My favorite Soviet movie posters
In 1991, the Soviet Union disappeared from the world map. Together with him, Soviet cinema, great and unique, also disappeared. The new states that emerged as a result of the collapse of the USSR, including Russia, were never able, in my opinion, to reach the heights and greatness of Soviet cinema. 75 soviet movie posters as a mirror of the history of the USSR, as a separate type of fine art and as an important part of communist propaganda. The list is compiled on the basis of one year one poster (1917-1991). Before 1924, it would be correct to call posters Russian, since there was a Civil War in Russia itself at that time, and most Russian films were filmed in Europe. I chose the posters precisely for the beauty of the poster itself, and not for the importance of the poster movie. My list of favorite Soviet films looks completely different and differs from the list of posters by 90%. However, it is surprising that some great posters are drawn for my favorite films as well. These are "Bed and Sofa" (1927), "The Inspector-General" (1952), "The Cranes Are Flying" (1957), "The Idiot" (1958), "My Younger Brother" (1962), "Business People" (1963), "Goodbye, Boys"(1964),"White sun of the Desert "(1970), "A Long Goodbye"(1971), "Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven"(1976), "Mimino"(1977), "Plumbum, or The Dangerous Game"(1987) and "Kerosene Salesman's Wife" (1989)! It is also worth noting that I personally, as a big fan of Soviet films, have seen only a third of the films whose posters are on the list. This means, firstly, that a film-masterpiece and a poster-masterpiece are different things, and secondly, I really want to watch films whose posters are included in the list. There is still something to strive for, however, as always happens, this dream will never come true 100%, because some of the films on the list have sunk into oblivion. But the posters of these unseen masterpieces remained. Thanks to those people who kept them for us.
