- DirectorKiah Roache-TurnerStarsJay GallagherBianca BradeyLeon BurchillA talented mechanic prepares to battle his way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters after his sister is kidnapped on the eve of a zombie apocalypse.Low budget Oz flick. Lot's of fun and some cool twists. Not a bad way to kick off this horror-movie marathon.
- DirectorTony RandelStarsDoug BradleyAshley LaurenceClare HigginsKirsty is brought to an institution after the horrible events of Hellraiser (1987), where the occult-obsessive head doctor resurrects Julia and unleashes the Cenobites and their demonic underworld.A rewatch, and still a lot of fun. Pitting the Cenobites against a new foe makes for a very gory almost-but-not-quite action flick. Still a fav of mine.
- DirectorAlejandro AmenábarStarsNicole KidmanChristopher EcclestonFionnula FlanaganIn 1945, immediately following the end of Second World War, a woman who lives with her two photosensitive children on her darkened old family estate in the Channel Islands becomes convinced that the home is haunted.Still good.
- DirectorScott DerricksonStarsCraig ShefferNicholas TurturroJames RemarA shady police detective becomes embroiled in a strange world of murder, sadism and madness after being assigned a murder investigation against a madman known only as "The Engineer".Finally got down to check this one out. Not bad at all. Still want to check out Bloodline though.
- DirectorUmberto LenziStarsGiovanni Lombardo RadiceLorraine De SelleDanilo MatteiThree friends set out to disprove cannibalism on a trip to the Amazonian jungle, where they meet two men trying to escape a vicious cannibal tribe. It was nice of the production to thank the people of Leticia (Colombian Amazon) and Avianca Airlines. Not so nice was the butchering of live animals just for a flick, even for grindhouse cinema. Anyways, cool little flick and even gets some extra credit for being filmed in the homeland. Might have to rewatch Cannibal Holocaust to see how it stacks up against this one.
- DirectorJeremy GardnerStarsJeremy GardnerAdam CronheimNiels BolleThe personalities of two former baseball players clash as they traverse the rural back roads of a post-plague New England teeming with the undead.Damn good zed movie. Also, one that finally addresses the "I know she's trying to eat me but still... that zombie's got some tig ol' bitties" concern.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsJohn LeguizamoAsia ArgentoSimon BakerThe living dead have taken over the world, and the last humans live in a walled city to protect themselves as they come to grips with the situation.Still does the job.
- DirectorKevin YagherStarsBruce RamsayValentina VargasDoug BradleyIn the 22nd century, a scientist attempts to right the wrong his ancestor created: the puzzle box that opens the gates of Hell and unleashes Pinhead and his Cenobite legions.Appreciated what they tried to do here, but now that I think of it, this came out the same time everyone else and their petrified mama was doing "insert 80's monster/slasher franchise here" into space. Still worht a watch for Hellraiser fans.
- DirectorEd Gass-DonnellyStarsAshley BellJulia GarnerSpencer Treat ClarkAs Nell Sweetzer tries to build a new life after the events of the first movie, the evil force that once possessed her returns with an even more horrific plan.Loved the first one and would have to agree we did not need a sequel. At least not this sequel.
- DirectorMichael S. OjedaStarsAmanda Adrienne SmithMarc Anthony SamuelRodney RowlandA deaf girl is brutalized by a murderous gang who are then hunted by her when the bloodthirsty spirit of an Apache warrior inhabits her lifeless body.Flick looked great and the acting was actually very good all around.
- DirectorJames WanStarsPatrick WilsonRose ByrneTy SimpkinsA family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.Oh hell yeah. Third time and it still works. Eve more fun because I got to watch it with my two girls this time. They loved it. Scared the crap out of them but they loved it.
- DirectorRichard ElfmanStarsJulius HarrisMeg FosterAeryk EganWhen three N.Y. kids are murdered, the local Hatiian voodoo priest re-animates their shrunken heads to exact revenge. Complications arise between one of the heads and his former girlfriend.Oh man. It was original, I'll give it that. Not sure if watching the Elvira RIFF version helped me get through it though.
- DirectorAdam RobitelStarsJill LarsonAnne RamsayMichelle AngAn elderly woman battling Alzheimer's disease agrees to let a film crew document her condition, but what they discover is something far more sinister going on.Solid, creepy posession flick. Would rewatch.
- DirectorStevan MenaStarsMichael BiehnAlexandra DaddarioBrett RickabyThe horrific account of 6 year old Martin Bristol, abducted from his backyard swing and forced to witness the brutal crimes of a deranged madman.Damn Daddario! Actually a very decent sequel. Very nasty and no f's given. Also good to see the Beihn in this one.
