The Boys have never been shy about mocking the political climate of the time through its satiric representation of its heroes and their ideologies. Throughout its various seasons, Eric Kripke and the team have cleverly poked fun at pop culture and the world that we live in, and season 4 doubles on how hard it goes with its satire.
The Starlighters Vs Hometeamers rivalry in The Boys clearly represents the politically divided US | Prime Video
Audiences on various political spectrums have had conflicting views on Homelander and whether he is pure evil or a misunderstood man. The new season goes all out with its political satire with the character of Firecracker who goes on a rant about various conspiracy theories about various Hollywood celebrities. While some do not like the show being openly political this season, others point out that it has been there all along.

A guy will see a few things when he spends 21 years on a comedy show. For Kenan Thompson, he’s inevitably been witness to several Saturday Night Live evolutions over the course of his record-breaking run. SNL is “always changing,” he said this week at Cannes Lion, as reported by Deadline. “Every week there’s a new host, every season there’s a new cast. Also, it’s weird how the crowd all seems to stay young, and I keep getting older.”
The biggest change Thompson has seen? The diversity of the show’s cast. “For decades, SNL had only one, maybe two Black cast members,” he said. “Today, I’m one of five, and we also have Asian, Hispanic, LGBTQ+ members in our cast. It’s just not about appearances, it allows the show to do comedy it never could before.”
An example? How about “Black Jeopardy,” a series...

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world—dead or alive—who would it be?
We would venture to guess that the person you chose would be someone you looked up to or idolized. For those sports fans, Derek Jeter, Alex Morgan, or Simone Biles will likely be at the top of the list. When one thinks of talent in the film industry, Tom Hanks is often the first name to pop up. The actor has had a career full of success that has spanned decades. He has played major and minor roles, love interests and soldiers, broken men, and a light of hope. His versatility and flexibility have earned him a reputation for being about to play whatever the director wants him to.

Knowing his success, it is hard to think of something that he would not be good at. However, it would seem that Hanks was aware of one very big flaw that he had; one he could do nothing about. During an interview many years ago, he talked about one of his biggest shortcomings as an actor and how he turned it into an asset.

Steven Spielberg has crafted many a spectacular story throughout his mighty Hollywood tenure, but it’s films like Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan that put him on the map as a man reborn. After an exultant run at the box office and a gala time at the ’99 Oscars, the Tom Hanks-led war/action film continues to be one of Spielberg’s greatest accomplishments.

Perhaps it is because people are often their own harshest critics that the director identified with the scrawny and cowardly character of Corporal Upham. But Hanks thought otherwise.

As a kid growing up in the nineties, a movie that always got a ton of play in my household was Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own. I have fond memories of seeing it in theaters as a ten-year-old in the summer of 1992, and it’s a movie I only revisit from time to time. So, I’m pretty happy to hear that my next revisit will be in glorious 4K, with Sony revealing that the movie’s coming out on 4K disc this September, with a fully loaded special edition.
For those who may not remember the film, it’s based on the real-life All-American Girls Baseball League, which sprung up during World War II, as most male players were overseas fighting the war. In the film, Geena Davis (in an iconic performance) plays Dottie Hinson, who, along with her sister Kit (Lori Petty), becomes a star player for the Rockford Peaches.

While many Hollywood directors have a specific genre that defines their niche, Steven Spielberg has ensured that he can never be boxed into any one genre of filmmaking. From action thrillers to intense dramas to historical biopics, he has proved that nothing is beyond his reach through diverse films like Jaws, Schindler’s List, and his most recent work, The Fabelmans.

Over the years of his lengthy career, Tom Hanks has become one of the most respected names in the world. His talent knows no bounds, having worked in some of the most successful films of all time. Knowing the experience he has had, it is safe to say that he understands quite a lot about the film industry. From direction to cast, and how to write masterpieces.

Tom Hanks is the ultimate ‘good guy’ of Hollywood. The two-time Oscar winner has made a career out of playing morally decent leading men who do the right thing during a stressful situation. He has worked with acclaimed filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemeckis, and Baz Luhrmann.
Hanks received one of his numerous Oscar nominations for the role of Captain John Miller in Spielberg’s WWII drama Saving Private Ryan. The film followed a group of US soldiers tasked with retrieving a private whose brothers have been killed in action. When Hanks was offered the role, the actor was reportedly surprised by the filmmaker’s choice.

