MGM+ has ordered a new drama series take on the beloved hero Robin Hood.
“Robin Hood” hails from writers John Glenn and Jonathan English as well as Lionsgate Television. Glenn serves as showrunner with English serving as director. Both are executive producers on the series.
“We call MGM+ television for movie lovers and English and Glenn’s ‘Robin Hood’ is the epitome of our brand promise,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “This is a new imagining of the classic tale of the roguish outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. It’s an exciting, smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story.”

When Sean Connery opened the envelope in 2003 for Best Supporting Actress, he simply pronounced the winner as “Catherine.” Such was the expectation of her win and the sensation she had caused in the film “Chicago” that his former co-star didn’t even feel the need to pronounce her full three names: Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Zeta-Jones initially was known to American audiences for her statuesque and striking beauty. She first gained notice on these shores in a television mini-series about the Titanic. The series aired a year before James Cameron‘s film of the Titanic story swept into movie theaters. She then began appearing on the big screen in a number of ingenue roles.

There exists an alternate cinematic realm wherein Pierce Brosnan, having concluded his run on the briefly successful NBC action-drama "Remington Steele," inherited the role of James Bond from Roger Moore and likely guided the franchise through a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape. It's possible he could've failed, but that would've been the fault of the production team led by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli. Because Brosnan was born to play Bond. Broccoli even said as much when he met the actor on the set of 1981's "For Your Eyes Only." Though I'm a huge Timothy Dalton supporter, I think versions of "The Living Daylights" and "License to Kill" tailored to Brosnan's more debonair persona would've been much bigger hits, and brought a quick resolution to the legal wrangling that hastened Dalton's departure.
Pierce Brosnan was the platonic ideal of a big-screen James Bond.
Alas, NBC boneheadedly misread the ratings uptick the due-to-be-cancelled...

The first time I saw Christopher Walken on-screen was as villainous industrialist Max Shreck in Tim Burton's "Batman Returns." That performance stayed with me simply because Walken seemed to play quietly menacing with as much ease as Jack Nicholson plays unhinged. That is to say that villainy seemed to come a little too easily to Walken, who throughout Burton's nightmare expressionist fairytale discovered new facets of odiousness with each successive scene.
32 years after "Batman Returns" debuted, however, Walken's filmography clearly speaks to the man's range. Walken is great at playing villains, but he's proven over the decades that he's capable of so much more. From his role as Frank Abagnale Sr. in Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can" — for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar — to his portrayal of Corporal Nikanor Chevotarevich in Michael Cimino's "The Deer Hunter" — for which he...

“I pursued the glitz for a while. And I don’t regret it. But I know it wasn’t the real thing. It wasn’t the real thing.” This sentiment, which could almost be poetry or song lyrics, is spoken by Edna O’Brien in one of the final interviews she gave, which appears toward the end of director Sinéad O’Shea’s engaging documentary. “Glitz” is if anything an understatement: The film opens with something of a roll-call of O’Brien’s famous friends, showing the celebrated Irish author in her prime rubbing shoulders with the likes of Paul McCartney, Shirley MacLaine, Sean Connery, Jane Fonda, Judy Garland and Laurence Olivier. Indeed, she rubs more than shoulders with some of them: Romantic conquests include Robert Mitchum. Yowza.

While his films have ranged from the sublime to the atrocious, there’s no denying the impact Brian De Palma has had on cinema. Let’s take a look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
De Palma began his filmmaking career directing underground features shot on a shoestring, many of which starred a young Robert De Niro. He came into his own with the Hitchcock-inspired thriller “Sisters” (1973), starring Margot Kidder as a pair of killer Siamese twins. The Master of Suspense would serve as a muse to De Palma throughout his career, influencing such films as “Obsession” (1976), “Dressed to Kill” (1980), “Blow Out” (1980) and “Body Double” (1984) both in style and substance.
He enjoyed his first box office success with “Carrie” (1976), an adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling novel about a shy teenager (Sissy Spacek) with telekinesis. The film brought Oscar nominations to Spacek and Piper Laurie...

