2019: My favorite Russian movies
London Russian Cinema Week is the largest foreign festival of Russian cinema. And this is really good propaganda of Russian films. But why at the festival among 22 films this year there was no place for such films as “Beanpole”, “Kerosene” and “Fidelity” remains a mystery. But these are the three best Russian films in 2019! "Beanpole" is another success of Kantemir Balagov, who deservedly received the prizes of the Cannes Film Festival. A frank story about the fate of the main character and her friend, who are trying to find their way in life in post-war Leningrad. The magnificent duet of actresses Victoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina as if plunges the movie’s audience into the gloomy half-starved world, where there is still a place for love and happiness. In the top 3 of 80 watched Russian films, I would include the drama "Kerosin" by Yusup Razykov (why this wonderful film could be seen so far only at film festivals is a big question for Russian film distributors), and scandalous and bold erotic drama "Fidelity by Nagina Sayfullaeva. Best adaptation is the drama "My Little Sister” by Aleksandr Galibin; Best Action - “Leaving Afghanistan” by Pavel Lungin; Also on my list are two films of one director, the remarkable commercial success of director Klim Shipenko, Best Comedy - “Kholop” and Best thriller - “Text”, based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky; Best Series -"The Outbreak" by Pavel Kostomarov. Best documentary - "Sorokin Trip" by Ilya Belov about one of the main contemporary Russian writers. The highest-grossing Russian film of 2019 - “Kholop” (gross: $50,3 million!)!
