- DirectorHarvey HartStarsCliff RobertsonErnest BorgnineHenry SilvaTwo groups of armed men eye each other across a body of water. An deadly incident ensues and the first group returns to their town in fear of the consequences, which never come. They realize that far greater danger is offing. Two groups of bored hunters meet and end up shooting each other. One group figures it isn't over, and they prepare for another encounter, armed with military equipment. This leads to a shocking ending, and some incredible final thoughts from one of the survivors.
- DirectorRobert ButlerStarsWilliam HoldenLee RemickJoe SantosBumper Morgan is a veteran Los Angeles Police Department street cop. He is due to retire after twenty years on the job, but is not letting up on the criminal element on his beat.I saw this made-for-television movie starring William Holden when it was first broadcast. Later, they edited it for time, making it into a shorter version that ruined it. Then there is a television series starring George Kennedy that is second-rate. The original, uncut version remains unavailable.
- DirectorRon WinstonStarsRobert WagnerAnjanette ComerJill St. JohnA hustling golf pro takes a golf instructor job at an exclusive country club where the owner and his son in law are fleecing the wealthy guests by using various schemes. This movie is to golf what "The Hustler" is to pool, except that it is not nearly as good. Still, the movie was good enough that I enjoyed it and would like to see it again.
- DirectorRobert ClouseStarsRod TaylorTheodore BikelSuzy KendallProfessional beach bum and 'knight errant' Travis McGee goes up against psychotic body-builder Terry Bartell. McGee pulls out all the stops when he joins a Caribbean cruise to bring the killer to justice.Movies made in the 1970s are often hard to see in their original theatrical form. Because movies were starting to show more sex and violence, they had to be edited for television. Sometimes they were edited to fit a time slot. And then the edited version ended up being the only one to survive. This movie is a good example of that. There is a cut version available on video tape, but it is not worth watching.
- DirectorSerdar AkarStarsNecati SasmazBilly ZaneGhassan MassoudThe film covers through fiction real-life events like the occupation of Iraq, the execution of Daniel Pearl, the Hood event and the Abu Ghraib torture scandal. There was a lot of fuss made over this movie when it first came out, because it was un-American. As a result, it is never shown on cable, nor is it available for rent as a DVD. I could buy the DVD, but the movie might not be any good, so I'll just keep hoping I can see it some day on the cheap.
- DirectorMike HodgesStarsElizabeth MontgomeryRon KarabatsosJohn ReillyA private detective has to deal with an unpleasant memory, a near-insoluble mystery, and a pursuing murderer inflicted with drugs and political corruption. The detective narrated throughout in this novel-based story by Karl Alexander.I enjoyed this movie about a female private eye who investigates the murder of her husband, and I would like to see it again, but it has probably gone to movie heaven.
- DirectorSidney GilliatStarsDouglas Fairbanks Jr.Glynis JohnsJack HawkinsIn post-WW2 Europe, when the dictator of a small police state dies during surgery, the operating surgeon, who's a visiting American doctor, is held captive in order to preserve the terrible state secret.I know of this movie only from what I have read. It sounds as though it might be good with a clever twist ending. Thirty years of patiently waiting to see it has not paid off, but who knows what the next thirty years might bring.