The Ocean’s franchise is a hell of a lot of fun, but it’s been 17 years since George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and the rest of the fantastic ensemble cast tackled their last caper. Time to bring it back, baby. In that regard, Deadline has heard that Warner Bros. is still moving forward with Ocean’s 14, with both Clooney and Pitt set to return as Danny Ocean and Robert “Rusty” Ryan. They’re also now courting All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger to helm the project.
As Deadline’s report states, it’s still in the early stages, but Berger’s star is certainly on the rise. All Quiet on the Western Front received numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

Plot: When the reigning pope unexpectedly dies, Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) must assemble the College of Cardinals to elect a new pope during a Conclave that grows increasingly bitter and deceitful.
Review: Back at TIFF 2022, one of the festival’s biggest surprises was director Edward Berger’s powerhouse new take on the classic WWI story, All Quiet on the Western Front. It was a movie that no one expected much from, but it won Best Foreign Film at the Oscars and was a major Best Picture contender up to the eleventh hour. It marked Berger as a prominent director, and now he’s back at TIFF with another stunning drama, Conclave.
Based on the novel by Robert Harris, what could have been a dry, talky drama becomes a riveting piece of work in Berger’s hands. While working from admittedly solid material, Berger expertly (and muscularly) directs one of the...

Can you picture Jenna Ortega in a James Bond tux, chasing villains through scenic locales? Sorry, that’s not in the cards anytime soon. The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star made it abundantly clear in a recent MTV interview—she’s not interested in stepping into female versions of male characters.

When questioned about the possibility of collaborating with her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Wednesday director Tim Burton on a gender-swapped revival of Edward Scissorhands, Ortega made her position clear. In her statement, the young actress is all fired up about the surge of female leads in movies.
However, she’s not exactly rolling out the welcome mat for gender-flipped versions of classic male characters, like James Bond. Instead, she’s calling for fresh, original female heroes who can stand tall on their own two feet, rather than just donning the old suits of their male counterparts.

Don’t expect to see Jenna Ortega in Her Majesty’s Secret Service any time soon.
The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress says that she wants to see women get their own purpose-built action roles, rather than taking over parts previously meant for men. Case in point: James Bond.
“I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays,” Ortega told MTV. “I think that’s so special, but we should have our own,” she said. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff — I don’t want to see like ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another badass.”
Gregory Ratoff, who originally purchased and developed the rights to Bond in 1955, once considered a woman for the role, according to Nicholas Shakespeare’s new biography of Bond author Ian Fleming. Ratoff flirted with the idea of casting soon to be Oscar-winner Susan Hayward as Bond. That is,...

Jeopardy! isn’t known for being the most hilarious show on TV. After all, three nerdy contestants showing off their trivia knowledge in the form of questions isn’t exactly a formula for comedy gold. Unless, of course, one of the contestants is Sir Sean Connery.
That being said, the late Alex Trebek did manage to squeeze in a few memorable laughs during his legendary run as host, such as the time he absolutely bodied a “nerd-core hip-hop” fan for absolutely no reason.
Now the current host of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings, is reportedly working on beefing up his joke-telling skills, and has hired a “comedy coach” seemingly to counter criticisms that he comes across as “awkward and unfunny” on the air. “How to be genuinely funny is one of the things that hinders (Jennings),” an anonymous source told Closer Weekly. “People on the show know it, Ken knows it deep down.

We talk a lot about the top of the pile when discussing horror novels and novelists. Obviously, the top of that pile is a certain man by the name of Stephen King. However, if you were going to have a Mount Rushmore of authors with him, I’m throwing the great Michael Crichton up there with him in one of the other 3 spots. Yeah, I know he’s not known as a hardcore horror guy, or even really a horror guy at all, I know for a fact his most well-known work Jurassic Park scared the bejesus out of a whole generation of kids. For that matter, I showed that movie to my kids as their first entryway into horror. While I’ll probably tackle Jurassic Park at some point as it is vastly different from book to movie, let me know in the comments if you guys want that,...