We all know Wes Anderson has his repertoire of actors: Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, and on and on and on. And over the course of his career, they have all grown accustomed to – and perfectly fit – his signature style. But that’s really hard to do early on, when none of this has been established and you’re just trying to get that first film completed. Now imagine doing it while a sometimes short-tempered Oscar nominee watches it all unfold.
Wes Anderson recalled that when making his first movie, James Caan didn’t understand just what this rinky-dink, $5 million production was even going for. “I remember James Caan came to the set of Bottle Rocket, and he was really saying, ‘What are you guys doing?’ We were doing things that he thought, ‘This is not how movies are made,’ but he sort of adapted to us.”

More than 20 years ago, we embarked on the unparalleled phenomenon of Steven Spielberg’s success with Band of Brothers—a feat that many believe is nearly impossible to replicate. With everything that modern TV production demands, is it possible for this war drama miniseries to take another hit?
In 2001, when the remarkable story of ‘Easy’ Company leaped from the pages of history onto our screens, it wasn’t just another war drama; it was a groundbreaking event that would set the bar for the genre. Spielberg, alongside visionary allies Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman, harnessed an exceptional tale of courage and camaraderie, delivering it with a finesse rarely granted by studios today.

Cinematic auteur, icon of pastel aesthetic, and pen salesman Wes Anderson enjoys a varied repertoire. He’s made commercials, worked in live-action film and animation, long-form and short, and has been known to don multiple hats on each set. While most of his work is original, he has also adapted the work of author Roald Dahl with “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and, most recently, his Oscar-winning “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.” Taking part in a conversation at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France, reported on by The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson said he’s now ready to take on another huge British novelist.
“I feel like the writer who I would like to adapt — who I don’t know if I can see the opportunity — is Dickens,” he said. “I would like to do a big Dickens story. They’ve all been adapted. They’ve all been done many times.

This four-part, so-far-untitled documentary series about the rise and rise of Hollywood’s least likely marquee-name director starts out with a tribute from Christopher Walken that will be very hard for the next three instalments to match. In that inimitable… sta-cc-a-to… Way… of his, the Sleepy Hollow star recalls his former dance teacher saying to him: “Chris, show me something I never saw before. And that’s what Tim does. Every time.”
That, by any metric, is a high bar, and, for the first hour of this docuseries at least, the hyperbole is justified: Whether Tim Burton’s 39-year career in feature films — one imagines the imminent release of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice must have scuppered the nice, round 40 — will keep viewers glued to the next three is another matter. But while Tara Wood’s documentary is clearly in the director’s corner, it does, convincingly, chart the most unlikely of outsiders...

During Hollywood Reporter’s Comedy Actor Emmy Roundtable, Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), John Goodman (Righteous Gemstones), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live), Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal), Ricky Martin (Palm Royale) and Theo James (The Gentlemen) gathered to discuss their careers. When the moderator posed the question, “Looking back on all your careers, when was the time that you felt you took your biggest risk?” Goodman was the first to jump in.
His answer: “Hosting Saturday Night Live.”
Martin couldn’t believe it. SNL a risk? For a comedic talent like Goodman?
“The first time, I was scared to death,” Goodman confessed. “I didn’t think I could do it. I thought I’d die once I opened the door for the monologue. But it turned out to be the most fun I’ve ever had.”
Still, it’s hard to reconcile Goodman’s anxiety considering, as Yang put it, “You were such a mainstay.

But imagine a young Weatherly who, like a true fan, is obsessed with Tom Hanks’ performances and unintentionally followed the Toy Story star into the acting world. Years later, after establishing his own acting career, Weatherly experienced a surreal twist of fate when he served drinks at Hanks’ party but someone mistakenly assumed him to be the waiter.

NCIS garnered Michael Weatherly a lot of fans. But there were some corners of the world where the actor was able to enjoy some level of anonymity. When hanging out with movie star Tom Hanks, he was briefly reminded what it was like to not be famous.

This article contains spoilers for The Boys season 4 episodes 1, 2, and 3.
Through its first three seasons, Amazon Prime Video‘s superhero satire The Boys has drifted further and further from its comic book origins. While the series continues to borrow characters from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s long-running comic, those characters often end up changing significantly in adaptation.
Season 3’s Soldier Boy was not a cowardly Captain America pastiche but a powerful super-fascist from America’s golden age. Gen V‘s Tek Knight isn’t a Tony Stark-esque metal man, but a true crime streaming host with the ability to sniff out lies. Now, in season 4, The Boys has introduced two major characters who are completely original to the show with no obvious comic analogues: Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry).

