Friendship
Believe us when we say that Friendship is so much weirder, darker, and subversive than the trailer lets on, which we think is saying something. Tim Robinson and writer-director Andrew DeYoung mine humor from the most unexpected places and the results are as absurd as they are hilarious. Paul Rudd plays a very Paul Rudd character who unceremoniously “breaks up” with new friend Robinson, who drives himself mad trying to understand why and to win him back. Robinson delivers a focused (if not restrained) performance, thanks to the direction of DeYoung, whose resume includes shows like “PEN15,” “Our Flag Means Death,” and “Dave.” Friendship is truly unhinged, and no matter how it does at the box office, it will certainly become a cult fave for years to come.