Just a year ago, David Corenswet likely wasn't a name you'd heard. Now that the actor has been cast as Clark Kent in director James Gunn's upcoming "Superman" movie, however, you've probably been hearing his name quite a bit. Following an inauspicious end to the DC Extended Universe and an equally inauspicious end to Henry Cavill's run as the Man of Steel, Gunn announced that the newly-launched DC Studios' first film would be his "Superman" movie, led by none other than Corenswet.
This will no doubt prove to be Corenswet's breakthrough role. Prior to his casting in the inaugural DC Studios outing, the Juilliard alum had played a significant roles in several high-profile films and TV shows, from the projectionist in Ti West's A24 horror "Pearl" to aspiring actor Jack Castello in Ryan Murphy's "Hollywood" on Netflix. Believe it or not, not every actor dreams of the bright lights and movie cameras from the beginning. There are many different roads actors have taken to their eventual careers, like Sean Connery's time as a milkman, a military man, and nearly a Manchester United man before settling on the theater or working as a waiter with his father like Alfred Molina. Both fell in love with acting and that was that, but for ultimate cool guy Kurt Russell, acting was actually his fallback career.
Despite the fact that Russell was the son of actor Bing Russell and started out acting alongside big stars like Charles Bronson when he was still in grade school, he never actually planned on acting as a career. Instead he was focused on his first great love: baseball.

Steven Spielberg had only one actor in mind to play the role of Harrison Ford’s dad role, an eccentric medieval literature professor, in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Spielberg was a fan of Sean Connery’s work in James Bond films. Connery initially turned down the role as he didn’t want to play any more franchise roles after Bond. However, he went on to have a lot of fun in the role.

Ranking a certain actor of director's work by their Rotten Tomatoes scores often throws up some surprises. For instance, Sean Connery's finest film, according to the site, is "Darby O'Gill and the Little People," and Hugh Jackman's actual best performance in 2013's "Prisoners" is ranked eighth on his Rotten Tomatoes page. Oh, and Tim Burton's highest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes isn't even a movie he directed. In other words, the ubiquitous Tomatometer is not always the most accurate guide, especially when it comes to comparing an individual's Rt scores in a straightforward ranking.
Sometimes, though, taking a look at an actor's filmography on the review aggregator can highlight some of their lesser known roles — roles which are actually worthy of being at the top of the Rt rankings. Take frequent Burton collaborator Winona Ryder, for example, who first worked with the director on 1988's "Beetlejuice," in which...

Often, when reading film reviews, I hear the voice of Tim Heidecker as Nigel Andrews. Upon realizing that the film "Us," in which the comedian stars, had received a bad review from Andrews, Heidecker launched into an impression of the prolific Financial Times film critic. Reading the Rotten Tomatoes quote from Andrews' review, Heidecker announced in a hearty British Received Pronunciation tone that "Us" — which was actually a frightening and relevant tale of terror — was in fact "merely the sum of the first film's critical effluent and influent, wish-determining the new movie's monody of genre and monotony of tone in the name of a specious homogeneity."
Since then, Heidecker's Andrews voice has taken root in my mind as the voice of any critic with a negative opinion. Less than two years ago, it looked like the Edinburgh International Film Festival — the world’s oldest continually running film festival — was no more. In October 2022, just two months after its 75th edition, its organizer Centre for the Moving Image went into administration (the U.K. equivalent to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S.), while its main venue the Filmhouse cinema closed its doors under pressure from rising costs and reduced trade in the wake of the pandemic. Just a few months later, creative director Kristy Matheson fled south to head up the BFI London Film Festival. All was — seemingly — lost.
But life was quickly breathed back into the festival’s aged bones. First came a one-off iteration in August 2023 backed by local body Screen Scotland, which then hired “Trainspotting” producer and frequent Alex Garland collaborator Andrew Macdonald to lead a new company to pick up the pieces and start afresh.

When you look at the true legacy of a scream queen there are a lot of options out there to choose from. When looking at the top of the heap though? I’d argue that there really is only one option. Jamie Lee Curtis has been making horror movies in 6 different decades now and while a lot of them are directly tied to her most famous franchise with 7 of her horror films being in the Halloween series, there’s so much more. In fact, her run from 1978 to 1981 includes the likes of Halloween 1 and 2, The Fog, Terror Train, and Prom Night. All of those movies have now been remade and are considered classics but there is one in there that doesn’t get talked about enough, was a bomb when it came out, but keeps getting better with age. While Halloween II came out and stole the spotlight in 1981, Road Games...