Behind a heavy steel door, inside the Los Angeles headquarters of the sixth-largest company in the world, television’s most terrifying villain is wincing and shifting in his chair. His ass hurts. During a trip to Mexico last week, Antony Starr, the New Zealand-born actor who plays Homelander on Prime’s The Boys, sat on a box that turned out to be a thin piece of cardboard covering a portable generator. “The handle went flush up my backside onto my tailbone,” he says, adjusting his position again. “So I’m...

It looks like Pixar doesn’t plan to follow in Disney’s footsteps when it comes to live-action remakes.
Disney has been on a whirlwind of live-action films like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid with many more including Moana and Mufasa: The Lion King slated to arrive. But unlike its parent company, Pixar Animation Studios, especially Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, isn’t keen on going down that road.

Sure, there have been some successful live-action reimaginings in the past and Jon Favreau’s remake of The Lion King stands testament to the same. But Docter has a rather stellar reason for steering clear of live-action adaptations and maybe, it’s precisely what Disney needs to hear.

“Masters of the Air” doesn’t fly as high as it does without Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann. No military unit rests on the shoulders of two people, and the Eighth Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group was no different in World War II. Historically known as the Bloody 100th for the tremendous losses it endured, the fearless flyers saw some of the worst action of the war and it did so thousands of feet above the front lines.
But as a piece of cinematic storytelling, the Apple TV+ series from “Band of Brothers” trio Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman needs the profound warmth of Boyle’s Lt. Harry Crosby and Mann’s Major Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal to, ironically, ground its darkest days.
At the top of the call sheet are Austin Butler and Callum Turner, as pilots Major Gale “Buck” Cleven and Major John “Bucky” Egan, respectively.

Johnny Depp’s breakout performance in Edward Scissorhands will remain one of Tim Burton’s all-time favorites. Several suggestions came Burton’s way for the lead role in the film at the time, but Depp had always been his choice for the role. However, the popular demand for the role did concern the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and his imposter syndrome kicked in.

Johnny Depp has revealed which A-listers he beat out for his big screen breakout role in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands.
During an interview in Tara Wood’s still-untitled Burton docuseries, which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Monday, the actor looked back at the 1990 film that ignited a years-long screen collaboration between Depp and the filmmaker.
Depp recalled some of the biggest Hollywood names at the time, including Tom Hanks, Michael Jackson and Tom Cruise, wanting to play the movie’s scissor-handed hero. He even said the latter “was not far away from actually playing Edward Scissorhands — true story.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor said when he first read the Edward Scissorhands script from Burton and screenwriter Caroline Thompson, it “passed through everything, anything, solid and went to the very core of whatever I am. The writing was beautiful. The character was beautiful.

Editor’s note: This list was originally published in June 2018, and has been updated multiple times since to reflect new comings outs and groundbreaking LGBTQ castings. It could never and will never be complete, but we hope it reflects the changing face of Hollywood as we bid hello to Pride 2024.
With LGBTQ stories in film and on TV more popular than ever before, it’s important to celebrate out-and-proud acting talents — particularly those without the non-binary awards’ categories they deserve.
In 2024, the state of Hollywood is unsure to say the least. But even as existential questions about the business of making entertainment persist, audiences and artists are grappling with equally critical questions of representation on screen. Among those questions: should queer roles be played exclusively by queer actors?

Johnny Depp is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s most transformative actors who is not afraid to experiment with his roles. The actor has played some of the wildest, unique, and wacky characters that audiences loved, cementing his status as a bankable movie star. His collaborations with director Tim Burton have resulted in some of the finest works of his career.

Depp, being from the TV world, never thought he would get the part and almost didn’t go for a meeting with Burton.

Tom Hanks is known as the ‘Dad of Hollywood’ due to his penchant for choosing good-guy roles in his movies. The actor has worked with acclaimed directors such as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemeckis, and more in his extensive filmography. He even won the Oscar twice in a row for his performances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.
Having established himself as a legendary actor in Hollywood history, Hanks has extensive knowledge in performing and even gave a small exercise for this generation’s most beloved ‘Tom’, Tom Holland. The Spider-Man: Homecoming star was given an exercise that tested his skills by the veteran actor while on The Graham Norton Show.

