My Balkan War Movies on DVD.
This list comprises the movies I have that portray the wars in the former Yugoslavia. All these are on DVD.
.....so why do I have these, and why a list?
I am a serving member of a western military. I have completed six deployments as a service member plus another as a civilian. It was this as a civilian aid worker in southern Croatia during the war that is the reason for why I have these films.
I have been back, to a rebuilt and rejuvenated Croatia. I have driven through Bosnia, some areas full of life and a bright future and others struggling to recover from the horrors of war. I have been to Belgrade, a lovely city still with an unjustified stigma.
As mentioned above, I have served in East Timor during its dark days of liberation. I have served in Afghanistan and seen the indiscriminate nature of a horrible war. I have served in countries overrun by street gangs. None of these come close to what happened in the former Yugoslavia.
I am not religious but what happened there was just evil. Something evil swept through that land. Whatever God hears your prayers must have been looking elsewhere. If God ever did have a country, I believe he would have lived in Croatia and gone to Bosnia for his holidays.
25 odd years on, it is such a wonderful land and they have found something we in a western society crave. They have found peace and serenity. It is so apparent you can hear it.