Welcome back to Oscars Playback, in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng revisit Oscar ceremonies and winners of yesteryear. This week, we cover the 60th Academy Awards in 1988, honoring the films of 1987.
“The Last Emperor” ruled over the ceremony, winning all nine awards for which it was nominated to tie “Gigi” (1958) for the largest perfect sweep in Oscar history at that point. They will, of course, later be eclipsed by “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003), which went 11 for 11. But what’s up not a single “Last Emperor” actor getting a nomination?
See Oscars Playback: When ‘Platoon’ and Paul Newman capped off their long roads with gold
“Moonstruck” was the second biggest winner of the night with three wins from six bids — and all above the line for Best Actress champ Cher, Best Supporting Actress winner Olympia Dukakis and Best Original Screenplay for John Patrick Shanley.

Ian Fleming, author of the Bond books, initially rejected Sean Connery's candidacy, doubting that the Scot could transform into an English gentleman. The author softened a bit after meeting the actor in person over lunch.
It was only after the triumphant premiere of Dr. No that the author finally abandoned his skepticism and was so impressed by Connery that he gave his character Scottish origins.
After that, the actor went on to play the iconic secret agent six more times.
1. Dr. No, 1962
The first film is called the best for a reason: it is the perfect introduction to the character, the charming spy James Bond, who has not yet become a superhero, for whom saving the world is an ordinary Tuesday. In Dr. No, Bond has no gadgets, so when he sits down at the same table with the villain, he uses only his best qualities – a developed intellect and a sharp tongue.

Filmmaking in itself is a process, and it’s entirely not a process to be taken lightly. There is so much to take into account when making a film—actors, filming locations, script, etc. But, overall, no film could ever truly come to the physical world without the wonderful talent of the director, whose take on the film, and how they view it coming to life in their minds, is the “say all, be-all” in how a movie is going to end up. This is a lot of responsibility for someone to take on, but it’s also a responsibility that feels thrilling at the same time. Ultimately, the cinematic world that ends up being developed from the initial script is a magical opportunity to undertake. The Turkish Netflix original series ‘The Life and Movies of Ersan Kuneri’ centers around the life of such a director, a true character who...

Time Bandits premiered on Apple TV+ on July 24, dropping the first two episodes. The series is based on the 1981 movie of the same name, which was directed by Terry Gilliam. The movie starred John Cleese, Sean Connery, Katherine Helmond, and others. If you’re interested in watching the movie the Apple TV+ series is based on, it is streaming on Max and Prime Video.
It is not necessary to watch the movie, but it is a lot of fun. I also enjoyed comparing and admiring just how much has changed thanks to new, modern technology. Not to mention, the Apple TV+ series features a fun,...

The Harry Potter franchise is one we have grown up with. From the world of witches and wizards, we found magic that made us believe in the impossible. But it wasn’t just Harry, and by extension Ron and Hermione that fans fell in love with, but the whole new world and the people in it.
Richard Harris as Dumbledore | Warner Bros. Pictures
One character that is loved by many in the fandom is that of the Headmaster of Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledore. In the first two movies of the franchise, the character is played by the late Richard Harris. Unfortunately, Harris passed away in 2002 and left a gaping hall in the creative world. For the rest of the movies, Michael Gambon took over to deliver a stunning performance. But it was quite a difficult process to recast the character.

The Oscar winner’s surprise casting in Avengers – not as Iron Man but as Doctor Doom – will bring much-needed gravity to the role. But will the MCU acknowledge his past life as Tony Stark?
Is it really so shocking that Robert Downey Jr is to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not as Iron Man/Tony Stark, but as the supervillain Doctor Doom? Well yes, because nobody had really seen this coming when the actor was unveiled at Comic-Con in San Diego last weekend. Despite the advent of the multiverse after Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame more than five years ago, the studio had opted not to bring the superhero back as a version of himself from another reality, even though this would have been easier than Doctor Strange opening a portal to the nearest Himalayan tea shop. The sense was that Downey Jr was probably done with this superhero stuff,...