Johnny Depp almost walked away from even auditioning for “Edward Scissorhands” with Hollywood heavyweights Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, and even Michael Jackson vying for the lead role.
In the upcoming untitled Tim Burton docuseries, which debuted at Tribeca 2024, Depp says he felt “pigeonholed” as a teen star from his “21 Jump Street” fame, People magazine wrote. The television series ran from 1987 to 1990, and Depp admitted he “was probably doing my best for probably the last two years to get fired” from the show.
It wasn’t until Depp read Burton and Caroline Thompson’s script for “Edward Scissorhands” that he felt connect to a role.
Depp said the screenplay “passed through everything, anything, solid and went to the very core of whatever I am. The writing was beautiful. The character was beautiful. What I suppose [attracted] me emotionally was that Edward was me. It’s exactly what I should be doing.

The Tim Burton and Johnny Depp collaborations are certainly prolific. While Depp was a teen star on the Fox series 21 Jump Street, he had a weird creative force inside of him that a high school cop series didn’t fulfill. Then came a new movie called Edward Scissorhands that paired Depp with his long-time director friend. Deadline reports that Depp is being featured in a new docu-series that’s a retrospective on the career of Tim Burton, and the actor reveals who he beat out for the part of Edward.
According to People, Depp said the competition was stiff for the titular character and names like Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and even the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, were being considered for the role. Johnny Depp reveals in Tara Wood’s still-untitled documentary on Tim Burton (via People) that Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Michael Jackson were all in contention for the iconic role of Edward Scissorhands in Burton’s 1990 movie of the same name. Cruise “was not far away from actually playing Edward Scissorhands — true story,” Depp says. With so many A-listers up for the part, he nearly rejected the chance to audition despite desperately wanting the role.
At this point in Depp’s career, he was feeling “pigeonholed” by the success of being a teen idol thanks to his series regular role on “21 Jump Street.” Part of the reason why he signed up for John Waters’ 1990 comedy movie “Cry-Baby” was because he had to “fight” against his teen heartthrob persona and Waters’ film allowed him to skewer it, which “was the first solid step in the direction I wanted to go.

A Landmark Film on AIDS Philadelphia is Jonathan Demme’s 1993 AIDS drama that marked the first major studio film to sensitively address the AIDS epidemic. The 1984 summer movie season kicked off in May and early June with a flurry of blockbusters. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" opened to a gargantuan $25 million over Memorial Day weekend, and, unconcerned about getting chopped up in the mega-sequel's wake, Paramount scored a $17 million debut the following weekend with "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock." If you're thinking the studios might sit out a weekend while these films dominate the box office, Columbia and Warner Bros opted to throw a couple of haymakers over the June 8 three-day with, respectively, "Ghostbusters" and "Gremlins."
And then, on the fourth weekend of the summer movie season, Hollywood at last took a breather. With kids fresh out of school, the studios sat back and watched the aforementioned titles continue to flourish, while other pricey gambles (e.g. "Streets of Fire" and "Once Upon a Time in America") flopped.

The Tennessee State Penitentiary’s imposing architecture and storied history made it an ideal filming location for the iconic movie The Green Mile. Based on Stephen King’s novel, this film featured Tom Hanks as prison guard Paul Edgecomb and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey, a death row inmate with mysterious healing powers. The penitentiary’s harsh and eerie setting provided the perfect backdrop for the supernatural events depicted in the film. This authenticity helped bring to life the grim atmosphere of death row in the 1930s. Tennessee State Penitentiary’s Role in Film The penitentiary was specifically chosen for key scenes due...

Netflix Ultraman Rising Arrives With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Rating. (Photo Credit – YouTube)
The Netflix adaptation of one of the most iconic and popular characters in Japanese history, Ultraman, has reportedly landed a perfect approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The anime that follows the life of an alien superhero has been running in Japan since 1966 and has featured several sequels and reboots.
While Ultraman is a famous superhero in the East, he has yet to break ground with the Western audience. That’s about to change, as critics have hailed the Netflix adaptation of the Japanese Superhero before its June 14 release on the streamer.

Despite his imposter syndrome, Johnny Depp beat out some of the biggest names in film (and music) for his breakout role.
The Academy Award nominee revealed he beat out the likes of Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and even Michael Jackson for his eponymous role in Tim Burton’s 1990 gothic fantasy Edward Scissorhands.
He told director Tara Wood that Cruise “was not far away from actually playing Edward Scissorhands — true story” as he reflected on the film for an untitled docuseries about Burton, according to People.
Depp ultimately landed the role of the loving outcast, who was created by a scientist (Vincent Price) with scissors in place of his hands. When his creator dies, a local woman (Dianne Wiest) takes Edward into her suburban home, where he falls in love with her daughter (Winona Ryder) and faces ostracism from the townspeople.

