star Wars movies ever. Nevertheless, Hamill shared that they had a mutual respect for each other for being opinionated.

For years the debate about Marvel movies not being cinema has become the favorite topic of many directors, filmmakers, celebrities, and more. Nearly seven years after its release, one of the most controversial scenes in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be when Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master and veritable legend, tells the next generation about what the Jedi really represent. While training the franchise’s newest protagonist, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Mark Hamill’s now grizzled and ancient Luke intones, “The Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if you strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure; hypocrisy; hubris.”
The scene wasn’t taken well by some corners of the Star Wars fandom in 2017, and it’s not taken well now. Martin Scorsese’s war with Marvel seems to be over as filmmaker George Lucas recently revealed that the director might have eased his opinions about the MCU. The Departed filmmaker came under fire back in 2019 when he compared Marvel with theme park rides and said that they were not cinema, sparking controversy and a bunch of memes.
While the filmmaker was commenting on the lack of originality in Hollywood and how the only films getting made were superhero films, many fans took issue with him insulting their beloved franchise. However, the director seemed to have calmed down about the issue, according to George Lucas.

"Star Wars" trilogies are a flat circle, and George Lucas was right when he said "it's like poetry, it rhymes." Much like the prequel trilogy, the sequel trilogy created incredible excitement and anticipation, with "The Force Awakens" trailer breaking viewership records and fans everywhere obsessing over every detail, every character, every quote. And much like the prequel trilogy, things went downhill quick, with the movies disappointing a lot of people, and fandom going nuts and bullying the cast and crew incessantly until they drove some of them off public appearances and the internet, and until they all but swear off the franchise they were once huge fans of.
Still, for a little while, the excitement was palpable and infectious, not just among fans but even press. For example: people only asked Andy Serkis, who played the "Star Wars" villain Snoke, about "The Force Awakens" when all he wanted was to talk about apes.

During a recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, George Lucas addressed criticism regarding the lack of diversity in his iconic Star Wars films. Facing accusations that the saga prominently features white male characters, Lucas argued that this misses the deeper message embedded in the series. Most of the people are aliens! The idea is you’re supposed to accept people for what they are, whether they’re big and furry or whether they’re green or whatever. The idea is all people are equal, said Lucas. This perspective underscores his belief that the galaxy far, far away intended to showcase acceptance and...

Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi horror film, which introduced cinema lovers to iconic characters like Ellen Ripley, Alien is celebrating its 45 years. Widely regarded as one of the most influential films of all time, Alien was a revolutionary project whose impact on the horror genre remains significant. However, the story of the extraterritorial creature hunting down the spacecraft crew originated from a failed attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune series.

George Lucas doesn’t think the nearly all-white casting of his Star Wars films is problematic. The 80-year-old director, who wrote and directed the iconic 1977 fantasy-adventure himself, handed over directorial duties for the ensuing original trilogy to other filmmakers. He returned to direct three prequel entries beginning in 1999, which received mixed reviews. Despite this, Lucas‘ films have garnered intergenerational fandom. At the Cannes Film Festival, he addressed critics who have highlighted the lack of racial diversity in both trilogies and spoke candidly about his feelings toward the post-Disney films. While receiving an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes, Lucas stated...

Actress Carrie Fisher carved a special place in the hearts of millions of cinemagoers with her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Fisher debuted as Leia in the original trilogy of films, which catapulted her to superstardom. She later reprised her role in the sequels produced by Disney, until her untimely passing.

Despite the unprecedented success of the first installment, Fisher wasn’t exactly confident about the film. Instead, as a young actress, Fisher was concerned that the sci-fi film might bomb, adversely affecting her acting aspirations and ending her career prematurely. Here is how Fisher felt prior to the release of Star Wars and why she thought it would be career-ending.

Update: Sean Baker’s New York-set romantic dramedy Anora has scooped the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or. This marked Baker’s second time in the competition after 2021’s Red Rocket, and tonight’s win amounted to the realization of what Baker said has been his “singular goal as a filmmaker for the past 30 years.”
Anora stars Mikey Madison as a stripper from Brooklyn who transforms into a modern Cinderella when she meets the son of a Russian oligarch. Complications arise when his parents find out and try to get the marriage annulled.