The role of Superman is undeniably one of the most coveted in the superhero genre. For fans and actors alike, it’s a dream part, offering a lot to take in and enjoy. However, Hollywood often sees actors misjudging the potential of certain roles. Take Sean Connery, for instance, who famously turned down the role of Gandalf due to a lack of understanding.
Recently, we reported that renowned British actor Jude Law had once declined the opportunity to play Superman. Now, we have another intriguing tale: Josh Hartnett, a notable actor, also turned down the Superman role—twice!
The actor in question is Josh Hartnett, a former global star who chose to step back from the blinding lights of Hollywood to protect his mental and physical health. He is now enjoying a happy and peaceful life while successfully reviving his career.

The role of Superman is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ones in the world of superheroes. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, there is certainly a lot to take from the role, and it is one of the best roles that an actor can get. But, as it often turns out in Hollywood, some actors tend to have a false perception of a role at one point. Just remember that Sean Connery (in)famously rejected the role of Gandalf because he did not understand it, whatever that means.
Not that long ago, we reported how famous British actor Jude Law rejected the role of Superman some time ago, but we now have a story about another famous actor who rejected the role, but not once – he rejected it twice!
The actor we are going to talk about here is Josh Hartnett, a former global star who,...

George Lazenby will return in…nothing, actually. Lazenby, a literal one-time James Bond portrayer, has announced at the age of 84 that he has retired. You might even be surprised to know that he was still working, but Lazenby has occasionally been appearing in various movies over the past few years.
In a social media post this week, George Lazenby wrote, “This hasn’t been an easy decision but it’s time to announce my retirement from work. Therefore, I won’t be doing any more acting or making public appearances, doing any more interviews or signing any more autographs as of today. It’s been a fun ride but getting older is no fun. I would like to thank my manager and friend, Anders Frejah, for helping me since 2013 – the best representative I ever had. I can now concentrate on spending more time with my family. George Lazenby played James Bond a single time before walking away from the part forever. He explained why on earth he threw away the opportunity to play 007 again and again. Interestingly, he didn’t feel like he was losing money when he made that fateful decision.
George Lazenby said the hippy scene convinced him to reject James Bond
Sean Connery played Bond seven times, Roger Moore did the same, and Daniel Craig played him five times. Lazenby ditched the role after a single outing: the critically acclaimed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The Guardian reports Lazenby turned down a million dollars to play the fictional spy another six times.
In 2017, Lazenby said the cultural atmosphere of the 1960s explained his decision. “I had advice that James Bond was over anyway,” he said. “It was Sean Connery’s gig and, being in the ’60s, it was love, not war. You know,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Time Bandits (1981) & (2024) episodes one & two.
“Strong language, self-harm references & violence. This programme isn’t suitable for younger viewers,” is the warning from Channel4.com to anybody currently wishing to stream Terry Gilliam’s 1981 fantasy adventure film Time Bandits in the UK. Despite the film’s “G” (all ages admitted) rating, the streamer asks viewers to confirm that they’re over the age of 16 before it will play.
An overreaction, or fair dos, in light of the film’s meaty battle scenes and famously bleak ending?
The Original Time Bandits Ending
In the film’s final scenes, 11-year-old Kevin (Craig Warnock) awakens in his own bed following a series of perilous adventures through history with a band of time-travelling wannabe thieves played by actors with dwarfism.
After romping through Napoleon’s battlefields, having a hand in the killing of the Minotaur, experiencing the sinking of the Titanic,...

Australian actor George Lazenby, who had a one-and-done moment playing James Bond in 1969’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” is retiring from acting. Lazenby had the shortest tenure as the world’s most well known secret agent, starring only in the one film as 007.
A Hulu docudrama from Josh Greenbaum about Lazenby’s life, “Becoming Bond,” was released in 2017. An auto mechanic turned male model, Lazenby was the second actor to play Bond on the big screen, following Sean Connery, who starred in seven Bond pics.
On July 24, Lazenby announced his decision to retire in a post on X. Although his career has “been a fun ride,” he feels “getting older is no fun,” he wrote.