With Inside Out 2 hitting theaters soon, I figured that now would be as good a time as any to look back at the 2015 original nearly a decade later. When Inside Out first released, Pixar was in arguably the studio’s first slump period. After 15 years of universal acclaim and box office dominance from 1995’s Toy Story to 2010’s Toy Story 3, the studio put out the critically reviled Cars 2 and the middlingly received Brave and Monsters University all in a row.
All three films still made money and Brave even took home the Best Animated Feature Oscar that year, but it nevertheless felt like Pixar had lost some of that original spark. But then came Inside Out; a completely original story from Pixar veteran Pete Docter, who had previously helmed Monsters Inc. and Up that took the studio’s “What if x had feelings?” formula to its logical...

Wes Anderson has reportedly put together another impressive ensemble of actors for his next feature-length film. Entitled The Phoenician Scheme, it’s described as father-daughter espionage tale with a darker tone than some of Anderson’s previous works.
As previously reported Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, Bill Murray, and Mia Threapleton will have starring roles in the film. Now, per the German industry website Crew-United, other cast members include Charlotte Gainsbourg, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Tom Hanks, Riz Ahmed, Bryan Cranston, Rupert Friend, and Antonia Desplat.
The Phoenician Scheme recently wrapped filming in Germany and is presumably targeting a 2025 release. It’ll mark Anderson’s follow-up to 2023’s Asteroid City.
Earlier this year, Anderson won his first-ever Academy Award for the Roald Dahl short film, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Four of Tom Hanks last seven major roles have ended up on streaming services – yet have the films been pretty much forgotten already?
In February of 2023, we got something of an endangered species: a surprisingly positive box office story. That a movie had overperformed against fairly gloomy expectations, and turned into a success on the quiet.
That film was A Man Called Otto, released by Sony and directed by Marc Forster. An English-language remake of Oscar-winning Swedish film A Man Called Ove, what was interesting about the movie’s success is it’s the kind of film that’s apparently not supposed to work in cinemas. Aimed at an older audience, without showboaty effects or Roman numerals, and with a fairly morose central character: this is the stuff that streaming services want to devour.
But Sony gambled, put it into cinemas, and took home over $100m worldwide. That’s not Spider-Man money obviously,...

Steven Spielberg has an impressive portfolio of works in Hollywood. If fans get a closer look at his films, they can notice a pattern in them. Spielberg’s films are either great science fiction films or they’re set in the World War II period. The Jaws director once revealed the reason behind the recurring theme of World War 2 in his films.

Tom Hanks and filmmaker Steven Spielberg attended a special ceremony in Normandy at the American Cemetery above Omaha Beach to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The Saving Private Ryan star appeared emotional as he watched American D-Day Veterans receive France’s highest honor, the Légion d’Honneur, from President Emmanuel Macron.
“When I look around here today, I see boys in high school, early in college, doing the right thing,” Hanks told NBC News upon arrival at the event.
The day marked the massive military operation in which 156,000 men, 7,000 ships and 10,000 vehicles attacked German forces in Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Both Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler seem like just about the hardest guys in the business to feud with – and so they had it out with themselves! Not even two weeks into filming 1988’s Turner & Hooch, Winkler was fired from directing the film because he and Hanks just couldn’t jive. Don’t worry, Winkler and the French Mastiff got along just fine.
Appearing on the How to Fail podcast (via the New York Post), Henry Winkler remembered, “I did 11 weeks of preparation.I knew this dog. This slobbery mastiff and I became friends. The star did not become my friend.” When prompted if he actually meant Tom Hanks and not the pooch, Beasley, Winkler responded, “I probably do.”

Tom Hanks was a television star in 1982 and, 42 years ago, if what you really wanted was to be a movie star, that was a problem.
Actors had made the transition from small-screen success to big-screen stardom before, but Hanks' claim to fame was as one-half of the cross-dressing duo living in an all-women's apartment building on the ABC sitcom "Bosom Buddies." Though the show was initially a hit, the gimmick quickly wore thin, and Hanks found himself back on the casting market.
Post-"Bosom Buddies," Hanks' sole film credit was in the 1980 slasher flick "He Knows You're Alone," and, to his credit, he was so charismatic that the filmmakers opted not to kill him off onscreen. Still, that's not much to hang your hat on, nor was, unfortunately, two years of mild television notoriety. The biggest sitcom stars of the 1970s roughly in Hanks' age range were getting star vehicle...