George Lucas has a very pointed message for “Star Wars” haters who mocked the franchise prequels and cancelled Jar Jar Binks: the movies aren’t for you.
“It was supposed to be a kid’s movie for 12-year-olds that were going through puberty, who don’t know what they’re doing, and are asking all the big questions: What should I be worried about? What’s important in life?,” Lucas said at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, where he received an honorary Palme d’Or.
“And ‘Star Wars’ has all those things in there. They’re buried in there but you definitely get it, especially if you’re young,” he continued.
Of the ire that the character of Jar Jar Binks drew when he was introduced in “The Phantom Menace,” Lucas explained, “Everybody said the same thing about 3-po, that he was irritating and we should get rid of him.

George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola reflected on their lifelong bond as the “Megalopolis” director presented the “Star Wars” visionary with Cannes Film Festival’s honorary Palme d’Or on Saturday night.
Before Lucas received the award, he was greeted in the theater by a several-minute standing ovation, during which he gave the crowd a thumbs-up and got a little teary-eyed. When Coppola came on stage, the two embraced and exchanged some private remarks.
In his speech, Coppola recalled his first meeting with Lucas, who shadowed him on the set of his film “Finian’s Rainbow” in 1968.
“Pleased to have someone in my own generation, I suggested he come every day, but only on one condition: That he come up with a brilliant suggestion every day, which he consistently did. "In space, no one can hear you scream." Few cinematic taglines have managed to become as immediately identifiable as this one. While it needs no introduction, the tagline was attached to director Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 classic, "Alien." Regardless of genre, it is one of the most highly regarded and influential films ever made. It was also, not for nothing, a huge hit in its day, only to become an even bigger hit as the years have rolled on. Put plainly, it's one of the most important box office success stories in history.
"I thought it was a small movie," said Sigourney Weaver, the film's lead, in an interview with Reuters in 2019. "It had a tiny cast and a brilliant young director.

Since its inception in 1977 by creator George Lucas, the Star Wars universe has invited some of Hollywood’s biggest names to participate in telling stories from a galaxy far, far away. On that note, imagine having the chance to star in one of the most iconic film sagas of all time, only to walk away with an unpleasant memory that seemed like it’d never fade.
Can an experience alongside a cinematic legend like Lucas ever be, dare we say, “boring”? Well, for Terence Stamp, acclaimed for his chilling portrayal of the villainous General Zod in Richard Donner’s Superman, a discouraging stint on the set of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace left an indelible mark.

Filmmaker George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise has been one of the most popular works of fiction of all time. The space opera franchise features several unique, interesting, and borderline crazy ideas that have kept the fans of the galaxy far, far away on the edge of their seats for well over four decades.

Despite his penchant for executing risky ideas, one idea from Lucas almost proved too crazy and near impossible to work. Here is what Lucas said to Filoni and why the idea should have never worked.

Cannes — Nine years after being named one of Variety’s Directors to Watch, Sean Baker won the Palme d’Or for “Anora,” a rowdy whirlwind romance between an exotic dancer (Mikey Madison) and the obscenely rich son of a Russian oligarch (played by Mark Eydelshteyn). Baker is the first American filmmaker to cinch the festival’s top prize since Terrence Malick earned the Palme for “The Tree of Life” in 2011.
“Anora” is Baker’s third film to debut at Cannes, following “The Florida Project” and “Red Rocket.” He accepted the award from two-time Palme d’Or winner Francis Ford Coppola, whose “Megalopolis” went home empty-handed. Coppola also presented an honorary Palme d’Or to his friend and fellow legend George Lucas, whom he called his “own kid brother.”
Baker dedicated the award to “all sex workers, past, present and future,” underscoring the importance of “making films intended for theatrical exhibition.

When George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion, it marked a major turning point in the movie industry. But, as Lucas himself says, some game-changing transitions within the business were already in full swing.
In an interview with Brut (via Screen Rant), George Lucas said that selling Lucasfilm all came down to the rise of streaming. “Streaming is really powerful, and it’s great, it’s really upped the movie business because the theatrical movie business… we could see the problems, and it was not good. So everybody was looking to save it, but nobody knew streaming would. And that’s when Netflix took off, and at that point, I said, ‘I don’t know what this is gonna be, there’s gonna be a giant transition in the business, I don’t know that much about it,’ and I sold the company, and I retired.

Regardless of its juggernaut impact, it too, has not managed to get away from flaws and misses and landed criticisms, especially for its prequel trilogy.

The Phantom Menace was a glorious success in terms of box office earnings but the movie that was included in the Star Wars prequel trilogy met with heavy criticism for one primary reason. The trilogy, unlike the sequel movie series, seemed juvenile as considered by fans and critics.