George Lazenby was the first actor to play James Bond on the big screen after Sean Connery left the role. That might sound like a significant accomplishment, but Lazenby has been a walking punchline for decades for two very different reasons.
George Lazenby is the worst actor to play James Bond by far
Connery made Bond one of the most famous fictional characters of the 20th century through the first five 007 movies: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Love Twice. He left the franchise, only to be replaced by Lazenby for the following movie: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Lazenby had some big shoes to fill.
And fill them he did not. While 007 is supposed to be all about his wit and charm, Lazenby is wooden. Watching On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, it’s hard to imagine Lazenby getting the lead role in a...

A couple of years ago, Taika Waititi slid into Lisa Kudrow’s Instagram DMs with a once-in-a-lifetime proposition: How would she feel about visiting New Zealand for the first time and filming a fantasy show — a genre she had yet to explore — for six months?
It was an offer that Kudrow, who was born and raised in Los Angeles and doesn’t particularly love to travel for long stretches of time, couldn’t pass up. The show in question was Time Bandits — Waititi, Jemaine Clement and Iain Morris’ series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s 1981 fantasy classic. The original film starred Gilliam’s Monty Python co-stars John Cleese and Michael Palin, as well as Sean Connery, Shelley Duvall and Ian Holm.

To a generation of Brits, Iain Morris may forever be known as half of the duo that created “The Inbetweeners,” the wildly rude sitcom about a group of mostly unpopular teenage boys that ran from 2008-2010 and was followed by two hugely successful films.
But the multi-talented creative has been prolifically busy since then, reuniting some of the “The Inbetweeners” lead cast for BBC comedy series “White Gold,” creating another BBC comedy “First Team,” working on FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows,” helping write Taika Waititi’s soccer comedy “Next Goal Wins” and recently being tapped to direct Netflix rom-com feature “My Oxford Year.”

On paper, it looks like the perfect comedy storm: a cult-classic post-Monty Python adventure from Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin, adapted and updated by the dudes behind What We Do In The Shadows and The Inbetweeners. But, for all its pedigree and Apple-funded VFX budget, this 21st-century Time Bandits doesn’t deliver the swag.
The main culprits are the titular gang. Portrayed in the original by dwarf performers including David Rappaport, Kenny Baker and Jack Purvis, the Bandits were an engagingly energetic crew, whose fractious antics powered much of the action-comedy (when the big-star cameos weren’t happening) — as loveable as they were amoral. Here, the noticeably ganglier likes of Lisa Kudrow, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva and Charlyne Yi fail to measure up.
The extended running time doesn’t do the concept any favours
This is mostly down to the new troupe’s oddly low-energy shtick,...

If you had a superpower, what would it be? You could read people’s thoughts – but isn’t that a bit invasive? Teleportation would be nice — fly without the Tsa. And, for the really adventurous, there’s time travel. You could hang out with anyone from Vlad the Impaler to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Marvel is now in talks to bring Joe and Anthony Russo back as directors of Avengers 5 and 6. The Russos helmed some of the franchise’s biggest hits, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the discussions are still in early phases, but they seem to be on their way.
Given the success of those films, and the difficulty that MCU head Kevin Fiege has had finding someone to helm the next Avengers movies, having gone through Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘s Destin Daniel Cretton and Shawn Levy of Deadpool & Wolverine, the Russos’ return seems like a no brainer. Fullmetal Alchemist is a story of two brothers who know what it is to have each other’s backs when all the world does is demand. Hiromu Arakawa, the mangaka behind the series, grew up with the understanding of equivalent exchange. According to Newton’s third law of motion, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The laws of equivalent exchange apply heavily even in alchemy. It is all about the give and take of nature. Alchemy is about maintaining balance in the world. Combining nature and science into one big experiment and creating something entirely new out of it. It is all about trial and error, but most importantly, it is about respect and sacrifice. For two brothers who were ready to sacrifice their own selves for their mother, alchemy was a dark art.

Quentin Tarantino is deemed by many fans as an eccentric filmmaker because of his out-of-the-box ideas and movies which often execute scenes that are too bold for the general viewers. Take, for instance, his screenplay of From Dusk Till Dawn helmed by Robert Rodriguez.

It boasted several acclaimed actors such as George Clooney and Salma Hayek, whose careers back then weren’t as stellar as they are now. In fact, Quentin’s film helped propel them to stardom.
