My most disliked (or even hated) series/movies/games.
I guess people would see a lot of my opinions as "hot takes" here, but that's not really what I'm trying to do here... I'm not arguing that any of these are badly made or not, just whither I personally like them or not. It's pretty obvious from this what kind of things I'm not into... lol (i.e. gore and shock for the sake of it). Ratings reflect how much I like or dislike something, not how well I think it's made. If it's not here, I either forgot about it, like it well enough at least, haven't seen it at all, or don't feel I've seen enough to form an opinion. And yes, there's plenty of popular things I do like. Not everything on this list is popular, either, but they do tend to be popular things as those stand out more (and it does compound my disdain for them if they are popular). There's no real order to this... I'll try, but it's really just added by train of thought. I have a lot of hot takes and will probably make a lot of enemies... Read my profile to understand why my tastes are the way they are, but to explain most of this, I don't like cheap entertainment and especially graphic violence/killing for the sake of entertainment. I also don't like the perpetuation of sexuality being categorized together with the worst things we can show on film, like brutal killings and projectile vomit.

WeissStarsEmilia ClarkePeter DinklageKit HaringtonNine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia. It's gonna be hard to be friends with you if you like this show... that's how far it goes. It's like the shining crown on the head of societal hypocrisy. That said, I have been friends with people who loved the show... they just better never bring it up with me around. To me, it doesn't matter if something has a great budget, looks amazing, and is even directed really well to top it all off... if I don't like the story and/or characters, I don't like it. I just tried to get through the first few episodes but couldn't.
Give me LotR over this any day. I reject the argument that dark fantasy is inherently more "realistic" by its nature and that "good vs evil" stories are always 100% black and white and have no depth. I think it's totally possible to take the dark elements in a story into ridiculous, overly cynical territory. I actually love dark elements in a story (I'll gladly take a "grey" story over a "pitch black" or "black and white" one), but not when it gets to the level of being sadistic. The irony is, it's my own cynicism with humanity that makes me dislike this genre. I remember that the Roman coliseum was once a much loved form of entertainment, and I believe that sadistic side to even many regular people still exists today, most of them just won't admit to it or reflect on it. I can only really excuse people with underlying mental issues and past trauma who use stories like this to help them cope.
I'd much rather spend my time on Dark Non-Fiction stories rather than Dark Fantasy. Hell, you can just turn on the news or watch a war documentary if you want to remind yourself how horrible humanity can be with total accuracy (though you'll have to get passed the few good things, good people, and even unambiguous heroes out there because - surprise - they actually exist in real life).
And that's without even getting into its sex-negativity. It's not only the violence and depraved actions of the characters that's used to shock, the sexuality and nudity is also clearly meant to be used that way. Ohh, so much "sexy-time" in a popular TV series... so "dirty", so "naughty"! I don't like the idea of people I've known for most of my life telling me that they watch hardcore p*rn, but telling me they watch GoT feels like the same kind of thing.
And to top it all off, the very basic sentence that has existed since as far back as human beings began to communicate with words - "winter is coming", a sentence I have always loved all my life, is now somehow automatically a reference to this show, whither anyone means for it to be or not. - CreatorRyan J. CondalGeorge R.R. MartinStarsMatt SmithEmma D'ArcyOlivia CookeAn internal succession war within House Targaryen at the height of its power, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.I've read about the kind of things that happen in this show and it's enough to piss me off. Some things seem even worse than what I've read about happening in GoT. In this year of 2023, the kind of atrocities happening in this show are happening in real life these days, and here we have this show where things like that are recreated and used to drive a fantasy entertainment story forward! If the things that happen in real life aren't bad enough to make you lose faith in humanity, the creation, existence, and love for shows like this make it even more reasonable to feel like that. I will never, ever understand how people can enjoy and be OK with a show like this. The fans of these series are aliens to me. At least with slasher and torture p*rn movies, those tend to be poorly reviewed and only popular among a certain crowd, but these shows have finally brought brutal ultraviolence into the mainstream way more than movies like Saw ever could.

I just feel like the writers of comedy like this just use the shield of comedy to get away with saying whatever shocking thing they want, not to make people laugh or do any other positive thing. Ever since The Simpsons hit it big, I feel like every "adult cartoon" since has just tried to "out-adult" The Simpsons as much as possible. At least the other shows out there have other merits (like South Park, which I neither love nor hate). There's nothing redeemable about this show.

These developers don't have any love or respect for the original Lara Croft and anything they said to suggest otherwise is just BS to help fans accept the total hijacking of a classic series to turn it into another AAA hyper-realistic but ridiculous ultraviolent interactive movie under the guise of an action game that buries its spelunking and puzzle platformer roots (yeah the old games had shooting too, but that was my least favourite part of the games). The idea that this Lara Croft would ever "grow up" to be come the classic Lara and loop back to connect the timeline was always BS... seriously, could anyone ever be able to reasonably accept that the Lara from this game and the rest of the "survivor trilogy" could ever become the charismatic, Bond-like, tough and sexy badass with attitude from the classic series? She'd just suddenly trade in her bow for the dual pistols? They're literally completely different characters and always will be.

The only thing this show got right for me is the visuals and character names. The humor (why?), writing, and the violence are all horrible. The games were NEVER M-rated or 18+ violent entertainment like this show is. It was tamer than Hammer Horror movies. The only thing you see get killed and die in the games are skeletons and monsters who disappear after a few hits. This is the name of Castlevania being hijacked to create an animated show for the Game of Thrones audience. GoT's influence on media in general has cemented it's place as #1 on my list here for sure (it's even affected games).

TEEN aspect of it. But this is like "what if the teens looked more like toddlers!?". It made me have a better impression of the Teen Titans show in retrospect, and immense sympathy for its fans. This is the dumbification of established IPs so that corporations can make a quick buck. If kids watched and enjoyed X-Men the Animated Series so much in the 90s, it doesn't make sense that DC has to make these shows that treat children like idiots. Leave the good kids comedy to shows like Spongebob.

I liked the original Dragon Ball series better. There's no reason for parodies of this show, it became a self-parody. Just angry dudes fighting, yelling, and spending all day trying to get stronger and reach their next form to beat each other up. The stuff between fights are the only good parts for me.

The only thing I liked was the intro... really love that intro. No wonder fans of the games actually pretend that this anime doesn't exist. Considering the universal backlash I've seen towards this show from fans of the games its based on, I'm honestly surprised to see the IMDB rating as high as it is... must be the effect of the awesome intro.