- DirectorJustin BensonGregg BishopTodd LincolnStarsPatrick LawrieEmilia AresCelia K. MiliusA Los Angeles police chase sends a fame-obsessed man on a wild ride to save his girlfriend from a cybernetic terror. Not bad. Was expecting more with the ice cream truck finally.
- DirectorRodney AscherStarsBill BlakemoreGeoffrey CocksJuli KearnsAn exploration of various interpretations of Stanley Kubrick's horror film, The Shining (1980).Blah blah blah. Seriously though, it has it's moments. The Calumet baking powder reference was great and the Apollo 11 theory was mind blowingly awesome.
- DirectorDon ManciniStarsChantal QuesnelleFiona DourifJordan GavarisAfter her mother's mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that Chucky may be the key to recent bloodshed and chaos. The Chuck made it back and kicked some ass. Very good sequel. Totally made the good guy doll creepy again. I watched this one with my kids. Big fans of the original.
- DirectorHenry HobsonStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerAbigail BreslinJoely RichardsonA teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.Great but untraditional zombie movie. Bleak AF! Arnold and Abi gave two solid performances. This is the other side of the zombie infected coin. Generally we just get to see the zombie horde run down with giving a crap but here the movie captures that time just before the turn, where one of your most beloved dies and reanimates into a shambling atrocity where the only thing on it's decaying mind is to feast on your flesh. Also watched this one with my girls. Yes, there were tears.
- DirectorWilliam GirdlerStarsChristopher GeorgeAndrew PrineRichard JaeckelAn eighteen-foot-tall grizzly bear terrorizes a state park, leaving Ranger Mike Kelly, photographer Allison Corwin, naturist Arthur Scott, and chopper pilot Don Stober to track down the beast. Meanwhile, the body count rises.Hasn't aged all that well. The Neal Adams poster is timeless though.
- DirectorMark A. LewisStarsVal KilmerMartha MacIsaacAaron AshmoreA research expedition to the Arctic discovers that a melting polar ice cap has released a deadly prehistoric parasite.Great gross out scenes. Cool seeing Kilmer again.
- DirectorJeff BaenaStarsAubrey PlazaDane DeHaanJohn C. ReillyA young man's recently deceased girlfriend mysteriously returns from the dead, but he slowly realizes she is not the way he remembered her.Another slightly unbalanced RomZomCom. Aubrey Plaza does a great job though in her role as the girl who didn't stay dead. Worth checking out.
- DirectorJustin BensonAaron MoorheadStarsLou Taylor PucciNadia HilkerFrancesco CarneluttiA young man in a personal tailspin flees from US to Italy, where he sparks up a romance with a woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.Great flick, great actors and one great concept. The romance angle was believable. Didn't hurt any that it took place in such a beautiful location.
- DirectorStuart GordonStarsLance HenriksenStephen LeeWilliam NorrisHorror film set in 1492 Toledo, Spain, depicting the cruel deeds of a monk named Torquemada, Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition.Been a long time since I caught this classic on VHS after renting it from the Video Nook, and it still kicks ass. It has all you are looking for in an old school horror movie based on one of Poe's best short stories. Of course they were a bit loose with the adaptation but it's all good. Gruesome torture scenes, some unintentional humor, Lance Henriksen having a blast as the Nutty Inquisitor, a hot chic lead and hungry rats o'plenty.
- DirectorLamberto BavaStarsUrbano BarberiniNatasha HoveyKarl ZinnyA group of random people are invited to a screening of a mysterious movie, only to find themselves trapped in the theater with ravenous demons.Still kicks ass. After rewatching this month I see what REC, another flick that also teases end of the world catastrophy through demon possessed zombies, could have been outside the apartment building but never delivered. Apparently Demons never followed through either because after watching Demons 2 they go back to square one. Anyways, great movie, great demon transformations, god awful acting in most cases but it works. It will always be a favorite, thanks to an old buddy of mine, I.C., who introduced me to this gem.
- DirectorKieran ParkerStarsBryan LarkinIván KamarásVelibor TopicIn this third installment of the hit Nazi Zombie action horror movie, Outpost: Rise Of The Spetnaz, we discover the horrifying origins of these supernatural soldiers and see them in ferocious gladiatorial battle against the most ruthless and notorious of all military special forces: the Russian Spetsnaz.Holy crap, way better than I expected. The prequel route totally worked for this story, introducing all the shenanigans the crazy nazi scientists were up to in the zombie lab. Action was great. Good times. Also, I think Spetsnaz is one the coolest words ever created.
